The color of your hair does NOT define you

Let just be honest, more than a few of you would see white hair and think age, yet more and more people are going grey ( or white ) younger than ever.

It makes no sense that the color of your hair dictates anything in your life, it’s as crazy as saying you need to dress “age appropriate” it’s stupid!

Iris Apfel just turned 100 and looks cooler than most people half her age!

Going white is a choice, if you are ok with it, do it! If you aren’t ready for it color it! It’s really that simple. Do not be ashamed of it, it’s you and you have so much more to you than the color of your hair!

If you need a little proof here it is!

Stop Colouring your Hair

If you want to hide something, put it in plain sight and no one will see it!

So you have spent the better half of this year trying to figure out how to color your hair at home or how to hide it but why?

Check out what white hair looks like

Why are you trying to hide or cover it up? Chances are it’s your perception that it makes you look old rather than reality. As we get older our skin tone changes so too our hair so rather than cover it up and try to match it up to the color you were at 21 why not try to enhance it and make the best out of it?

It’s not like there isn’t options, in fact the grow out is hard initially but it can be helped in various ways to be able to get you through it. Or you can simply go cold turkey and let it be.

What Ash blonde actually looks like and how to get it

It’s a fairly common request ” I want to be ash blonde” typically like it’s ordering a pizza with little understanding what’s involved or if it’s even possible. After all that’s our job so we are cool with it, but want to shed some light on the facts about it.

Now without getting overly technical the above photo is not on dark hair, the base color is lighter and has a slightly warmer tone, the highlights however are ash so the two combined give you what you are seeing not the individual “ash” color.

The darker you are the more gold/red pigment your hair has & will throw off when it’s lightened.

To get “ash” your hair must be lightened ( it doesn’t come out of a tube, it’s a process and not typically a short one either ) and to keep the hair in one piece would require 2-3 applications then toning. Sadly I have seen foils being done and irons or a hairdryer put over the foils to speed it up ( your hair will be fried, cuticle will snap off and I can guarantee it’s gold as your reading this. Bleaching hair you should not add heat, you can’t speed up the process! There is no short cuts only bad decisions and poorly educated people doing it or endorsing the wrong people.

So can it be ash on dark hair?

Yes but check out the photo above, you can see super light sections and some slightly gold right, that’s because it’s done over several sittings to get the hair light and keep it on your head.

Now whilst you think you may want ash, chances are even after you get it ( if it’s possible ) you will have upkeep you will need to do in order for it to stay the right tone!

Possible yes, easy no but possible and for those claiming you have ash, this is what ash actually looks like!

So if you have had a bad color, give us a call let’s see what we can do to get your hair instagram ready!

If your parents are white, chances are you will go white too

There are some who think they have the secret potion or recipe for not getting white hair, well folks if you know it I’m sure its worth more than knowing what the 12 secret herbs and spices are. If your parents went white young, good chance you too will go white young. Its not a fool proof, your going to be white at the same time but more of an indication its fairly probably. Your DNA which is a mixture of both parents will now play their role in you and determine what happens.

How to go white!

If you have been coloring your hair for as long as you can remember and totally over it, why not grow it out? How will you do it and how on earth is it going to look while your making the transition?

The reality it’s not as easy as you think, the regrowth will bug you sooner than normal because once you decide to go natural you want it now not in one or two months.

We spoke a few weeks back about creating a plan ( Read this to get the how too ). Nothing good is easy and imagine not having to visit the salon every 10-15 days to cover up those white hairs!

Now I’m sure some people may be thinking what’s wrong with these people, aren’t they in business to color hair! We sure are, but we are in the business of making people feel good too and with totally white hair the reality we can have more fun with the color than you ever imagined but the difference is, it’s not going to lock you in every few weeks.
