Put your hand up if you baked Banana Bread in 2020 🙋🏼♂️ keep them up if you worked out online 🙋🏼♂️ get comfortable because keep them there if you grew tomatoes 🍅 🙋🏼♂️ So by now we all think we can DIY almost everything because we had too and some things we can do better. I must say our home made carrot cake is the best I’ve ever had!
But when it comes to doing your own hair color or cut it’s just not the same because even if you have the 35 min video open of “ How to cut hair like a pro in less than an hour” you most likely can’t condense years of practical experience in a 35 min video.
The need of the hour earlier was DIY because there wasn’t options plus no one was looking at you. Now it’s slightly different and you have access to salons. The salon open so you don’t have to worry about helping yourself.
You know it sounds too good to be true, or in fact it sounds suspicious I know!
We are all looking for a bargain but sadly no colors are not 180rp and you need to start shopping for result rather than price as the product is only part of the service, you also need skill.
We have lost count of the times we have spent hours fixing up a cheap hair color or a DIY haircut. Given everyone was locked up for over 2 months it’s ok that you gave it a go it’s perfectly fine in fact we get it. We have told many while in lockdown to simply shave it off because at the end of the day, hair grows!
But understand there is a lot more to doing color than simply opening a bottle and putting it on someone’s head ( I guess if you did do it yourself you most likely know that now ). Grey coverage, undertones, resistant mix, color fade and brocken off cuticles along with dehydrated hair and an over porous ends all lead to a huge variation in the end result.
We all have that one friend who when you ask “ Omg you have new hair” they very confidently say yes I did it myself for 180rp and guess what sadly in a lot of cases it looks like it too. Now not shaming anyone at all, if you can DIY and it’s working we say stick too it! But if you think you can take your black hair white cheaper and better than us, then we have to tell you to stop!
Happy to discuss ways to get your dream color within a budget or time frame and we also love being 100% transparent. If it’s possible we will tell you up front, if it’s not then we will tell you that too.

So we know where you are and fundamentally what your going through because plus or minus we are all locked down in the same boat, no I’m not writing this from a luxury estate poolside either. The reality is most things have become annoying and some are coping better than others. It’s hard, so don’t be too hard on yourself, everyone is struggling it’s ok.
What we would like to highlight after getting a few messages and emails is DIY hair color! Now whilst we lived spending 3-4 hours a few months ago with you to help you transition you from black with a 70% grey regrowth to a slightly lighter more natural base what you have done or thinking about could be irreversible! Yes just because you saw someone on YouTube telling you to go to the kitchen and mix a bowl of ( god knows what ) and put it on your hair please don’t!
Doing color at home is not only a huge risk but often won’t be able to be reversed simply or in a healthy manner in one visit. We have seen colors go so bad it took months to get it back to normal, the cost as well as the damage may not be worth it!
We know it’s annoying but if you can hold off it is better, sure with your regrowth the size it is once you do it, there may be issues because of the size however at least you won’t be trying to correct color!
So before you think a “live DIY” how to color your hair pink in 5 short minutes sounds too easy to be true, understand it actually is too easy to be true! Please also read Hair treatments you can make at home to make sure you are not mashing onions or rubbing ginger on your scalp expecting it to thinken up!
For a lot of people who only blow dry their hair at a salon this time has been a nightmare! With so much information online, it’s an easy access to use this time to get your skills updated so you can be more self sufficient for sure, but what about trying new styles or opting for not doing anything?
We have always maintained that the cut is the most important thing to make sure you can “wash and go” it gives the hair shape and with our dey cutting technique it encourages every hair to have a purpose. Well we are closed and your locked up at home so kind of pointless to bring that up so let’s work on things you can do now at home!
Avoid excess heat tools
While you can’t get those dry ends trimmed it’s important you don’t put undue stress on already fragile hair, avoiding irons and heat unless you have too is going to help your hair get through this lockdown.
Tricks when blow drying your hair
One of the two biggest causes of frizz is nit using conditioner and blast drying your hair upside down. Hair needs conditioner every time you wash it, the cuticle needs closing or it will be left open and the internal moisture will evaporate. As far as blast drying hair upside down, we can’t stress enough this this is not going to set you up for success or extra fullness, it will lead to one big frizz ball! You blast dry on medium heat downwards, down the hairshaft and finish with COLD AIR yes COLD AIR this sets the hair, smoothies and relaxes the cuticle to give you a set closed smooth cuticle! Try it and see for yourself it works
Combing your hair whilst the conditioner is in
When you have finished shampooing your hair, remove excess moisture and condition mid lengths to ends. When the condition is in use a wide tooth comb through your hair then rinse. After it’s all rinsed, don’t disturb it too much, the hair at this point shouldn’t be aggregated too much.
By now you probably have spent more time styling your own hair than you have in the last 12 months and it’s only week 2 ( or is it 3? Not sure lost count ). Anyway you can finally see it for what it is, the good, the bad and the ugly but one thing we think a lot of you will realise is what we have been saying for years!
Your natural movement, texture, bend or call it curl is actually beautiful and only needs tweaking with the cut for you to be able to manage it and let it loose in public! Sure it may be desperate for a trim, the ends must be split by now and this may cause the finished look to be a little frizzy but that’s ok.
I guess we all want what we don’t have and if you have curly hair you want it smooth, if you have flat hair you want it full and that’s one of the reasons we are in business ( well not now ). Making the most of what you have is a message that we all have to live with right now being confined to our house, lucky to have a roof over our head and food in the fridge and a phone and Internet to even read this. Truly blessed to have life itself.
So once this is over and we are all out maybe we can all live a little more free and instead of wishing our lives away wanting to try to fit in, we can be more free and enhance the hair we have rather than push and pull it into a direction that isn’t sustainable. Be the best version of you
Well honestly I’ve heard all kinds of weird and crazy things over the years and when it comes to home remedies honestly the bizarre stuff some people do is really eye popping! But the one trend which varies depending on who you talk too is the “no poo shampoo”
Yes it varies and let us explain our version which honestly has worked really well for several people we know. It’s basically only using half the amount of shampoo and only doing the roots, in short think only half wash your hair then rinse. It’s not for everyone and for some it can be not enough to properly cleanse the scalp but if your hair is fine it can be amazing on creating fullness!
Now if you have time on your hands, let’s be honest we know you do try googling “no poo shampoo” there is brands by the name of it, home remedies with using Baking powder, apple cider vinegar etc but we do not endorse or recommend that. We are simply saying try this technique with the shampoo you have. Wet the hair, use 50-60% less than you would normally and wash only the roots. You can work it through the ends lightly then rinse and lightly condition. It leaves your scalp and hair slightly gritty, slightly dirty without the oil that weighs it down. Try it over the next few days and let us know how you went!
DIY hair and YouTube’rs that claim they do hair is fun to watch and in some cases they do some cool hair, possibly even beautiful hair!
But it’s not something that you can learn in 5 minutes or a few tutorials which is highly edited and not relevant to everyone’s hair type. It can be an easy thing to miss judge your medium texture hair with someone else’s and not take into consideration yours is thicker, has been pre lightened and then coloured dark, hasn’t been cut in 6 months and has more damage than iPhone dropped from a roof of a 15 story building. No your hair is not basically the same, no you don’t understand why it is now breaking off in handfuls.
A bad color can literally burn your hair off at the roots! Have a weekend bender, that’s fun but don’t bring out sharp instruments or start colouring your hair because you watched a few videos.
Only trust professional hair salons, this is not a DIY job. Give us a call or drop in and have a free consultation
You tired of watching YouTube video’s on how to style the perfect curls, 24 ways to wear your hair or hair hacks? It’s true some people are just plain bad at it but with a little help it can be easier than what you think!
Here are a few tips that are the biggest cause of hair fail, your welcome!
Always use a conditioner or leave in conditioner don’t think by not conditioning it’s always the right way to get fullness. Use it only on your hair not scalp.
Pat dry your hair after shower, don’t toss it around, flipping it all over the place expecting it to do anything other than make it frizzy
Blast dry your hair gently BEFORE trying to style it! Yes 90% dry before you pick up a brush!
Just because the stylist did 17 sections all nice and neat, you can do a lot less and don’t stress too much about how neat or messy it looks.
Don’t use too much product, try it without and build up on it each time you do it.
After you think you are done don’t play with it too much, often it is just a gentle pat into place that it needs nothing more!
Once it’s dry, brushing it too much is not the answer!
Dry shampoo is ok but a lot can leave the hair looking dull, try a dusting powder or limit your dry shampoo.
Serum in moderation is great but using too much can make it look oily.
.Next time you’re at the salon watch, ask questions and see how it’s done or take a video so you can refer to it later!
It’s rarely just the tools that make the difference although at times they help. Good luck!
Don’t know what you were taught as a child but we got drilled into us, do it right the first time. A lot of people still think that a 5 minute video on how to color hair or because you are following multiple hairdressers and watch all the stories on Instagram is going to give you the skills to do hair. Babe it’s not If you are on a budget, we get it and will help you get the look within your budget but when you do it yourself, then have to fix it you can end up spending more time and money doing it.
Maybe your parents vibe was get it cheaper, or do it yourself?
Whatever or whoever you want to blame right now if you look like this it’s kind of irrelevant. The fix now is get it to not look like a colouring in gone wrong by a 4 year old.
Come have a chat with us on how you can get the look you are after!
Because we all like to be rebels, the moment you hear this you may be already planning on giving it a shot. Certain things are harmless to try a DIY and certain things are not, after all I guess years of study there are things that will be taught you can’t get from a 3 1/2 minute YouTube video ( but then again who knows right!)
Things not to try yourself
Replacing your hard drive
Refilling gas cylinders
Cutting or colouring your own hair
Giving your self a hair transplant ( or kidney transplant for that matter )
Waxing your Va-jay-jay
And no I didn’t slip the hair ones in to be all dramatic, we have seen some whoppers come try and fixing it after things have gone terribly wrong. Understand some things are better done by someone who does it for a living after studying for years.
So recently we were told about several people that promoted DIY hair, no they were not hairdressers, actually nothing to do with hair, you know those people who are blessed at knowing everything.
How to do this or that and almost like an authority you almost think omg it must work, beautiful photos of fruit and veggies 🌶 you kinda get sucked in. Let’s face it we have all googled to find a cheap cure for something at some stage 😳.
Well when it’s hair and you’re on a budget best thing is to go too a professional salon tell them what your wanting and give them a budget, see what can be done, maybe nothing or maybe just maybe you will get close to your dream Hair the right way. Maybe getting it done right the first time will save you money and time also.
Your grandmother sure knows how to make awesome food right, she told you things that all came true yet daily your eating carrots 🥕 and you still can see in the dark, you eat all the crusts and no curly hair ( other than the short ones ). So why did she lie?
Well not saying she was a liar 🤥 but am guessing she didn’t know any better, life as not the same as it is today, pollution wasn’t what it is and our lives were completely different. Whilst coloring and blow drying wasn’t even a thing you can only imagine what condition hair was in, maybe mashing up the contents of your fridge actually made you feel better who knows!
Well home remedies don’t work, rubbing food on your head or scalp is in fact possibly the fastest way to get a bacterial infection.
Always trust a professional salon and let your grandmother keep telling you stories but know they are not cures more of a feel good kinda in a strange way.
So your the type of person who crashes at your friends place, always leaves your wallet at home & always look for the cheaper way to get things done.
Now whilst we all hate you, because your constant cry poor nonsense and your constant buying of clothes, shoes and electronics ( yes we all noticed! ) you try mixing home remedies for your hair because you think it’s cheaper!
Well the biggest problem with trying to duplicate experience when it comes to hair color or hair care is that hair depth, density, strength and porosity varies dramatically from person to person and then vary from month to month. With that being said a “home remedy” or a DIY today may work, tomorrow may be a total disaster. A harmless Color that your told is “natural” makes even the most mild bleech react and turn your hair to straw!
I guess it’s only when things go terribly wrong, you realise that there may be more to this than your grandmothers remedies. Before trying to do things yourself, always get professional advice from a professional salon.
An important fact to remember, the home remedies done 100 years ago were done on hair that was exposed to far less than it is today. Pollution, chemicals in water, chemicals in food and the list goes on. It’s a complete different world today that we are exposed too than it was 20,30,50 years ago.
Recently we heard of a woman who went to get a skin treatment from a dermatologist ( someone who studied skin ) and came out with the most obnoxiously wrong advice for her hair that involved home remedies and things that would send her hair for a complete toss!
Sure the advice given possibly had the best intentions but wrong on every way. The problem here is it’s like asking a guy who sells fruit how to cook a steak, it’s not his job although he may suprise us all and know. He may even give you some home remedies to fight off a cold or give you a complete juice detox to cure diebeties or even cancer but let’s be honest it’s unlikely.
If your serious about your hair, go to a professional salon, not someone who really isn’t qualified on hair. If you want skin advice we won’t give it to you, you want your makeup done we don’t do it. We do hair, we are trained in hair, not how to cook steak, home remedies on stain removal or how to stop your husband from snoring.
We all like to hear the sound of our voice and maybe you just wanted to ask everyone you met, get as much opinion as possible then decide. Well because it’s what we do we know our business better than others so if you have random questions don’t hesitate to drop us a line on email or social media.
As the saying goes ” If you want something done properly, you have to do it yourself”. Or in some cases if you want it at all you have to do it yourself lol 😂
We bring up Mrs Palmer and her 5 daughters because some people still to this day think that if they watch one or two YouTube video’s or spend 10 min in a salon that they are experts.
Now whilst sometimes you may have to wait in a salon un attended for a minute or two, end up watching the hairstylist at work ( this is not the same as training for years)
Now there are some take away tips for doing your hair at home, if the foundation cut is correct you will have to do very little, we will teach you don’t worry.
When it comes to what products or equipment you need to get you over the line ( yes we are still talking about your hair lol ) it’s part of what we do. If you can’t recreate what we do in a realistic amount of time then there is a problem.
Come see us and let us get you to that ” happy place” 😝😂🤘🏻
There are moments that a little fade is normal and expected, hair has the capacity at times to retain color if the condition is right and Maintainence is sorted.
Then there are times when fading is not acceptable. Now with so many so called Beauty experts, beauty bloggers, mothers and grandmothers it’s hard to know who to listen too or who to trust and depending on who you ask or at what time as to the answer you get.
We like to think of ourselves as experts and I guess studying for 4 years full time to call ourselves “Hairstylists” gives us the right to tell you what to believe. It’s not a gage of who knows best but if the color is meant to be done by hairstylists one would imagine that they know how it should be maintained?
A few things to consider to prevent your color from fading
The depth and longevity of your color is determined amoungst other factors varied on the condition and color your colouring over ( if it’s been bleeched white, you can not expect the hair to hold the same as natural hair for example )
Your shampoo has to change, SLS & Parabin free shampoo has been around for years, it’s not a fad nor are the benifits a myth. We use Alfa Parf which there range is SLS free
Never use OIL NEVER EVER! Coats your hair, heats up hair and causes it to become brittle and color will fade.
Trim every 6-8 weeks
Don’t go over the ends every time (only when it needs it and that would be like once a year!)
Water quality & Chlorine from swimming plays a large part in it also so try to avoid hard water and pools or better still put it in a cap and use a little uv protection to help chemical absorbing.
Got a problem with your color? Ask us anything we are happy to help.
Hairdressers, typically get an insight into the life of the people sitting in the chair more than family and at times closer than husbands and wives. We listen, we talk and we connect, it’s a relationship that is hard to define at times.
But make no mistake there are some things that make us want to pick you up and shake you until you stop doing them ( obviously the personal habbits aside ).
The 5 things we want you to stop now!
Don’t make appointments and be so late then expect us to drop everything because your finally ready. Respect everyone’s time, 10 min is a lot when your appointment may be only 30min
Bring in references we love them but don’t expect miracles in one sitting, at times it takes time for a transition.
Come in and talk with us about hair, ask loads of questions it honestly makes us happy. Come in and get a DIY on how to do it yourself and I assure you not only will your hair will regret it but you will when it costs you twice as much to fix it.
Don’t skip appointments your hair needs trimming every 6-8 weeks regardless of how long it is or how long you want to grow it.
Stop overdoing things and then expecting the best out of your hair, too much color, too many changes of color, too much heat styling and the list goes on.
No this doesn’t mean we don’t love you it just means we have to be on the same page if it’s going to be a long term love that’s all.
No matter how good your profile picture is on Tinder, if you want a second encounter let’s give you a few pointers on how to get that sexy af hair you have always dreamt of.
One thing a lot of our clients tell us who try to get that “just got shagged” hair is that when you end up doing it on yourself it feels messy, chances are you tried too hard. You end up looking in the mirror thinking holly cow I looked like I just got shagged. Well don’t panic here are some pointers to help.
Styling on dirty hair is best, if it’s oily then best to wash & condition it the morning of your night out. If you forgot or got lazy then use some dry shampoo because messy hair that’s oily just looks dirty!
On dry hair using a large curling tong ( 32 inch ) vertically curl two inches from roots leaving the ends out.
Don’t be particular about sections it shouldn’t besectioning challenge starting at the nape try to cover to top in 4 row sections.
After your done, head upside down and a little mess up using finger tips at the roots, a light spray of dry shampoo from approx 30-40 cm away and flip your head upright.
Pull and place a little optional you can add a little curl Creme on sections or a little paste but do not go crazy.
A few things to keep in mind are do not use too much product and once you flip upright don’t take it too much, this is not a pretty little afternoon tea with your girlfriends at the old age home. Your getting ready to impress!
Best worm with ripped denim, a loose vintage shirt, very little makeup and a ” I really don’t care ” what you think attitude.
If you love that shaggy hair you should also check out Shaggy hair
Ever wondered how celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Gigi Hadid to Kendal Jenner all step off a flight looking immaculate? We have decided to make life easier for you because no one wants to be going through customs looking like a drug dealer and go through those invasive searches.
Here is 5 things you need to do
Before getting on the plane, have your hair freshly blown out, use very little product just a serum that’s it ( too much product will create a birds nest at the back of your head)
A low pony tail in a loose elastic to stop it getting frizzy or tangly.
A good neck pillow, apart from being good for your neck it will stop those questionable creases on your face you may wake up too.
For those with straight hair a braid is a perfect go too and will keep everything in order and you can take it out and with a light ruffle of your fingers can look HOT
Things to carry on the plane, we all know we are limited so a 16ml bottle of “Cristali liquid” by Alfa Parf the liquid gold of frizz control plus “Reserection dust” by Label.
Just as they wake you up for landing get these two little saviours out and head to the washroom. A very light sprinkle of resurrection dust ( soaks up excessive oil and adds volume ) two drops of cristali liquid rub it in your hands and add from ends to mid lengths.
Well it’s coming up to festival time in India and everyone wants overnight results. If you had of been reading our posts throughout the year or visiting our salon you could save yourself the drama and stop here. In case your not please pay attention now and then give us a call.
1. Refreshing that color, it adds to the hairshaft and close the cuticle which will reflect more light.
2. A clear color, yes you heard me it’s a clear gloss which its only job is to add a clear sheen to reflect light.
3. Get a Linseed treatment, closes the cuticle adds moisture to the structure of the hair and will make it shine and feel amazing! ( do this monthly your hair will thank you!)
4. A weightless serum like Alfa Parf cristali liquid or the Diamond drops, weightless and adds shine and UV protection.
5. Use a shine spray! Be careful not to use too much or it will make it look oily.
Now obviously the best treatment is prevention, your hair should always be ready so having the right hair are regime and stylist is always better than trying to get overnight results. Either way your on the right track now so enjoy!
It’s not a new request to get asked for DIY instructions, just like chefs get asked for the recipe it’s never going to be the same. Well for me anyway doesn’t help even with YouTube, maybe get you closer to getting the end result but there is always hidden issues.
After training for 4 years to become a qualified hairstylist you can never put that amount of info on the back of a box no matter how small the font.
No matter how foolish it sounds, everyone has tried weird home remedies hoping that it will make their hair long, silky, thicker, and help to reduce hair fall. Honestly, we all need to stop picking things from our kitchen garden, fridge and the kitchen cupboards and stuffing it on our hair. Not only it is “disgusting” to be dunking your head with egg, fatty milk, honey, curd, etc etc, it’s ineffective. I don’t know if desperation has even let someone of you to put ‘cow shit’ on your head, and everyone avoids you for a week, let me be frank it’s NOT GOING TO WORK. Get over these MYTHS, and stop putting yourself through the torture.
If you’re squeezing orange juice right now as we speak, then maybe it would be much more beneficial if you drank it than use it as part of your hair care regime! Keeping a healthy diet with proper amount of exercise is much better use of time then fussing over natural external remedies. Get rid of your medieval ways of making herbal pastes, instead start by breaking free from the myths.
Regular trim makes your hair go longer – MYTH
Hair grows from roots, not the ends so obviously it won’t help your hair to grow longer, what it will do however is help you keep your hair healthy without split ends, if split ends appear and you are trimming it regularly then they will be removed.
One of my favourites is the beer myth, I don’t know what people think before washing their hair with beer, the only excuse to it should be when you’re shit drunk, and have spilt it all over your head. MYTH
Cold water is better for your hair – NO IT’S NOT
In fact, cold water rinses may not efficiently rinse products out your hair as well as warm water, and it doesn’t make your hair shiny and silky. Rinsing your hair with hot water helps to open up your cuticles and pores, which is good while shampooing or conditioning your hair. Cold water seals your cuticles and pores, so that your hair doesn’t get damaged too easily, and protects the scalp pores from dirt, grease and oil. When it comes to your shampoo, the best advice is to use Paraben (chemical preservatives) & Sulphate free shampoos; as these chemicals cause hair loss and hair thinning because it deteriorates the follicles of the hair, and slows the growth of hair.
I can go on and on about 100 myths but let me just say, it’s the 21st century people!!! No one buys a product without looking it up, then why would you be breaking eggs on your head believing in myths? So let go of your myths and save your time to go out for coffee with your bae.
