Can’t wait to see you all

I was gone for an extended weekend, why you all so dramatic

With the lack of pollution around the world it’s the ideal time to put your phone on silent, stop tweeting and just live life!

Sadly I can’t even go to the toilet or a little gallop in the hills, within minutes Donald is texting me asking why I’m not replying says Kim. Honestly it got a bit much a few weeks ago so I told my sister to deal with him.

With or without oil?

Now in India you have all grown up being told oiling you’re hair makes it healthy, grow faster, thicker etc etc and every now and then you wonder why it feels dry still, well here is why!

The hair once it leaves the body is dead keratin and it’s not alive it’s dead, the growing part of your hair is under the skin and is feed by what’s inside your body with small elements of the growth subject to the outside world. The dead keratin ( or commonly called your hair ) can last longer looking better if we treat it the right way, so far so good and makes sense!

Now once the hair exists the body it has internal moisture on the inside and an outside layer that opens and shuts called the cuticle ( think fish scales overlapping each other ) if they are open the internal moisture gets sucked out by heat damage, pollution, chemicals, coloring incorrectly, Sun, wrong products and neglect and the list goes on.

Using oil to get a head massage you relax ( awesome ) but you maybe have forgotten oil and water don’t mix right? So what happens is even if you wash it out 1-2 times directly afterwards there are small oil particles left in the cracks and in between the cuticle. Over time more is there and with heat from the sun, our body and/or heat from styling they get sealed on the hair eventually coating it completely like glue.

Then what happens is that the internal moisture evaporates from the hair pulling the oil coating tighter onto the cuticle, making it tight suffocating the hair. At this point you have super shinny hair and are most likely convinced your hair is super healthy, the reality is far from that. The oil layer is making your hair look shinny yes, your hair is actually brittle, dry and extremely fragile.

Don’t believe us? Try getting a small amount of hair in between your fingers and rubbing it together. Hear that rough sound like sandpaper? It’s the rough coating over the cuticle.

What do you do instead of oil I hear you asking?

Well firstly oil doesn’t need a replacement as it’s not needed or desired for healthy hair firstly so relax you don’t need to replace it with anything. You do however need shampoo followed by a conditioner and if your hair is brittle maybe a leave in conditioner and a moisturiser.

When these things were used or started it was a different time, the world was different we didn’t have the Developement with products or science to know better. We do now and we know that it is not what your hair needs. If you still can’t survive without a weekly oil massage replace oil with conditioner you will thank later.
