Let’s be honest, changing our mindset or the way we feel in the current situation is what we are all seeking right now. An escape, a change of scenery, an uplift in our mood and to feel good about ourselves. Can a simple haircut bring you that?
Well it can and by feeling fresh or having a new look it will most definitely give you a dose of oxytocin ( the Happy Hormone ) that could lift you up out of feeling blue.
Micro Bangs most definitely change the way you see yourself as well as others instantly as well as minimising the grow out time and length!
Let just be honest, more than a few of you would see white hair and think age, yet more and more people are going grey ( or white ) younger than ever.
It makes no sense that the color of your hair dictates anything in your life, it’s as crazy as saying you need to dress “age appropriate” it’s stupid!
Going white is a choice, if you are ok with it, do it! If you aren’t ready for it color it! It’s really that simple. Do not be ashamed of it, it’s you and you have so much more to you than the color of your hair!
It’s not that new in fact it’s been around for years and has made a dramatic increase in the last 2-3 years. Now with everyone wanting a longer lasting color that doesn’t break the bank every month, this technique is it! It’s free hand painting on mid lengths to ends to avoid a grow out mark and ease of getting it done again for months. It’s maintenance friendly and can last up to 12-14 months depending on color and length.
It is adaptable to almost everyone and the only limitation is your imagination plus your base color! Yes your current base color matters. You can not be coloring your hair black or dark brown and expect by doing this you will be blonde in 1,2,3 or even 4 sittings. However it can be the ideal transitional color to break it up.
Can be bold, can be subtle depending on what you are after. The choice is yours.
Now how do you pronounce it? It’s a French word so it’s ok if you get it wrong. Balayagè pronounced “Belli-aj” it’s not a color, it’s a technique. Talk to your hairstylist and discuss if this technique is for you!
Everything in life revolves around having clear communication, doesn’t matter if we are talking about business, relationships or getting your hair done. If communication is clear then you are setting yourself up for success. One of the biggest problems we have seen is lack of communication and both parties being on the same page.
Hair is completely different for every single person, texture, density and movement along with your current filters of what long, short, natural, big, small is it all depends on you. Along with the fact that everyone has a different version of life, one word can mean so many things.
Having an in-depth consultation prior to making big decisions can be the difference between ok and super happy with your hair! Thank
For some, the thought of Instagram being complete reality and for some people everything in life is easy is typically far from reality!
So with constant influx of our time being on line we tend to end up believing what we see and that’s our reality when in fact it’s not. Perspective from a different angle life can look completely different. Not better or worse, just different.
Now when it comes to hair it is a jungle of filters and effects to help make the Color un achievable so all the followers aspire to have hair the same and not be able to achieve it. Almost like they are the only ones who can get it. When in reality it’s simply a filter.
So it’s important to remember to put things into perspective and have realistic expectations of yourself and your life. Don’t believe everything you see!
Who decided that if you were a certain sex your hair had to be this or that, stupid and it’s changed! thank goodness
It’s time you did what you wanted, short hair, long hair, pink hair, green hair it’s your hair so why not do what you want. Now short hair on woman screams confidence, sexy and super low Maintainence which sounds like 2021 hair if you ask us!
A dramatic increase is drastic haircuts so far this year and it’s far from over! So if it’s something that’s been in the back of your mind why not just do it!
To have healthy hair you need to do a few things and none of which you can swap or change. It’s not a bargaining thing it’s facts, you can not have a good diet and only sleep 3-4 hours a day and expect to be full of energy. Just like you can not skip gym 6 days a week and have a killer body, sadly it just doesn’t work like that. Healthy hair is a combination of what you do internally and how you treat your hair once it’s outside your body.
Hair once visible is not living matter so it’s incredibly susceptible to damage and must be treated with respect in order for it to be in best possible condition.
We all want what we want, some want every chemical treatment available and yet wonder why it’s not silky smooth and healthy, well sometimes you can’t have your cake and eat it too. Healthy hair starts with you and your diet, a balanced diet that ensures your body is getting all the nutrients and fuel to be able to function and grow the best hair.
Can you increase hair growth? Reality is no, sure some will say you can because we all want to hear it but truth is you can not. Hair grows marginally faster in summer vs winter that is a fact.
If I’m growing it why should I trim it every 6 weeks?
May be obvious but in case you slept through that class, hair is dead, if you don’t remove the ends every 6-8 weeks then you will get split ends which will travel up your hair shaft and break off. Hence your hair will appear like it’s not growing or at times getting shorter. If it grows on average 1.5 inches per month you can trim 1/2 inch every 6 weeks it’s still getting longer right?!
Can I rub fruit, oil or anything on it to make it grow faster?
Um no, if you have any idea how skin works, it’s not soil and your not growing tomatoes 🍅 compost on your scalp will only give you a bacteria infection and do absolutely nothing to your hair growth!
Can vitamin supplements help?
In some respect yes, if for whatever reason you can not cover the five food groups then you can add a Su plumber to assist however again this is a last resort and not going to grow your hair faster or thicker.
The best advice is everything in moderation, make sure you have a hairstylist that will say no to you in the interest of healthy hair, don’t do something for the sake of it and always use good products.
So best thing to do is start with a good well balanced diet, good healthy lifestyle and a good night sleep!
Nothing screams “home alone” more than a cropped fringe that’s let’s just say a tad uneven or lop sided. But the feeling of doing something new and different is obviously a rush especially right now! Will it suit you, will you regret it, will it be hard to manage? So many questions but if you put it into perspective, it’s hair and it grows back!
The last 18 months life has changed and we have all taken a long hard look at who we are, what we do and who we want to be. We have seen a dramatic increase in people growing colors out, grey hair is now cool!
Actually it always was but a lot of us had a very warped impression we should all look the same no matter what our age was or no matter what your natural color was. The upkeep on coloring white hair dark is out of control, seeing some people doing it every week so no one would notice that in fact you are 90% white.
Imagine not being able to go away for 2 weeks anywhere in the world without worrying about where you would get your color touched up!? The dark color would make the light natural color look terribly obvious and constantly checking the mirror to see if it’s obvious or not.
Time has come for a more low Maintainence hair color that gives you freedom! Sure it isn’t easy to get you over the hump of looking like a neglected human but once you do it’s worth the pain!
Now before you start getting defensive and tell us all the wonderful stories your mum told you just relax. This is about facts, we don’t know your mum and am sure she is wonderful. BUT
Hair once outside your scalp is dead, the living part of hair is beneath your skin, it grows here under several layers of tissue and the base. Within the follicle stem cells divide rapidly, as new cells are formed the old ones are pushed up and form the hair shaft, the part that you eventually see. As hairs become part of the shaft, they undergo a process called keratinization, in which they become filled with keratin. So, technically, instead of being made up of pure keratin, hair is made up of dead cells that are filled with and surrounded by keratin.
So putting anything on your scalp to encourage growth is almost pointless because the work is done internally so it all comes back to your DNA and Diet. Sure a massage on your scalp may increase the blood flow to your root marginally but not enough to make a difference.
So if your onion pulp or egg won’t penetrate the skin, how is it meant to feed the root of the hair, the only part that is living? How is oil going to do anything?
Maintaining healthy hair outside the skin, it’s important to understand the following. Hair is dead and we have to keep it in the best condition as long as we can. Regular trims to remove damage from chemicals or environment, regular cleansing and not coating the hair strand unnecessarily, like oils or silicone.
Excess oil on the scalp will create a PH issue for the tissue we call scalp therefore could encourage hair fall. Oil on the hair strand doesn’t do anything other than coat the strand and can in fact dehydrate the hair by increasing the temperature of the strand.
Healthy hair is about diet, lifestyle and your DNA. Eat a balanced diet, avoid stress ( as much as humanly possible ) don’t over style your hair and get regular trims every 6-8 weeks.
Often we have a plan for things with little or no idea what will happen when you get to the end. Could be “I will travel the world when I retire” or “Once I get fit, I will be happy” and rarely anything changes once you reach that point because the end goal is constantly moving. It’s a goal with no end date or resolution. It’s annoying yes we know!
If you are like thousands of others you will be growing your hair, but what for? For your wedding? To make others happy? To put it into a pony tail? For what?
We see a lot of people growing their hair so they can put it into a pony tail which to the untrained eye is the same as shaving it off, but yet you won’t go short because you feel long hair suits you?!
The reality is, it’s more about how it makes you feel than they actual way it looks! What are you doing with your hair? Are you growing it on purpose or just because that’s what you think you should be doing?
Sunday is Off Day, it’s a day to reflect, a day to spend quality time with the people you care about and a day to catch up. Well that’s typically been the theory. Work like crazy and in 12 hours once a week “catch up”!
More and more people are coming to terms with that fact life has to be more about doing what you love, being with the people you want to be with than it is about making it through the week!
As the world goes in and out of lockdown I guess we are all reflecting on life, what we are doing that we love and what we are doing that we really don’t love. If you could do whatever you wanted, what would it be? Where would you be right now?
For some the answer is, exactly where you are and that’s great but for many it’s completely different. Everything from the clothes your wearing to the job your slaving too should be by choice. The hairstyle you have to how you style it or don’t style it!
Sunday hair is a look all by itself! Here is some Inspiration.
If your hair isn’t working then it’s time to get it looked at. It should maintain its shape well but the structure of a haircut will only last 6-8 weeks then it simply won’t work as well. Enjoy your Off Day
If you are wondering what we are talking about, chances you are not on TikTok or have been isolated a little too long. The Wolf haircut is essentially a shag, with a more wispy edge to it. Can be worn long or short and bangs or no bangs, low Maintainence and when cut correctly requires little to no styling!
Let’s be honest, we all now want little effort easy hair that’s cool but seriously don’t want to put the effort in and that’s ok. Products to use for this look would be either a texturising mousse or a styling dust on dry hair to give the desired texture!
Here are some Wolf cuts to get you thinking about your next haircut
So if your done with blowouts and desperately want change this could be your next look!
Don’t know what you all need but 2021 has certainly turned belly up early, nothing much happening and getting excited is all about what to eat and thats about it. Well maybe just like the many others doing it there is a way to get excited! Get yourself a fresh haircut!
Firstly let’s start with the fact that this is a major trigger for any professional hairstylist. Color that’s in a box has a number yet majority of the time is rarely that simple in a salon.
Remember the last time you went out snd had the most delicious pasta? It literally was the best thing you had eaten in a long time, wait see the photo and we know your hungry now!
You decided to ask the chef who had spent 12 years travelling throughout Italy to learn the regional cooking, he put himself through culinary school snd worked part time till 3am 4 nights a week to pay rent, food and expenses. You decide to ask him to sketch down then recipe because honestly you love it but the restaurant is too far to come frequently. Imagine after years and years training to just hand it out? Would it be the same even if he did? Unlikely but who know. Your version of boil, your version of lightly pan fry and his are almost certainly not going to be close!
Even if he did hand write it out, chances are your interpretation and his are completely different and the result wouldn’t resemble what you ate. I hope this makes sense.
Let’s look at it a different way, your salon stylist says he using a base 5. He has told you that after a heated discussion with him that you want 5 but also want it light. He told you he uses a 5 but in fact used 1/2-5 1/2-6. He uses one brand and you go to another salon that uses another brand, you think every competitor hair color company has the same system, result or numbering? No they don’t not even close.
A 5 in one brand may be a 6 in another and as far as the differences this is just the beginning. You can’t start coloring your hair at 30 and still be using the same color for the next 15-20 years it just doesn’t work like that. Every-time small changes need to happen as the hair changes constantly. Hairdressing is about an ongoing learning and just like the Chef requires years of training, education and investment from ourselves to make us better constantly.
We attend training most often than not self funded in our own time, our scissors are typically work several weeks salary which we buy ourselves. Then when mixing colors we consider ourselves artists and often use 3 or up to 5 different colors to create your “number 5” so forgive us if we don’t tell you because we know that with our years of education, the practical experience it sadly doesn’t come down to a “number 5”
A box color might cover your grey sure, it may also be next to impossible to lighten on your next visit and end up taking months or years to bring it back to what you love so no, we won’t play that game.
It’s not because we don’t want to loose the business, it’s because we know that it won’t work out how you expect so it’s better for you to make the decision not us. A solid, professionally trained hairstylist can match up a color fairly easy after a proper consultation taking into consideration fading etc.
So before you ask us, hey what number did you use on me last time remember we don’t use box color, that’s from the chemist.
Important note, your version of light brown is completely different to ours, your version of ash is most certainly different to ours. It’s important to note that a recipe is only as good as the understanding of the person reading it.
Skunk hair is all about contrasting block Colors compared to “two tone” which was all about clubbing together similar Colors with various tones. Skunk hair Color is all about being bold and contrasting. There are no rules and no limits to what you do other than what your hair will allow.
It was big in early 00’s on several celebrities and it’s fairly easy to do rather than a complete overhaul of the entire head of hair, this gives you the chance to completely change your look and yet still be able to hide it if needed.
Well I guess you can see the options now are only limited to your mind.
Either way we love the versatility, we all need a change after the last 18 months we have all had so why not!
We all have that one shirt we love, it’s worn out and honestly you most likely shouldn’t be seen in public wearing it but it is just so day comfortable.
Doesn’t matter if it’s clothes or your hair, if it feels right it just does. After all aren’t clothes and hair about making you feel a certain way?
Getting that perfect haircut or color that Suits your Faceshape is rarely about luck, it’s about having an understanding about what your face shape needs and what your hair texture is capable of doing. Once those two elements are considered the framework to getting something that works for you is a lot easier.
Well it’s our second big lockdown and although this one was incredible hard for us and so many people we feel incredibly blessed to be able to come out of it. It’s been one of the hardest few months emotionally and physically.
We could reflect on what it’s done to us and how it has changed us all and life will never been the same. Instead we are over the moon to announce we will be opening this week!
VERY LIMITED SPACES
This isn’t a sales tactic, this is reality, our salon has limited seating and we will be only having one person in at a time for the Month of June. This means that only by prior appointment and must come by yourself, on time, mask is essential for the entire duration of the service, no food in salon & no coffee or tea in salon.
What we will have is Fresh cuts, awesome blowouts and all the color you have missed out on!
So before you start calling the salon READ THIS and send us an email. It’s very simply an incentive for you to get in early and we will call you will options of times and days once we know which day we are opening.
We can’t wait to see friendly faces and help you feel good about yourself again!
Please note, extra time & charges maybe needed for color which has a larger regrowth. We share costing quote only post consultation.
We are guessing by now you like majority of people on the planet have nailed beach waves and you have seen more variations than we have eaten Banana cake! ENOUGH ALREADY!
Let’s be honest the look is dreamy and unpretentious, it does scream a very real 2020/21 look still but honestly little tired of it. Sure Banana cake is nice but not every single day of my life!
Ok so what then, how can you change your hair without cutting it short we hear you ask! Well the next step for hair like this would be to introduce bangs or bring the length up. Bangs are the safest bet for anyone not sure if you want to take the plunge of reducing the length or not.
Both look good honestly, we love both but longer bangs just give you another option to play with.
So next time you are thinking of going the the salon have some hair references put aside so we can talk about it next time we see you.
With 85% chance of having some degree of baldness by the time you are 50 why do most men freak out about it?
Don’t know if it is more of a image guys have or guys or in fact there is some element of truth to it making you less manly. Who knows however I guess if it does then these guys must be the expectation?!
It’s certainly not hard to think of an action hero that is bald, typically they all are so I guess it doesn’t make you less manly. Does it make you look older?
Ok so maybe girls find bald men less attractive?
It appears like men that have shaved heads live a normal life, it appears like they don’t loose anything, it also appears they still manage to being attractive to the opposite sex. It also in fact seems like they are badass!
So before you think of holding onto every single stand and risk looking insecure why not think about shaving it off
Ok not going to joke about this subject but rather put things into perspective. Obviously if colouring your hair at home makes you feel better, we say do it and we will deal with it later honestly. Happiness is everything so if it brings you a smile even if it’s only for 5 minutes, it’s done it’s job!
However understand that whatever color you do now will be in your hair for longer than the lockdown is on. Getting the base wrong can take months to rectify let alone the cost to do it. It’s all about perspective honestly.
For example choosing which color to do based on a set of numbers or the exotic name of the color rarely is realistic or a perfect match ( saucy beige or Summer blonde are completely subjective )
You do you, do whatever you have to do to get you through this moment in time. We will deal with it later, the main concern now is keeping your sanity. Stay safe and stay positive
We have heard it all when it comes to strange requests for an appointment and honestly some of them as crazy and extreme as they sound, don’t really surprise us. The fear and anxiety is real and we always say whatever it is that makes your feel comfortable isn’t crazy. Since early last year we took a very conservative approach to our work environment, the amount of people at any given point and the flow of people in and out of the salon.
For a large portion of the world that haven’t experienced the sheer devastation of COVID some of our *conditions of entry were considered extreme. Although not once did we apologise, we want everyone to be safe including ourselves.
Now 15 months later, on our second lockdown once we know when we can open we have a clear model that works for everyone keeping all clients and staff safe. It’s limited seating, limited appointments, no mask no entry for everyone, no walk in’s, door locked, early morning starts for anyone wanting to be the only person in the salon and extreme hygiene. So if you are searching for a place to get your hair done once we are reopen then save this post, shoot us an email or give us a call once we are open.
If you have any concerns, questions or requests please don’t hesitate to contact us, if you don’t ask the answer is always No!
We have all been there, you’ve seen a really sexy dress and it had to be purchased but moments later you realised you don’t have the right shoes for it! Or you get the perfect shoes with the perfect heal in the perfect color but realise no clothes in your wardrobe will work.
You set out to get your quick fix of retail therapy and it turns out to be more like a landslide you can’t stop.
There is little you can buy that brings you instant joy and can make you feel happy instantly without having to then purchase other things to make sure you can wear the one thing you wanted to buy! It’s a rare race and my head hurts thinking about it to be honest.
Hold on yes there is! It’s a fresh haircut or color that doesn’t need anything else to look good. Can be worn with whatever you have on now and look as fabulous. No extra shoes, no new dress needed nothing at all it’s just your hair then it’s ready to be taken out no matter what you are wearing.
So if you are like 99% of people and live to shop but have limitations then maybe once things reopen you should consider an investment in your hair.
Last year was bad but in all honesty this year has been a nightmare for most, almost everyone has someone that has been affected. While we all could not have dreamt of the struggle that was coming or the challenges we would face just to survive. It’s been a lot for everyone, the stress, the trauma that was thrown upon us with such force no matter who you are it has changed us all.
Stress triggers the release of adrenaline and cortisol, making your heart beat faster and blood pressure to rise, affecting the nervous system and causing acute stress.
This process then speeds up the depletion of stem cells that produced melanin in hair follicles.
If you become less stress will it go back? Sadly no. We have to deal with the cards we are dealt, once the hair is grey ( or white ) it doesn’t go back to the previous Color, it just won’t. Should you be stressed about the fact you made it and yet have a few extra white hairs? Absolutely not! Hair can be coloured and you can do a lot of things to enhance the overall look.
The thing is, you’ve been through a lot, a few extra grey hairs should be the last thing you are stressed about.
Well another lockdown is upon us and as in tonight we will close for a week to hopefully slow the spread. It’s a good reminder to anyone who was acting like it wasn’t real that it is very much a matter of life and death! It’s the only thing we can do!
Read a book, sleep, exercise and be positive it’s not going to be forever and it’s a tiny thing we can all do to help overcome this! Reach out to friends and colleagues and make sure they are ok. Talk to your staff and help them if you can, small things to you can be huge to others. It’s the time to come together. Stay safe and be kind.
Often we do decide to do things not by what we want but what society says is ok or what other deem to think is normal. Often still we hear woman choosing to grow hair because others think they should have long hair rather than doing what they actually want to do. We have even heard that after making the decision to go short people question the health of the person who has gone short, “ Are you ok? What happened?” It’s crazy we know! One of the most attractive qualities someone can have is confidence and going against the norm and choosing to have hair you want is incredibly liberating and confident!
We are not saying you have to go short to be attractive or confident we are simply saying the only person who should decide is you! Short hair can be incredibly liberating and fun! You get to change your complete look literally there and then and if you decide too, it grows back!
Your version of short May be shoulder length and others it may be buzzed off!
We often change the style of clothes we wear so it only makes sense that the length, color and shape of our hair changes too! Could be bangs or a complete change but why not have some change, it can lift your mood and make you feel good about yourself! Don’t you deserve that?
Depending on who you ask, you will get various answers on haircare and what it takes to have healthy hair. Possibly the best advice will come from a qualified hairstylist even though your mother tends to know most things maybe she can sit this one out.
Healthy hair doesn’t happen by chance, it typically is months or years of good hair habbits rather than how expensive your shampoo is. Often the moment you realise you have a problem it’s too late to fix it immediately but don’t panic it’s never to late to get you back on track.
Healthy hair habbits
Regular trims are the most important thing when wanting healthy hair. Because your hair is actually dead keratin removing the ends every 6-8 weeks is needed to ensure the most stressed portion is removed and doesn’t create a split end.
Don’t over style, excessive heat will cause the hair to be dehydrated. Sure you can use serums and leave in conditioners to help protect your hair but too much is too much.
Coloring your hair is fine if it’s done in a conscious way keeping condition in mind. Going over previously coloured hair should be kept to a minimum as this will cause damage.
Your daily routine can be the cause of a lot of damage. Brushing your hair too much aggressively will cause split ends, static and lead to damage.
Now oiling your hair has been told to nourish the hair but in fact just coats the strand, leaving it with a oil film covering the hair, increasing the heat of the strand, sucking out essential moisture. It will add shine but long term leave your hair feeling dry and brittle.
If there was ever a moment in time that getting a haircut that was zero maintenance it’s most definitely now!with work from home being the normal it’s a stretch to think of spending time doing your hair when most likely you aren’t even showing your face on zoom calls anyway.
Creating the right texture in the cut to utilise your natural flow of the hair can literally change the way the hair sits! Now sure it’s not like you can make straight hair curly but it’s about making the best of what you have. It may be a certain shape and length would work better snd encourage the hair to behave better. It may mean creating texture by adding less weight or more in certain areas.
Handy hint or word of advice would be stop touching your hair so much, typically when you try too much you end up creating frizz or the wrong movement and the structure goes for a toss! Use the right products and apply them gently rather than brushing or combing your hair too much.
It starts with getting the right haircut which will be the foundation to getting a wash and go look!
In the last 12 months we have all changed and whilst we can never go back to the way things were, we have to adjust and evolve. However we have to look after ourselves and the way we feel more now than ever. If you feel good, you have extra energy and a better attitude!
So while things used to be very different we have to find ways to make the current situation work in our favour and to be the best version of you possible. It could mean buying yourself a new top or simply blow drying your hair, whatever works for you.
If you feel like it’s time to get yourself out of the funky mood that has clouded over you for the last 12 months maybe a fresh haircut would do the trick!
While it seems like everyone is scraping their hair to show build up its not so obvious that while a lot of it could be build up from product, pollution, oiling it could also be damaged cuticles that you are scraping off!
If you feel your hair is dull and lifeless it could be the products you are using and the things you are doing that are in fact causing it. Oiling your hair whilst it gives you shine by coating the hair can over time cause more damage by creating a film that dehydrates the hair structure and prevents anything from helping. It will look shinny but feel rough to touch.
Try re assessing your hair care regime using a sulfate free ( SLS) shampoo and always using a conditioner. Avoid over heating your hair and use heat protecting products when possible. During summer if you are outside in the sun wear a hat or scarf to avoid direct sun!
The color can play a big part in how it looks and the relationship with shine also. It may need variation added to your color to create depth.
If you feel like it just lacks shine there is a gloss color that adds shine to your hair without any damage! Ask us how!
It’s true that men’s hair doesn’t drastically shift from year to year or season to season. We had the “grow it long at the top” moment that lasted longer than most people’s foreheads doing the elevated quiff and thank god it’s now reduced to a few rather than everyone.
Now given that most of us are still wearing masks it makes sense that the sides are kept short otherwise it can get annoying. Short fades are still in and super easy but we are seeing less length on the top so styles have moved into super low Maintainence.
So given that 2021 is more about your happiness and making your life easier. Do whatever makes you happy!
The Akhal Teke breed of horse has shine built into the genetic makeup but you don’t. Continual color, blowdry and abuse and you wonder why you are not shinning!?
Don’t worry there is help here!
Our signature shine gloss color is back and we are ready to get you to shine bright! It’s a clear gloss that doesn’t act like a normal color, it is temporary so it will wash out but more importantly won’t further damage your hair. It protects from the sun, holds moisture in and helps reflect light!
Takes about 40 min to do and is waiting for you to shine! Give us a call or drop us a DM
Summer is here and by the looks of things it’s going to be hot!
It’s always a mad dash to get air conditioners serviced, get your hair in order and mentally prepare for months of endless air conditioners. Your hair needs to be ready for what it is about to be put through!
Some quick things to get on top of now!
Get a trim, you have been putting it off now is the time to do it. Removing split or damaged ends now before they get a chance to travel up the hair shaft.
Reassess your routine, maybe you need to change things. Could be since it’s getting hotter you need to shampoo more often as the perspiration on your scalp will be more and you need to remove it or the conditioner isn’t strong enough. Adding a leave in conditioner is a good idea during summer also.
Can’t get that shine? Doing a gloss color adds shine and helps protect the hair from the sun! It’s harmless and ideal to do every 6-8 weeks and gives you maximum shine.
If you are thinking of color this could be a good time to change things up too, adding color at the start of summer is an ideal way to get the most out of your look.
Use a leave in serum, leave in moisturiser and sun protection as well as a cap or hat when possible!
First you see it on a celebrity, next a friend and you start to think maybe it would look good on you. A few weeks later random people on social media are wearing it now it’s spreading faster than bad news!
By now you know you must try it, but will it look the same on you? Will it look as good?
Everyone is different and while some trends are universal whike other depend on the individuality of the person.
With hair trends not everyone suits white platinum blonde hair nor everyone can achieve it. Hair texture condition and history is very different so it’s not always achievable nor desirable. Get a consultation before you decide that balayagè or a pastel color is right for you!
A lot of social media tends to make us think things are easy or perfect for some and why not everyone. A celebrity only posting holiday photos or a person one day brown hair next day pastel pink. Life is not as perfect as you think for 99.9% of people and nothing comes easy, some days are awesome and some days just suck. But that’s life and it’s beautiful.
To go pastel colors, can be done yes, is it easy and quick NO! Is it low Maintainence… NO! Will it damage your hair? Chances are yes!
Frequently we get asked to go platinum or ash blonde as if it’s available for anyone who asks and yet the reality is it’s not. If you have been coloring your hair dark then 2 weeks later decide ash blonde would look good for the weekend, it’s not going to happen! The darker your hair is the more warm pigment it has,the more warm pigment the more unlikely your hair will simply go white as easy as you expect. Can we do it, yes! Will it happen in one sitting No!
Now we don’t want to put you off visiting the salon but we are known for being brutally honest because we care more about your hair than anything. It may mean cutting some of your hair off, it may mean moving towards the desired color over a period of time or it may simply mean it’s not going to happen. Whatever the case we will go through the process and give you all the options.
Now to go pastel you have to get to a pale blonde first in majority of cases. Once you are a pale blonde then you are a blank canvas and pastel colors on your hair are easy and you can change your look literally every week if you feel like it.
Do we have the colors, YES! Will your hair be able to sustain itself for us to color it and keep it in one piece? That we need to see.
Colouring hair is as much about selection and current state of the canvas as it is about placement. The art of doing less for more impact is smart and essential if you want to have healthy hair. Shadow coloring is about placement of color to help other colors pop. Can be that you want to go lighter or it’s too gold so adding a darker ash element helps give the illusion that the existing color is lighter and not gold.
If you have an off white wall beside a white wall suddenly the off white wall looks very off white. Now put the off white wall beside a dark brown or black wall suddenly it looks completely white. It’s an illusion but it works every time! Same concept with hair, to get the blonde to look blonde
Balayagè started out as a merging of colors that blend rather than a overall lightening effect. You can vary the density of color however it you want low Maintainence then for darker tones naturally it’s best to limit the exposure.
Now shadowing color on the roots or smudging blends the root color ( your natural color ) through to give you a blended tone change from roots to ends and can be done to correct or blend a regrowth or to help grow out your color. If you want to grow out a solid color whilst still using the color on the mid lengths and ends this is a great way to do it!
So before getting balayagè check the variations as there are many but most of all make sure you know if you want solid or a more broken up result.
We have been overwhelmed with the amount of people who are tired of covering the grey or “ white” hair and honestly we love it! Imagine all the free time and extra money you will save! The thought of not having to plan your life around regrowth.
Once you have decided, now the hard part of actually managing and navigating your way out in a way that leaves you feeling human. It can be confusing and you will most likely get conflicting advice so expect it. There is no easy way that won’t leave you question your decision several times so it’s important you are strong. A lot of times, white hair or natural hair is more flattering than a blanket coverage!
It’s a long journey if you have length, especially if you have a darker color, the contrast can be huge and you will be tempted to fall but don’t!
Here are a few ways to help you through the transition
If you have just started it’s ok there are things you can do now to help the process. Depending on how dark you have been colouring it as to what needs to be done but for argument sake imagine it’s 80% white and you have been colouring it brown or dark brown.
Within a few weeks you will be hit with white roots so if you wanted to lighten the overall hair now is the time to do it. If you wait and try to do this later you will end up with not as clean of a canvas, better to lighten the ends or darker hair now slightly (1-2 shades not more )
Now the next step can be either simply leaving it grow out or transitioning with color. How it’s done with color is by continually coloring the regrowth, slightly lighter each time ( 1/4-1/2 shade ) and have it translucent rather than a solid coverage. Once you get used to seeing the white hair stained the next step of seeing it natural won’t be so stark!
Be warned that along the way someone will say get some lowlights. Now tgis may be a hood idea for you and that depends from person to person but if you are planning on growing it out, doing another process at the roots that you ultimately have to grow out too is counter productive.
Remember match the tone, white hair looks grey, it’s white! It gives an ash look so the color on the ends needs to be ash or it will have too much contrast with the roots.
Good luck and if you need help, feel free to reach out to us.
A lot has made us change habits and for some we were already doing some of the things we all know expect and love. Having to pick up the phone or wait until certain hours to interact with a business is something honestly not many want to do nor really have too any more. Not sure about you but I want to be able to do what I want almost 24 hours a day!
Now before you slide us a DM at 3am expecting a reply I can assure you, it’s most likely coming until the sun comes up. However chances are in daylight or the early hours of both night and day, you will in fact not only get a reply but in most cases be able to make bookings. Yes I know right, it’s crazy. Whilst we are still waiting back from a DM last October from a restaurant wanting to know if they do take away, I guess it’s easier to get a haircut than it is to order food online.
So if you have a burning question, a sudden need to book your color, or simply want to drop by and say hi then do use either Instagram or email and book your next appointment.
Firstly this is not a shaming post, it’s simply to help understand what layers are. Layered hair is when the top hair is shorter than the hair that is closest to the floor, it’s that simple. You can have long layers, short layers or uniform layers.
The longer the hair, the longer the layers need to be to maintain bulk on the ends and avoid it looking thin. If it’s too bulky on the ends then the layers can be slightly shorter or even sliced into. You can not count layers!
A common mistake is the thirst for fullness and love for length. Whilst while styling you can try to encourage both if the weight of the hair is heavy the length will no doubt weigh it down. Cutting the layers short when the hair is long will look odd and give it a look that there is two haircuts happening.
Seemless layering gives movement and helps build volume and the length of your hair and the density determines how short the layers can be for it to work!
A good rule of thumb is the shortest layers need to be 1/2-3/4 of the overall length. Need help? Let us know
It’s not been easy getting through the last 12 months and we have all been pushed outside our comfort zones in many ways. We have survived and have adapted unbelievably well with all things considered. Some better than others and it had nothing to do with stock piling food or a mountain holiday or a private plane. The only way to get through this is to have a positive attitude and be able to lift yourself up. If you can do that then nothing will stick to you.
You don’t need a tropical holiday ( although that wouldn’t be that bad ) you don’t need the latest release top or sneakers but you do need positive self talk. You are a unique soul and you will get through this, this is not going to be forever so relax and enjoy this moment in time. You are beautiful and you need to believe it!
When it comes to doing something to your hair, you need a solid line of communication with the person doing it in order to get it right!
You say short and to you that means mid shoulder but to some that means clippers off. Your blonde is someone else’s brown. Getting it right always should involve a discussion, reference images and only after everyone is on the same page should it continue. If there is doubt, things should not progress.
Consultations are free and happen before we do anything!
So before you jump into change and end up regretting it, talk first and make sure you choose the right salon & stylist to do your hair!
There has never been a better time for change than there is right now. Ending relationships that are going nowhere, moving towns, facing things that you have managed to put off your entire life.
Some interesting facts, hair grows and having something different, it won’t last forever but it will transport you to another head space and add a little fun into your life. Given that most sensible people stayed home and didn’t do much on New Years it may be just the trick. If you are thinking about change then give us a call, have a consultation with us and work out what it is you will do to make yourself feel good about your reflection. Maybe it’s tweaking, maybe it’s going natural and stopping coloring the grey hair or maybe it’s a completely different look.
Knowing where to get advice greatly changes the quality of the reply. Ask a friend about your aches and pains will result in a quick webmd search and a possibly random reply. Ask a doctor, the possible chances of getting the correct answer increases dramatically.
Let’s be honest there is a lot more pressing topics than what hair to wear so you seem cool. But that is exactly the reason that has fed the flames for a more 70’s look emerging. Long bangs, curtain bangs, faded out colors and grown out white hair!
With a lot of people option to either try box color and have it go horribly wrong or simply use this time to let it be! This year has pushed us to more easy low maintenance hair that we haven’t seen since the 70’s and it’s hot!
So if you are keen to get rid of the shackles of 2020 and start living more free with easy hair the time between Christmas and New Years is the best time to do it!
Come on, a tropical holiday is highly unlikely and possibly not safe this year anyway but you ended up with socks and now you are feeling a tinny bit unloved. The fact you are reading this means you have a lot to be thankful for but….
Don’t worry the entire planet feels your pain but there is hope, whilst we can’t gift you anything other than a fresh look, you will feel better! Why are you sitting around feeling sorry for yourself, give us a call we are open throughout the holiday season.
It seems like we need to lay a few rules down sadly to make sure we all are on the same page. Our main goal is to be a safe place for everyone, which includes us as well as you and everyone else we see!
Yes a lot of similar places let you take your mask off, drink coffee, order food and maybe not even wear one while you take a photo or maybe the salon you go too wants to take your photo without a mask for “ just a minute” well sorry that’s not us. We care more about your safety than getting an OOTD photo. We want to stay open, we want you and your family to be safe and we want ours to be safe also. So here goes!
No mask No Entry
Your temperature will be checked and you will need to sanitise your hands upon entry.
Bookings are limited so pls be on time, 5 min +|- is understandable but more than that will inconvenience the entire salon for the entire day. If you know the time you booked in for pls be on time.
We don’t make you wait, please don’t make us wait! If you are late most likely your appointment will be cancelled and you will need to reschedule and payment in advance may be required.
Mask has to stay on the entire time in the salon
No take away food
No water or coffee, tea is available in salon or to be consumed.
No showing us your face, if we need to we will ask for a face selfie from your phone.
You can wear your mask but if we are colouring pls wear one that is disposable or ask and we will provide one for you.
We hope you all understand that spending 2 hours getting your hair done with us means keeping your mask on and being in a safe space. We have maximum 2 people at any time all following the rules, let’s keep it that way! If you want to try any of the above you will be asked to leave immediately without ANY hesitation and not be invited back!
Looking forward to seeing you and if you feel like you would like the salon to yourself, we can block it out for you by prior arrangement just give us a call!
For bookings either call us Monday – Saturday 10-6pm or Dm us on social media.
We all want a change, it’s not been the easiest years so changing the way we look is possibly the only thing we can do so why not get your hair done, change the color or cut it off!
Balayagè is a great technique to give you variation that’s super low maintenance and doesn’t involve monthly visits to get touched up. now whilst it’s a super versatile technique it’s limitations are based on your hair & your expectations of the end result. The darker the hair the more limits you have in a general sense as to the tone you can easily achieve. The darker the hair the more red or gold pigment is in your hair. And creating an ash overtone on dark hair ( black or dark brown ) requires several applications, which can’t be done using this technique. Balayagè can be beautiful and natural whilst keeping the integrity of the hair in good condition. However it’s important to know and understand it has its limitations and so does your hair.
We suggest getting some reference images together with you and have an in-depth consultation with your hairstylist on how you can achieve it without destroying your hair!
Chances are you saved up for the color of your dreams and spent hours sitting in the salon and you have finally made it! Now how long will it last?
The farther away from your natural color you go the faster you will see the roots growing out. Often the following day from going platinum blonde you will see your dark roots already visible 24 hours later. With white hair ( grey ) that you are coloring you will see them the same way in 24 hours. Hair is continuously growing so the roots will appear no matter what you do.
The closer to your natural color you keep it in depth and tone the less Maintainence you will have.
Always discuss your ideal hair color with your hairstylist so there is no surprises.
With everyone’s anxiety levels higher than ever it’s no wonder we are all putting off living. Making the simplest decisions suddenly have become a decision based on safety. We get it! The last thing anyone wants to do is be in a crowded space indoors!
On the outset just to update everyone we have maximum 2 clients at any point and it’s by prior appointment ONLY. We are now blow drying but if you don’t feel comfortable we won’t just let us know in advance. Every surface is sanitised between every single client and everyone is wearing a mask for the duration of the visit as well as the entire team every minute of the day!
If you want to come in alone and be the only person in the salon, obviously the person cutting your hair, let us know as this is available by prior appointment also. Limited slots daily and can be done early in the day.
At the end of the day we know how you feel because we feel it too and no matter what requests you have to feel better we are happy to take them on board. The main purpose is delivering beautiful hair, making you feel good in the safest possible environment for all.
Simply call us on 01141010011 or Dm us on social media.
The biggest thing that has come out of lockdown in 2020 for hair is low maintenance hair that flows with little effort. Whilst a lot of this is controlled by the cut it can be one of the most liberating things to literally wash and air dry, even in winter!
Often called Curtain Bangs or Eastern European bangs by some it’s having the best of both worlds, having bangs but also having the length to be able to wear it up. It looks effortless and is low Maintainence if done right.
On curly hair is gives you options you never had before!
There is always a lot of talk about things you can do yourself at home to make sure your hair is healthy. It’s hard to know what to believe or not to believe.
When it comes to a cold rinse, it does help soothe the cuticle and reduce the swelling of the hair marginally. Warm water swells the hair and is obviously more comfortable to shower in than cold water. Even the thought of a cold rinse is making us get chills. Will it help with the frizz, well yes slightly.
It’s possibly not worth the risk of catching a cold during winter so you can skip it. What you may want to adapt and try is after your blowout on each section blasting it with cool air, this does the same thing but also sets the hair the way you want it. It’s hot or warm air that dries it and the cool air in fact sets it!
It’s an easy change to your look to color your hair but getting it right so you don’t end looking weird can be a challenge.
Guys can be lazy, it’s true I know we were shocked also but it’s a fact and coloring your hair is not something you pick off a menu board based on your favourite actor. It can be time consuming and the Maintainence can be ( not always ) high. If you want a result you have to put the time and effort into it.
I guess part of the problem is the options, there are far too many. It comes down to how much maintenance are you ok with and how much effort you want to put in. If you are ok with 2-3 sittings in the salon over a week then maybe platinum blonde is ok for you.
And if you just maintain the ash tone by using a silver shampoo then your look could evolve into something like this as it grows out.
Or if you want more fun then you need to go through the above then you can color it some fun colors but beware that these colors don’t last long and you will need to touch it up every week or so.
It you want pastel tones then you have to go platinum white first. These hair colors require a clean white base to start with.
Now if you start and decide it’s too much work then you will be left with a yellow or gold color that ends up looking like a bad DIY
So if you guys want to color your hair, the best thing to do is get some references of what you love then get yourself a consultation and a plan on how & when you will do it!
Finding out what you want is never as easy as asking “ what do you want” it’s always a lot more than what’s on the surface. A lot of people underestimate communication snd it can destroy economies, marriages and certainly be the difference between an horrific salon experience and one that you love!
Short to you is one thing, short to us is another and whilst you may not want a bleech used it would all be a belief based on the past or your understanding on what it does. Having someone explain the what why and how of you achieving something always helps. It may be right you shouldn’t do it, it may be also the only way you will ever love the look. Ask the right questions and you will get the good answers.
It’s true hairdressers talk a lot but in our own defence it’s because we know that’s how we find out the information we need to be able to make you love your hair.
Consultations are always free and it’s about finding out what you want and how to get it including pros and cons and price together with options.
Ever had an important meeting or function and the grey hair is poking out making you feel a little old? Hair mascara can be used ( typically ) but if it’s hot or you are under lights, add a little perspiration and…..
So before you try this and end up being the laughing stock of the planet, plan ahead and get your color done!
Moral of the story is, mistakes happen to everyone even Donald Trumps lawyer! Also don’t try to cut corners to save time, do it right the first time
A lot of guys tend to let the hair grow in order to cover it up or comb it over so they feel like they have more hair. Loosing your hair can be traumatic or emotional & understanding it’s somewhat out of your control due to hormones can be hard for some to embrace. Your hair doesn’t make you the person you are, in fact it has as much of a contribution as what clothes you wear. It’s your personality that speaks volumes about who you are. So in short don’t stress it’s not the end!
Getting the sides shorter exposes some skin therefore makes it look like there is less hair or density. Doing this matches the exposure to skin on the top so rather than looking like your going bald it looks like it’s meant to be!
