A lot of social media tends to make us think things are easy or perfect for some and why not everyone. A celebrity only posting holiday photos or a person one day brown hair next day pastel pink. Life is not as perfect as you think for 99.9% of people and nothing comes easy, some days are awesome and some days just suck. But that’s life and it’s beautiful.
To go pastel colors, can be done yes, is it easy and quick NO! Is it low Maintainence… NO! Will it damage your hair? Chances are yes!
Frequently we get asked to go platinum or ash blonde as if it’s available for anyone who asks and yet the reality is it’s not. If you have been coloring your hair dark then 2 weeks later decide ash blonde would look good for the weekend, it’s not going to happen! The darker your hair is the more warm pigment it has,the more warm pigment the more unlikely your hair will simply go white as easy as you expect. Can we do it, yes! Will it happen in one sitting No!
Now we don’t want to put you off visiting the salon but we are known for being brutally honest because we care more about your hair than anything. It may mean cutting some of your hair off, it may mean moving towards the desired color over a period of time or it may simply mean it’s not going to happen. Whatever the case we will go through the process and give you all the options.
Now to go pastel you have to get to a pale blonde first in majority of cases. Once you are a pale blonde then you are a blank canvas and pastel colors on your hair are easy and you can change your look literally every week if you feel like it.
Do we have the colors, YES! Will your hair be able to sustain itself for us to color it and keep it in one piece? That we need to see.
There seems to be a very cloudy topic when it comes to getting bright colors on dark hair, for some think it’s simply putting one color on and boom 💥 well kids we thought to clear up some misconceptions so it’s clearer. Don’t forget we are always happy to help you when it comes to getting your dream color and if you drop in we can guide you, give you an idea of price etc but doing it over the phone or DM is always going to be super approximate as we need to see and feel your hair to know what it needs and if it’s possible. You don’t have to get it done then, its to give you an idea on price, time involved, Maintainence etc.
Sometimes you may have a color already in your hair that very little needs to be done to get something super cool 😎
It’s about working with what you have to make it work!
Find out how you can get the color of your dreams today!
No matter what you do or who you talk to, there is a common thread that there is a certain level of expectations not being met. Now this ranges from salary, sex life, boyfriend/girlfriend goals to hair color and travel. Can’t really help you with the rest but want you to be aware of the following.
We have social media flooded with images of hair color, some real most photoshopped to the verge of unrealistic with most clients thinking it’s fairly easy, when in fact it’s a 12-16 hour color job but they want to be booked in be finished before lunchtime on a Saturday. We have hairdressers photoshopping colors to enhance them, clients using 3-5 filters to get that wow factor to enhance their feed.
We recently had a client with coloured black hair, wanting to have “just a few white highlights” then once we explained the process and the time involved almost looked like we were lying 🤥 it’s not a color you just slap on and that too on black hair.
Some people want instant and have very little concern for healthy of hair, Maintainence or anything as long as you can get s few good photo’s for your feed. Coloring hair is not as simple as choosing a box in our magical back room and putting it in a bowel, it is based on your hair history, condition, target color and the texture & strength of your hair.
Asking your friend what color they used and doing the same will never work it’s completely different from person to person as every single head of hair is not only different but has been through different things so it has to be treated separately.
If your thinking of a color change and looking for something that’s going to “Pop” come in and discuss it first to see if it’s realistic and what would it involve not only to do but to maintain. After years training we kind of know how to do color and what’s involved in achieving the best. We love talking hair and will always tell you fairly easily if your expectations are more like a Disney movie than reality.
Can I do it? Will it look good? Where on my head should I do it? Is it expensive? How long does it take?
So many questions 😬
Well let’s take you they it!
Firstly it’s done on lighter hair, so if your hair is dark or coloured dark it needs to be lightened. Once a light blonde is achieved the rainbow colors are selected and applied. Is it that simple? Reality is nothing is that simple however if you are dealing with a light shade already then it could be. If you have had color and there is a regrowth then it gets more complicated ( not impossible just complicated ).
Will it look good? Well everything can look good if it’s done right.
Is it expensive? Easy answer is no, but the reality is depends on the state of your hair when we start.
How long does it take? Seems like we are avoiding a straight answer but this depends on length, existing color etc. Ball park figure depending on amount your doing etc but a small rainbow on collar length hair 40-60 dollars 💵
If you have been dreaming of it then the time is right. Give us a call
You think you stand out because well, you’re just awesome but the reality is no one can see it. Your color blends into the walls and at night you are invisible. The only time anyone can see awesome is your dance moves and by that stage of the night everyone is looking cool!
Well here are some birds 🐦 that take color very seriously 24/7 and know how to maintain it!
So let’s just say now you could step things up a bit no? Well if you’re ready then get on the phone and give us a call.
We got to put it out there, recently we saw a TV ad with possibly the worst wig known to mankind. Sure the model maybe didn’t agree to go bright pink or maybe production thought they could pick up a perfect wig at the corner store who knows.
Moral of the story is
Yes all colors are possible on your hair, if your hair condition allows.
No natural looking wigs rarely will be able to be fitted to everyone and certainly don’t allow for a last minute change holding on to MTV music video expectations.
Plan plan plan
Pastel colors can be done, they take time and effort to do and maintain.
If you want a bright color wig, get on line and check which one fits your budget and do your research.
It’s true, at times life can go through ups and downs, times when everything is exciting and times when you fall asleep brushing your teeth. What is important that you don’t get “bored” with life rather the situation and spend all your energy to get out of that spot. Sure a quick thrill never hurt anyone but if you have seen it before it gets old, it’s the delivery that can change.
So why on earth are we talking about flashers? Well people, we need to make sure we don’t get into a rut with out hair & look. It’s really easy once you have hair that works not to change it but often we go back to what we know vs doing something that is different.
What we need to remember is that people tend not to see your internal changes, often saying “I know you” for the last 10 years yet you have changed so much yet you may look and sound the same. If you look the same, chances are people will see you the same. It’s important to develop your look as well as your personality to make sure life is turning.
Admit it, you have at some point thought why not, why not have a little pastel color and yet you haven’t done it yet.
So many decisions, do you go washed out, full blown mermaid, rainbow 🌈 or a solid hello how you doing fully Lit version. Well we can’t answer that only you can but let’s look at the next step if you do it then decide to change it.
If you have natural color and no color in it then your options are almost endless, if you have been colouring your hair black for the past decade then your options are limited but you still have options. The best way to color hair is to ensure the integrity of the structure of the hair whilst achieving the desired color. If you leave it in the right state then changing each time is always going to be an achievable.
There is always some things that need to be done in the salon and some things you should be doing at home to make sure your hair is in its optimal condition.
When it comes to creating mouth watering hair colors that your pet Unicorn 🦄 would be jealous of, we say confidently we know what it takes to get you to that hair eurphoria that instagram has you lusting after.
Because we do a lot of color correction as well as bright fantasy color we get the opportunity hands on to educate so our team is awesome. Our Salon in Meherchand has a cult like following of crazy color and we love it! The color above was done by Mohit who has created a following with his attention to detail and technical knowledge with color.
Things you want to consider before sitting in the chair!
You have to have a clean canvas in order to get your color even
Anything you have had done chemically is still there in your hair, your hair history is super important.
Whilst your goal may be a washed out salmon pink, your hair may not be able to get there in one application. Hair has its limitations.
After care is important, you must be using a sulfate free shampoo and must be conditioning it after every wash.
References are important and you and the hairstylist need to be on the same page before starting and limitations must be discussed.
Box colors may be readily available and cheap however they fade fast and also are not capable of achieving even true coverage.
Do your research on who is the best at it and who has the most experience.
Now it’s too early to call them up and to tell them they were wrong but so far we haven’t seen much in the salon. Too early to say if it’s bollocks or not but certainly with the amount of bright colors we are doing it’s only a matter of time!
You have spent a few months semi naked, carefree and braided now your thinking you want a change of scenery on dry land with a new look so what are you going to do?
First things first let’s remove all traces of glitter, it’s a little messy in between the sheets anyway.
Not to mention around the house, that shit just goes everywhere!
Have your last little romp around town with your tail and topless while you can still be considered exotic, as soon as that color changes they will all think your just crazy!
Now what options do you have with the color?
Depending on how much color, how long you have been doing it and the condition of your hair, it’s not an easy question to answer. Most likely your natural color has been lightened so bleaching your hair to remove the pastel should be done with great caution. Remember even if you can not see the blonde it is still there and so is the hair that was dragged through death and back.
Taking it darker is possible but kind of lame considering you are currently a creature from the deep blue. One way would be to let it fade out naturally, we can remove some extra color to help speed up the process. If your totally over it we suggest a slightly deeper color that camouflages the pastel but be warned, no matter how dark you go, you will most likely be shocked!
So you’ve invested considerable time looking for the perfect color on Pinterest and now searching which salon to call before making the big step, let’s drop some not so “alternative facts” and help you sort through the nonsense that we heard you might be told!
Understand a few things so you can leave the rest to a little common sense. The darker the hair the more it has to go through to get any light shade, the more you bleach it the more damage it can do. Hair is its gold yellow or red needs to be lighter to remove these undertones before being able to get the “mermaid” looking colors unless they too are red, yellow or orange.
Depending on how dark your hair is, it can take 2-3 applications and up to 9 hours.
May not be able to remove red, orange or yellow totally depends on your hair which in turn will effect end result
Is more expensive than a regular color yes. Sometime a lot, 3-4 times. Anyone who offers this at a very cheap price or deal be suspicious
Once you do the pastel shade over the blonde or lightened sections, understand it will fade fast, can stay for 10-15 washes or could last 1-3 months depending on hair quality after lightening.
Will it make your hair fall out… no. If done incorrectly it could break but there are treatments to prevent this happening.
Care and at home Maintainence? Sulfate free shampoo that won’t strip color. Pastel blondes may require a purple shampoo to maintain tone ( like kms blonde shampoo or clairol blonde available on line )
You can color it back close to your natural color yes however covering the color does not change the fact underneath its colored and could be damaged. Long term care is required.
So the darker the hair the harder it is, the more work needed and the more upkeep. Can it be done? Of course it can be but takes time and know how.
