Chances are if you color your hair you have been told to color the entire head of hair if not everytime every second, after all the color should be the same from roots to ends correct?
Wrong! If you want it to look natural and be healthy you shouldn’t be coloring the ends, it should be left to fade a little to give a more naturally worn color. Apart from the look of it, think about the condition, if you keep putting a color on the same hair over and over again the damage is going to eventually catch up with you!
A worn color is typically 1-1.5 shades lighter on the ends due to sun, exposure and slight fading. It looks good but if it becomes too gold or red you can tone it a little every now and then as needed or alternatively use a toning shampoo that helps keep the warm pigments shrunk.
We all know someone that when asked what they feel like to eat they reply with “ anything” yet they don’t mean anything. Describing a mood or a color is not always the easiest task. You want to feel relaxed but not so relaxed your almost sleeping, you want it blue but not bright blue.
To be able to achieve the goal color for your hair it involves a conversation that requires some in-depth Q&A about exactly what you have in your mind. Now obviously the best thing to do would be to have some reference images to help you and we would always suggest 2-3 images of your ideal color.
Saying you want a powerful blonde means different blonde depending on who you ask. Similarly if you say short to someone with a shaved head the image in the mind will be different to than if you ask someone with hair halfway down their back.
If you say pink to someone, any of these could be passed as being pink!
All completely different colors but yet the same.
We believe that there is an image in your mind as to what color you want your hair, the perfect color. It’s our job to get that image out and the plan how to achieve it. It’s not the name you call the color we are interested in, it’s your image of that color we need to find.
Consultations are the key to a successful salon visit no matter what. If there are no questions being asked, chances are one of you is in for a surprise!
You know it sounds too good to be true, or in fact it sounds suspicious I know!
We are all looking for a bargain but sadly no colors are not 180rp and you need to start shopping for result rather than price as the product is only part of the service, you also need skill.
We have lost count of the times we have spent hours fixing up a cheap hair color or a DIY haircut. Given everyone was locked up for over 2 months it’s ok that you gave it a go it’s perfectly fine in fact we get it. We have told many while in lockdown to simply shave it off because at the end of the day, hair grows!
But understand there is a lot more to doing color than simply opening a bottle and putting it on someone’s head ( I guess if you did do it yourself you most likely know that now ). Grey coverage, undertones, resistant mix, color fade and brocken off cuticles along with dehydrated hair and an over porous ends all lead to a huge variation in the end result.
We all have that one friend who when you ask “ Omg you have new hair” they very confidently say yes I did it myself for 180rp and guess what sadly in a lot of cases it looks like it too. Now not shaming anyone at all, if you can DIY and it’s working we say stick too it! But if you think you can take your black hair white cheaper and better than us, then we have to tell you to stop!
Happy to discuss ways to get your dream color within a budget or time frame and we also love being 100% transparent. If it’s possible we will tell you up front, if it’s not then we will tell you that too.

If you always do what you’ve always done, you will always get what you already got.
Sometimes to get the things we want we have to break a cycle of doing things that in some cases, cause the opposite. No one wants to hear that the things they do are wrong but sometimes we need to be told. If you are constantly eating junk food, no exercise and sleep erratically the chances of you being the most healthy are fairly slim. Good habits create results if continued long enough.
Now let’s talk hair! When you shampoo your hair, the mission should be to cleanse your scalp so it’s not about rubbing the hair too much rather it’s about massaging the roots and then working it through the ends. You rinse well to make sure all the shampoo is removed. Then you Squeeze out excess moisture!
Then you apply conditioner on ends and work it through to the mid lengths not the roots or scalp. Conditioner is for your hair! Using a wide tooth comb starting from the bottom comb through to the roots to remove any tangles. Rinse well and not aggressive then don’t touch your hair.
A lot get out of the shower flip hair upside down and wrap a towel! DO NOT DO THIS! It creates unwanted tension and friction on the hair. Imagine you want to avoid frizz yet you place your hair upside down twisted into a towel expecting it to sit frizz free when it’s out and down? Never goi g to happen!
Once out of the shower, gentle pat dry your hair in the position it’s in, add some leave in conditioner or serum as required and only using fingers place it where you want it. If you use a styling product go ahead and gently put that in but avoid touching it much at all.
These few habits will help you manage your hair in between trips to the salon as well as daily.
If you want to hide something, put it in plain sight and no one will see it!
So you have spent the better half of this year trying to figure out how to color your hair at home or how to hide it but why?
Why are you trying to hide or cover it up? Chances are it’s your perception that it makes you look old rather than reality. As we get older our skin tone changes so too our hair so rather than cover it up and try to match it up to the color you were at 21 why not try to enhance it and make the best out of it?
It’s not like there isn’t options, in fact the grow out is hard initially but it can be helped in various ways to be able to get you through it. Or you can simply go cold turkey and let it be.
You may want to check out What we can do here or come speak to us and let’s work out a plan to get you off this cycle!
With not a lot going on socially we have all had time to think of a color or a look that we want, possibly even filling up our saved images on Instagram. It’s a good time to reflect and refine what works, what doesn’t and how much effort you honestly want to put into Maintainence.
Hair color can be high maintenance but it can be done so it’s incredibly low Maintainence too. Getting it right can be tricky depending on your expectations and since you have time on your hands it might be a good idea to check out the options.
A solid color grows out with a solid regrowth, making it obvious you color your hair even after a week in some cases days depending on your natural color and the color you do.
Now balayagè can be high Maintainence too if you not carful, options are amazing but again depending on how often you want to keep visiting the salon and your budget it can be overwhelming.
A blended version that is low Maintainence leaves you regrowth free and able to not worry about your hair for months, other than your regular 6-8 week trims and is super sexy.
So if you think you’re up for a change why not do it!
They say always look on the bright side and we have been saying to stop covering your grey hair for a while now so it’s no surprise 11 weeks locked up you have finally decided to like it!
The idea that our hair should be the same color as when you were 23 isn’t a new one, in fact most people think grey ( or actually white ) hair isn’t real and refer to it as if it’s not natural at all. Well it is and it’s ok!
The idea of getting back to normal should include a visit to the salon every 10-15 days to make your hair dark there are OPTIONS and considering you already have a substantial regrowth now is a great time to make the transition. It’s not about going cold turkey, although that is an option too rather soften the white hair and the contrast of the old color and the new.
Coloring it never made it grey it’s your DNA and has nothing to do with you coloring your hair. The darker you color it the faster you see the roots Read this
So if your ready for a NEW YOU and want low Maintainence there are options, talk to us on how to avoid going back to the old you that had to co Stanely worry about the white hairs showing!
Growing a beard is not hard but getting the right shape & design that compliments your face shape can be.
There are a few hacks to understand how you can decide which shape is best, remembering everyone has a combination of face shape so only once seeing your face can we tell. Let’s go through some easy things to remember when deciding what shape is best for you.
Now if you have a round face you need to lengthen it, so less hair on the sides and slightly longer.
If you have a Square face then you need to soften it up and round of the edges a little and lengthen it slightly.
Oval is almost open to any beard design so you decide what you like and what looks good.
Long face or high forehead can not have a large beard, it can be stubble but the last thing you want to do is add more length to your face!
Remember both the shape of your beard as well as the color plays a big role. You can’t color your beard too much and think it looks natural, it doesn’t! Plus sometimes it will look like you don’t have a mouth!
So once you have worked out which face shape you have, the hairstyle you want and then work on what beard design to grow it into! Always keep it well maintained and clean, using a face or beard wash several times a day and keep it crumb free while eating.
Sadly looks like we are left on the “do not open” list because of the broad idea that this is how salons operate. Whilst it maybe how some do it’s hardly the normal. Once we have an update we will let everyone know, we are so eager to get back to doing hair!
According to news reports every week there will be update of lockdown measures and revised accordingly. So hoping everyone does the right thing so everyone can get back to opening up. Keep your distance and see you soon
While right now you think it’s no problem and possibly can’t remember the maintenance of your grey hair let’s stop for a minute and remember. You can’t go too far from the salon because what was dark hair 15 years ago with a few random grey hairs is now 80% of the color. You are still coloring it the same color it was to match your wedding photos as you celebrate your 30 year anniversary.
The thought of even the slightest white hair showing even after 10-12 days after it starts to poke out makes you feel completely awe full. What’s the solution?
The level of coverage is what will help you! While in the past you have always been on the lookout for 100% coverage it’s possibly one of the most high maintenance colors you can do depending on your particular situation. But if your natural hair is now 80% white and your coloring it brown then guess what, people will see a regrowth in less than a week!
But if you don’t have the strength to get through the first few months then Smudging is the answer to give you a little help getting over the first step.
We can already hear you say grey hair makes you look older, well we completely disagree with you in fact it does the opposite. It can age you by 10-15 years, it’s only you that thinks it looks bad. Check these inspirations Photos out!
So we thought, considering you have already done that hard bit and by our estimate have a big regrowth it may be time to think about your options, could be go cold turkey or it may be opting for a In between color to free some of your time and money!
There are so many ways to help you through this transition if you are ready for it!
For some it’s been a few days for most it’s been a few weeks and whilst we know you are more than likely looking radiant, rested and have applied every face pack that you had in the house. The reality is, by now or in a few days from now your natural color will be shinning through in all its glory, that together with your face mask your phone is possibly not recognising you all the time. It starts like this, few days later Alexa will think your an intruder so it’s time to act now before it’s too late!
We suggest you do absolutely nothing because fixing a bad color ( not saying you won’t do a good job ) can cost double the amount it should! Wait relax less going live on Instagram unless the camera is facing away. Turn off the facial recognition and Chill it won’t be that long!
You probably used to sit at your desk or workstation wishing you were home watching netflix or chilling wondering why you have to even work. This was most likely only days or weeks ago now you are dreaming of fresh air, sunshine and even missing being around that annoying person in the office! Funny how we always want something we can’t have till you have it then you realise it wasn’t that good of an idea in the first place!
We all have habbits with our hair and whilst the odd hair flip may seem sexy or playing with those split ends is a good time pass it most certainly won’t have you looking good by the time you get to the salon next so stop it right now!
Use the free time productively, give your hair a break from blow dries and the daily abuse you put it through and let it chill. Stay safe kids
The minute there is a problem, we all break out with great quotes on Instagram about how bad it is and let’s be honest it’s bad! But we can choose to be full of fear, drama and scared or we can choose to be empowered and motivating to the people around us!
Obviously be safe and respectful because it’s possibly the most traumatic time in all our lives but understand we will get through it! Choose to be a beacon of light rather than the grim reaper, stay informed but not obsessed. Use the free time to focus on what you are doing and the life you are living, regardless of this life is actually short.
We have taken measures and continue to do so to make sure we as well as you are 100% safe and we are open!
It’s a fact that whatever you have you simply will think it would be better if you had the opposite, sadly that’s the way a lot of us are wired! Dark you want it light, light you want it dark. You have it cut short only to be wanting to grow it till it’s long again, curly you want it straight and straight you dream of having hair with a curl or bend!
Honestly you are all mental!
Want what you don’t have? Give us a call and get the opposite hair that you have! 01141010011
What you put in, you get back and it’s not just food and your body we are talking about. There is no end to this principle the more you put into things the more you get back. Garbage in garbage out it’s really that simple, you can not surround yourself with idiots and expect to be exceptional just like you can’t eat fast food and expect to be 100% healthy!
Gluten free haircuts are haircuts that work, they don’t require blowdry daily, they are architecturally put together for ease of styling and require little or no fuss! They come with full instructions and little maintenance!
Not everyone has luscious thick healthy hair, in fact very few do but it’s about making it appear like you do. We all know people and maybe we all are guilty of portraying a different version of reality than what is most real. The truth is we all want to look the best we can do a little trick here and there isn’t going to hurt anyone!
Whilst we have grown up thinking the more you get the better the value for money but in reality it doesn’t always work that way, in fact with hair it’s about quality over quantity. You wouldn’t cut more off just because the price was high to get your monies worth or add more color just because it seemed like it’s free?
To add fullness or the illusion of more hair you add subtle variations of color with balayagè and you create depth within the hair, therefore it looks like you have more hair than you do. It won’t work the same if you end up going cray cray because you want your auntie to see it, it won’t look the same and in fact will have the opposite effect.
We specialise in colouring hair and happy to chat about your options.
If you go to a supermarket to buy bread, the ones that’s about to go stale is always on sale, it’s discounted simply because it’s shelf life is shorter! There are two very obvious ways to look at discounts and that is product vs service. If you have a product and shop for the best price then you have very few problems that can go wrong, it’s the same product or brand you are just looking for the cheapest!
If you want to buy discount medicine the first question you would ask yourself ( or should be ) is this Medicean actually ok! Looking for a cheap doctor, one that can give you a great deal on your upcoming surgery? Makes no sense right, you wouldn’t want to get your surgery done during a “Happy Hour” or 50% off it’s simply crazy!
Similarly searching for the cheapest salon or a “deal” won’t get you want you need to be happy, it rarely does in fact it can end up costing you more money to fix your hair than it would have cost to get it done right in the first place!
Often salons advertise heavy discounts but by the time you leave you have ended up spending a lot more than you thought.
So for all those people wanting to know our price list, we don’t give quotes over the phone on colors bavasir it’s so subjective and we need to see your hair and talk face to face yo give you a ball park figure. Nothing more embarrassing than thinking it’s x but turns out to be xyz.
We encourage our clients to ask about price, it’s normal. Once you have had a chat with us ask the price, if you are happy to do it then we are good to go, if not it’s ok too.
We all are a little delusional and think we are the one in a million and our hair grows either faster or slower than anyone on the planet, reality is more likely it’s just normal. Some say 10-15 days some say every 6 months and yet the reality is very different!
To maintain the hairstyle you have you need a trim every 5-6 weeks, for guys who don’t want to look messy, ideally 4 weeks!
If your trying to grow it, 6-8 weeks to remove any split ends!
Once hair has left your body and visable it’s actually dead the growth happens inside your head not on the ends! A split end can end up reducing length but splitting and end up breaking off further up which looks terrible and will end up going shorter without cutting or feeling like it’s simply not growing.
So reality is regular trims are important and you need to do it no matter who you are!
DIY hair and YouTube’rs that claim they do hair is fun to watch and in some cases they do some cool hair, possibly even beautiful hair!
But it’s not something that you can learn in 5 minutes or a few tutorials which is highly edited and not relevant to everyone’s hair type. It can be an easy thing to miss judge your medium texture hair with someone else’s and not take into consideration yours is thicker, has been pre lightened and then coloured dark, hasn’t been cut in 6 months and has more damage than iPhone dropped from a roof of a 15 story building. No your hair is not basically the same, no you don’t understand why it is now breaking off in handfuls.
A bad color can literally burn your hair off at the roots! Have a weekend bender, that’s fun but don’t bring out sharp instruments or start colouring your hair because you watched a few videos.
Only trust professional hair salons, this is not a DIY job. Give us a call or drop in and have a free consultation
Now it may have seemed like a good idea at the time and let’s be honest, between Pinterest & Instagram it’s hard not to be tempted to go a tad OTT with hair color but it’s not as easy to remove it as you may think.
Unlike this mark which is a sign you have voted, hair color is a lot harder to remove and in some cases you simply can not!
Moral of the story, go out and vote today, research your hair color get some reference images of color you like then come have a chat to us.
Firstly let’s just admit it’s white hair not grey and that the darker you color your hair the faster you see the regrowth or ( white hair ).
The battle is real and the way to win is not for everyone, it becomes a challenge the more white hair that’s there and the darker you color it as to how quickly you need to “touch it up”. The way to help visually get the most time out of your color and not be so tied down to salon visits is fairly simple and we will help you.
The more coverage and darker you go the faster the regrowth, as we get older darker colors typically don’t look so natural and we should be aiming to take it slightly lighter than it was when there was no grey. So if you take it slightly lighter, do not go for 100% coverage more like 60% the regrowth won’t appear as fast, the hair will still grow at the same speed but you won’t notice the grey as quick.
Masking or smudging is what we call it and is a great way of getting longer out of your color and giving you more free time!
We have all been told at some point in our life that “our time will come” or “your time is up” but in fact time is simply a dial which you can physically move so it really has no importance or deadline anyway!
When is the right time to get things done, make a big career move, break up with a deadbeat partner, make a fitness plan, start that diet, quit smoking, stop drinking, start saving money and the list goes on! The right time won’t jump out and grab you, you have to grab it so if you have been putting something off or just plain lazy and haven’t started something then it’s the right time to get started! With the level of crazy that’s going on in the world, the growing disconnect between so many it’s important we make those small decisions without hesitation.
A few short weeks away it will be 2020 and while we can not turn back time we only have one chance to give life 100% so if you need a sign, this is it!
Get your haircut, get a fresh color, buy that dress, wear the loud lipstick and do whatever you want!
Going grey can for some be super dramatic and stressful and the darker your hair is the more you notice it! Often the first few isn’t much of a problem or concern but then slowly over time it’s a few dozen often at the most annoying and visible places. Now covering a few isn’t much drama or maintanence but once the regrowth becomes visible then it becomes problem every few weeks.
How can you fix it?
The easiest way to manage going grey is remembering as we get older our hair should also go slightly lighter. Now not saying we all need to be blonde but if you had black hair when you were 22 and now 45 possibly you shouldn’t still be thinking your hair is black. The darker you color your white hair and the more that there is the more you will notice it!
So if you want a low maintenance hair color and tired of visits to the salon every few weeks it’s maybe time to find out how we can help.
For those who have lived through seasons and craved fresh sunlight which gives a certain warmth you know what we mean when we say that warm afternoon autumn light. Sadly right now the sky is grey if not a dark shade of brown and there is no blue only in the way we feel.
Hopefully this isn’t going to last much longer and we get a glimpse of blue sky again but in the meantime it could be a sign to freshen up your hair color. Autumn balancing balayage is creating warmth by balancing out your existing color whilst still giving warmth but in variation.
If you have been putting your hair off then it’s time to get it done!
So it’s not cool to set off fireworks and pollute the planet and destroy the environment so what are you going to do?
Why not change your look? Doesn’t have to be dramatic, everyone is painting their house so why not a fresh look. If you want some inspiration here are some ideas from face framing color to a dramatic change!
Typically it starts with 1 or 2 and you just style it differently then 3,4,5 and before you know there is too many to hide. You may go for an overall color to cover it 100% as the regrowth won’t be that much. With 10-20% white hair the Maintainence isn’t going to be that high, however underneath your now coloured hair it’s continually becoming more white whilst you can’t see it, it is still happening.
Everyone’s tipping point is different and everyone’s version of high maintanence hair varies. If you have to get a color every 3-4 weeks then it is fairly high maintenance or if you have to plan your week around touch-ups then it maybe time to reassess your hair color!
The older we get the lighter your hair needs to be to look natural, you may have been born with dark ( almost black hair ) but now at 45 it’s not going to look natural with every single strand of hair exactly the same color.
How to look more natural?
Create variation in your hair color, can be simply leave the ends out and take them slightly lighter or it could be a subtle balayagè to create variation. Another way is to not take the base color so dark and also take the ends slightly lighter. The best way to have make a plan is to sit with your hairstylist and discuss it in depth prior to doing it.
Don’t do what you have always done just because you have always done it.
Well you can google it and most likely you will get the names of places that have paid to appear, not always but typically. So if it’s only another way to advertise and that’s not sad that’s just the way the internet works.
Since the begging of life we have shared things amoungst people that could be friends and at times strangers but when someone has direct experience it’s more trustworthy than a paid one liner!
No we don’t pay to appear anywhere, it’s not who we are or what we do, we create fans or happy campers that are our advertising. The better their hair looks and the better they can manage it the better our advertising works.
So before you start searching for the best, look around you and see what’s right there! It’s not always that far away
Grass is always greener or the hair is always ideal when it’s the opposite to what you already have right?
For those of you who have dark hair and always dreamed of having it white platinum blonde or ash grey, it can be done!
While anything is possible it all depends on your hair and the condition of it. There is no miracle color that can in one application get you white, it’s a process! The darker your hair the more gold pigment it has so it’s a process that requires patience and will irritate the scalp that’s just reality.
If your hair is healthy enough to be able to take the process then it’s possible, the process varies from person to person based on hair texture, density, current color, and condition so needs to be seen to give you an exact quote and can vary once we start depending on your hair. It’s not cheap in fact a lot say it’s expensive however the product time and expertise that is involved it is worth it to have hair you love!
Good to note that the lighter you go, the faster you see your natural hair grow out, the Maintainence is fairly simple but can involve using a toning shampoo and conditioner to maintain the perfect ash tone and keep the warmer tones from returning.
If you are interested in going white, platinum or ash blonde then drop in and have a chat to us, talk is free
Unless you’re 16 wanting to drink most people want to look slightly better than the best, it’s often small changes that make the biggest difference to your overall appearance. Obviously hairstyle plays a big part in that but so too does hair color! Often overlooked and treated more as a “hide the grey” type task v’s having it treated as part of the overall look to enhance the cut.
Colouring your hair doesn’t make it grey, it hides grey and while it’s covered in color, over time more grey appears and before you know what happened it’s gone from 5-6 grey hairs to 20-30-50% grey and your regrowth is now high Maintainence.
It’s not like it’s that much of a mystery let’s be honest, your age is kind of roughly known to everyone plus or minus a few years but 99.9% know your approx age so stop thinking they don’t. Also when you ask someone ” how old do I look” it’s actually polite to minus 5-10 years in your answer, no one is going to plus 5 years unless you really want to upset them.
So how can you create a better version of you?
The secret is to stop trying so hard and stop holding on to what you had rather make the most of what you actually have now! Enhance the current dont shame it. If it’s grey, add to it don’t hide it or make it black because when you were 17 you thought you had black hair!
If you want to get some individual advice on how not to look like a fake SOB then give us a call!
You must have seen the faceapp old photos making you instantly 30,40,50 years older and freaked out a little so here is an easy way to beat it!
A lot of the time it’s attitude so chill but it is also about changing things up, the older we get the less likely we are to change too much. It becomes more than a habit, it’s almost a belief that we are a certain way. It’s not and you should change things up from time to time to keep yourself interested in you! After all it’s refreshing when you do something new, you feel young!
Now while a little hose off might help, especially for some it may require a complete change of what you have been doing!
Often we can get in a rut, this is the way you have been doing things forever and that’s the way it is kind of attitude. Well sooner or later you need to let routine go and change, evolve. It doesn’t have to be scary or drastic, it can be slight changes over time to eventually give you a new look!
If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you already have!
Doesn’t matter if you are a boring CA, a mad DJ or a runway model we all need sexy hair or a variation of it. It’s a fact when you feel good it shows so why wouldn’t you owe it to yourself to make sure you feel the best you can!
Some people will say how can your hair make you feel sexy, these same people think food is food or a fake T–Shirt if it looks the same it is the same.

Yes the resolution of this meme isn’t good but then again either was your last attempt to go Platinum!
A lot of you beautiful people call or drop in and ask for platinum blonde like it’s in a box out back, it’s not.
To go blonde is one thing, to go white is a more complex task ( not impossible but not a 20-30 min job, nor is it a cheap thrill ). It can be done typically on Indian hair that is in good condition would require 2-3 sittings over a few days. We do this over a few days for a number of reasons, firstly to lighten your hair that much requires bleach which is fairly aggressive both on the scalp as well as the hair. As the hair is lightening the color molecule is shrinking and will expand over 24-48 hours so the color you get straight away will be more gold or yellow after a few days. We need to let the scalp PH level get back to normal before doing it again for s long lasting platinum color.
After 2-3 applications it’s then we tone the hair to the desired shade. Is it something you can rush? Well look at the photo above and if you think you know better, please go right ahead but in reality the answer is no you can’t. If you have had a lot of previous color then your hair may not even be able to take the process anyway.
Best to get an opinion or two from various salons before taking the risk.
There are times when an awesome color washes out faster than some of your Tinder dates last but there are some simple ways to help it stay longer. ( the color that is )
Now a permanent color only is as good as the condition of your hair generally so if your hair is shot to pieces ( aka destroyed ) you need to firstly work on that before thinking of changing things up too much. We have all seen someone’s ends dramatically faded a few weeks after a color, it’s because the hair condition is not good enough to hold color. The cuticle May be destroyed so much no matter what you do it simply won’t hold.
Here are a few things you can do to help yourself ( just like you need to do after that hook up )
Use Sulfate free shampoo – Sulfate is the detergent that can strip color!
Regular trims – removes split and damaged ends preventing split ends to travel up the hair shaft
Don’t over heat your hair – dehydrates it and causes split ends and melting of the hair nothing on this planet can fix!
Avoid too much sun, it bleeches the hair.
Avoid using any kind of oil, yes yes we said don’t use oil. It increases the heat of your hair and will dehydrate ( even if it’s only small deposits left after shampooing it )it not add anything to it! It may look shinny from the coating but will be rough.
Get yourself a clear gloss color over your color, it seals it in and helps dramatically hold the color!
Now if it’s still fading come see us and let’s work out why!
Your goal was mermaid hair or it could have been just a nice vibrant color either way it’s not going to last unless you look after it!
There are numerous reasons why your color might fade and here they are, they are all important and some colours just won’t last long even though you think you are doing everything right.
Shampoo is super important and if you are using a harsh shampoo then it will strip the color faster than you can get yourself a selfie. Use a Sulfate free shampoo!
Conditioner, yes girl you like it full, good for you but if you don’t close your cuticle then the color which you put inside the hair will wash out because the cuticle ( the outside later which gets closed by using conditioner ) is left open for the color to fade!
If your hair has been abused to the point it’s Brocken chances are no matter what you do the color simply won’t take let alone stay in.
If you are using an anti dandruff shampoo, kiss your color goodbye!
Over exposure to sun, salt water lightens the hair and removes color.
Too much excessive heat ( irons and over drying )
Using oil will cause the cuticle to expand damaging the strength ( sure it may make it look shinny) but will in turn cause the color to escape.
If your ends are split and you constantly don’t want to remove split ends chances are the color on the ends will fade faster than the rest!
Too much prior chemical treatments your cuticle will not have the strength to close and the color will fade.
So if you have taken the time and money to get a color then protect it so it looks good as long as possible.
First of all for any of you who can’t pronounce it, ( it’s belly aj ) it’s basically the art of free hand hair colouring so your not left with a high Maintainence color that needs doing every few weeks or months. It looks good and is low maintenance. You can do it in almost any color so it’s only left to your imagination and your hair!
We are the balayagè masters and have years of experience so relax if it’s possible we got you!
If it sound fun and you are ready to change your hair, give us a call!
Chances are, (unless you are living under a rock) you know what SLS or Sodium Laureth Sulfate is, if you don’t in lame terms it’s detergent. A lot of shampoo’s have it, washing detergent has it along with floor cleaner, car degreaser and the list goes on.
It creates the mass of bubbles, it also can remove the expensive color quicker than you expect!
While a Sulfate free shampoo will still bubble and clean it uses natural surfactants to cleanse that is more mild on hair and skin and will maintain your color and condition of hair and skin.
Flip the bottle over and read the ingredients to know more!
When you want to get a color, it’s always a trade off between what is hot and on trend as well as high Maintainence right? After all no one wants a color they need to redo every few weeks, that’s just not practical or cool!
The trick is using multiple tones to add the overall color, the use of varies shades adds depth and texture ( possibly the most over used word ). If it’s highlights you are looking for then using two different colours it changes the way it looks dramatically but yet keeps it low Maintainence. If you go for one color, chances are with less variation the natural hair will be visible faster.
With balayage you are best to keep it to one color and don’t go as light, it looks best when it’s more natural and as if it’s happened over time in the sun. Don’t get fooled by thinking more is better, less is best when colouring your hair typically.
It’s a fairly common request ” I want to be ash blonde” typically like it’s ordering a pizza with little understanding what’s involved or if it’s even possible. After all that’s our job so we are cool with it, but want to shed some light on the facts about it.
Now without getting overly technical the above photo is not on dark hair, the base color is lighter and has a slightly warmer tone, the highlights however are ash so the two combined give you what you are seeing not the individual “ash” color.
The darker you are the more gold/red pigment your hair has & will throw off when it’s lightened.
To get “ash” your hair must be lightened ( it doesn’t come out of a tube, it’s a process and not typically a short one either ) and to keep the hair in one piece would require 2-3 applications then toning. Sadly I have seen foils being done and irons or a hairdryer put over the foils to speed it up ( your hair will be fried, cuticle will snap off and I can guarantee it’s gold as your reading this. Bleaching hair you should not add heat, you can’t speed up the process! There is no short cuts only bad decisions and poorly educated people doing it or endorsing the wrong people.
So can it be ash on dark hair?
Yes but check out the photo above, you can see super light sections and some slightly gold right, that’s because it’s done over several sittings to get the hair light and keep it on your head.
Now whilst you think you may want ash, chances are even after you get it ( if it’s possible ) you will have upkeep you will need to do in order for it to stay the right tone!
Possible yes, easy no but possible and for those claiming you have ash, this is what ash actually looks like!
So if you have had a bad color, give us a call let’s see what we can do to get your hair instagram ready!
Thinking of a new color that doesn’t lock you into salon visits every few weeks? We love seeing you every couple of weeks but e also know its impractical on several fronts so Baliagé has to be the best way to get fresh and give you color without making you some visit us every few weeks, in fact you can get away with every 2-3 months!
Like most artistic services it depends a lot on the way it is done, its not a mix and apply type color and is reliant a lot on the skill level of the hairstylist so with this it is important that you do your research before taking the next step, check out our Instagram page and see if you think we have what it takes to give you the right look!
You all like something new right and you’re probly bored of having boring bland hair? Well if you’re not then maybe now we have mentioned it you will be.
Color blur is a technique of merging multiple colors together to shine on the curls to bring it to life. It’s fresh, it’s current and it is hot!
Now how do you get it and how is it done is our thing and so you don’t end up trying to DIY we will stop right here as this is a process only for the pro’s but let’s just all agree that this hair color is not only Instagram ready it’s possibly going to give your friends major hair envy!

A lot of confusion lately when it comes to various color techniques and then the lack of understanding of which color will best suit you so we are showing you some options so you can see the technique then decide on the color. Obviously the color can be changed and the intensity or amount of color can be adapted but this gives you an idea of the terminology.
This is Baliage, its freehand painting on the hair in selected sections that are specifically coloured and create a seamless smooth blending of color. Can be light or can be subtle, best to do 3-4 inches away from scalp and is easily maintained and doesn’t require much maintenance. Its our Favourite color technique right now as it gives you color without looking like you tried too hard!
This is highlight, shadow highlights give lightness and variation to specifics parts of the style to highlight certain areas, this is in the under layers to lighten up the face and create a fresh look!
This is Ombre, not for the faint hearted and is in your face, our guess is that it started with someone wanting to grow out the overall blonde color and simply could not be bother doing it so…Boom the trend started. The darker your hair the more extreme it can appear.
Dip Dye in pastel, yes as the name suggests it looks like you dropped the last 5-6 inches of your hair in a bucket of color.
So before you say you want XYZ make sure you have a proper conversation with your stylist and have a good understanding of the difference or you will likely be left with a look you didnt intend!
We met someone recently who shall remain nameless ( lets call her Sally lol )
She had gone to another Salon and had some “chunky” foils done, wanted to look a little edgy ( apparently ) and ended up looking like her hair had been chewed by a hungry rat that fell asleep halfway through its meal!
Now was the cut wrong, well technically no, it was the color that was creating the look which was, lets just say we had chest pain the entire time until we could fix it! Now if it was all the one length then this type of ” chunky ” color could be done and not look as bad ( although its circa 1990 and a little too Spice girls for our liking but hey its your hair right )
Word to the wise, if you want chunky color there is a way to have it without it looking like this, try a peekaboo type color in the bottom half which gets the color poking itself out in the bottom rather than doing this blocking highlights which is not only not cool on the eye but also high maintenance.
For anyone who has been to Australia you will know that they love their coffee like sometimes more than there family, its important! So when we say drop in for a coffee its not a causal pre mix type coffee its a proper coffee so you should not take it lightly.
Many plans are brewed over coffee and hair can be one of them, worst case scenario you have a good chat and a nice coffee.
So next time your thinking about your next move with your hair, drop in and have a chat with us and lets plan this!
We kind of think of ourselves as different, in fact we are and we know it, now its not one particular thing that we can say is dramatically different from everyone else although a lot of small things that amount to a lot. Now recently we had someone come in and we would not name anyone however when something happened its good to talk about it as we are sure there may be others out there that feel the same so here goes! ( if you have anxiety please take your meds now, this could cause you to feel like throwing your computer out the window! )
Now Mrs X comes in wanting color, we like to talk to people to find out whats going on in their head before we do anything, be it a color or a cut, we have to know what why and when etc in order to be able to exceed expectations we firstly have to know what expectations you have right?
So when someone comes in and says they want a ” good color ” and something that is natural but everyone should notice it, we tend to know something is not right.
MrsX- Should be lighter but not too light, natural but at least 5-6 shades lighter and I don’t want it to touch my scalp, please leave out 1 inch of the roots.
US-After the severe head pain started we decided to stop the conversation and start a fresh to no avail, showing pictures of light copper hair when her hair was almost black and saying that she wanted something natural like this……. ( I needed a drink at this point ) OK so here is the problem, why are you wanting to color your hair, the answer was everyone is doing it, ok so thats good but do you want to go lighter?
Mrs X- Yes lighter but not too much lighter, little lighter, should be good color, natural, but everyone should notice it, I don’t want to look cheap or gold and don’t put close to my scalp because I know colouring your hair makes it go grey! I did my research ok I know! You tell me what to do and I will do it, make it good
US- Well at this point the drink went from a small to a double and the pain had traveled from the front of my head to the entire head and moving towards every atom in my body at a rapid rate. We decided to try and start again ( for the third time now ) Your hair won’t go grey from colouring it BTW that is a myth and there is absolutely no fact behind it.
Mrs X- I know ok please don’t tell me this, my auntie told me and I also read it on internet so its true, so whatever you do it should not touch my scalp at all, I don’t want grey!
Us- Deep breaths, does that work, would it be ok to like go outside and just throw something? kinda at this point but no we didn’t. We started again, ok lets put all of this aside ad have a look at some photos, we did…. all of which looked completely the opposite to what she was saying, Then showing some violet colours amongst light copper and dark brown.
The problem here is no matter what you do it will never make you happy, its our job to direct you into doing something that you will love, but in order to do that we must firstly know what is going on in your mind, You can’t walk into a restaurant hoping to have the best meal of your life, ask the waiter to send you the nice food, the best food you have and think that its going to be exactly what you have been dreaming about. Maybe it will be, maybe it won’t, maybe it will be his opinion based on what others order and have no boxes ticked for you other than just food!
In these situations we get another hairstylist to talk to them ( sometimes its just a simple matter of personalities or maybe language ) so we did, well that hairdresser couldn’t handle it and told Mrs X that everything she said was contradicting itself and he had no idea what she wanted.
Solution, we send her away with homework, do some research and put some thought into what color you are after, save some images from Pinterest, get onto instagram and send us the photos of hair you like as well as the ones you don’t like so we can then move forward. Its setting yourself up for success and to be happy vs getting something done thinking that whatever you do is going to be ok, its not.
Now a lot of salons won’t do this ( its not a common situation, in fact its rare that this level of confusion happens) but when it does should a salon just color it and take the clients money knowing that what they are asking for is so wrong and that she probably won’t be happy? Well we think its better to say no, we think its better to get a clear picture of what is expected, a clear vision of what makes you happy, a clear plan and then move forward.
Mrs X is coming back in a few days with images and we will be approaching her with love, peace and openness along with our medication in hand in case things go south! Wish us luck!
It’s not just us, it’s a saying and let’s be honest there has to be a reason and we are here to explain it in the easiest way we know how so listen up!
Actually it’s more like gold, not the expensive one more like the imitation one. When your hair is dark it has the most red ( warm ) pigment, more than light brown hair. When you think about the color off your dreams is it yellow or gold? I doubt it, no one intentionally wants to look that bad 🙊
The problem is when your color is being done, it has been not lightened enough, the gold pigment needs to be removed in this process or no matter what you do it will show it’s ugly head if not immediately or in a week or so.
Now the second biggest issue is how the end result is finished off, if it’s toned again with a light color ( because the hairstylist just realised it wasn’t light enough and trying to fix it the wrong way)
Without getting into the technicalities of hair coloring understand a toner the way a lot of salons do then are a permanent color so by putting it on your entire head with lighten it all up making the hair that wants coloured gold and yellow.
Now this is not the only reason but considering the amount of people we see it’s the cause in 95% of the cases.
Don’t risk it and only trust a professional salon. There is a reason we are named the best colorists in India
How can you lighten your hair ethically and keep the condition in check is a question most people struggle with the answer. The reality is if you are prepared to be patient then it’s possible but if you want to step out of work on a Friday night at 5 with black hair and walk back in Monday a soft beachy blonde then you are dillusional.
Now no matter what you have been told about additives that help maintain the integrity of the hair, there is still limitations you can not buy yourself out of. Hair is non descriminational nor does it care, the structure and it’s strength are the only thing that will get you blonde and keep the tone nothing else.
If you have been colouring it black since you saw your first grey hair and woke up and realised it looks fake ( about time ) then the transition from black to blonde will take you some time. By ” some time ” we are not meaning between 1-3pm on the Saturday after you wake up. It requires several sittings over several days or weeks depending on the way your hair reacts.
The reality is whatever has gone on your hair will effect the process and the result and no amount of wishing will change it. We get asked if heat can be added because some salons add heat to speed it up.
When you add heat like this, it may speed it up however it swells the hair shaft and causes more damage as well as a result effected by the swelling of the hair, which in the days after the color will change.
We suggest a in depth consultation about your desired goal and reality in result as well as timing . Once we have discussed possible results and we are all happy, then we proceed.

For guys it’s a very common request, George Clooney’s grey hair and from the ladies it’s either just remove the black color I want to go natural or I want ash grey hair. So what the hell is the right info and what do you need to do?
We sat Rod down handed him a coffee and asked him.
This is what he told us
For guys the reality is if you want the color like George Clooney you have to wait, pray and see if it happens naturally coloring it like this won’t happen ever! You can get an overall grey but will be every strand of hair the same color not a natural effect.
For the girls, firstly you can not use a special product and remove the coloured hair from your head, leaving it natural again once it’s coloured it’s coloured. Only solution is bleaching it however that doesn’t make it natural it only makes it all bleached and besides that may not get the desired level if it’s got multiple layers of color.
Want coloured ash grey hair? This can be done but takes time & money to do it right and maintain it. If your hair has color in it, you will struggle to remove it and you may end up with a brassy result that needs more work to remove but possible.
For more visit our Salon and talk with the team on your exact color dream!

Your hair has been as dark as the night since the day you were born and like all things grass is always greener on the other side of the fence and you want to be blonde!
Well you’re right, anything is possible after all Kim Kardashian did it so why not you right?
It can be done but there are a few things you should know before taking the plunge.
It is a lengthy process, certainly not a ” lunchbreak” kind of color. Depending on how your hair reacts and what we start with can take 6-8 hours or even 6-8 hours over 2-3 days. Yes it’s a process
Maintainence is little you really need to use a toning shampoo and conditioner. This helps maintain the tone as it can go brassy ( yellow/gold ) over the coming weeks.
If your hair has been coloured then even if the current result it looks the same from roots to ends bleaching over it can cause a lot of damage.
Regrowth, well depending on how dark you are but if your going blonde then even light brown looks black as it’s growing out. Expect a trip to the salon every 2-3 weeks for the regrowth. This won’t be as time consuming but still not a quick trip.
If all that hasn’t put you off then it’s time to go blonde I guess!
You want a color but you don’t want people to know it’s coloured?
Well yes there is a way it can be done and no one will know but you have to be ready for natural and the possibility bo one will comment specifically. One of the problems we find when colouring back to natural using our technique of variation infusion is no one will see it.
I suppose that’s the point tho isn’t it?
Well it is but after spending a few hours in the salon amd some hard earned money we all hope at least one person comments right? Correct we do, well they will but they won’t know what is different because it’s not about a screaming color that is in your face, it’s about a combination of colors that being out the best in your own hair.
How we do it!
We use a base shade that is slightly lighter than your own ( depending on course the entire base and the look your aiming for )
Adding in 3-4 variations of your goal color, some warm, some cool we place variation lights throughout your hair. This process adds a natural shimmer that is not visible yet gives a completely natural look.
It’s fresh, easy to maintain, lasts longer than your normal color and is not as damaging as putting one solid color all the way through, so I guess the question back to you is when do you want to come in?
You think you stand out because well, you’re just awesome but the reality is no one can see it. Your color blends into the walls and at night you are invisible. The only time anyone can see awesome is your dance moves and by that stage of the night everyone is looking cool!
Well here are some birds 🐦 that take color very seriously 24/7 and know how to maintain it!
So let’s just say now you could step things up a bit no? Well if you’re ready then get on the phone and give us a call.
You grew up thinking you had black hair, everyone told you it’s black, it looks black, chances are it’s not.
When your colouring your hair to appear natural going with the color you were when you were 5,10 or even 15 is wrong. As we get older our hair changes color so whilst you may have been dark brown at 10 your 35 with some white hairs chances are it’s brown!
If you’re colouring your hair to cover the grey here are a few things to help get the best out of the time and longevity of the process.
Always go 1/2 to 1 shade lighter than your natural color
Add variation, a few highlights gives variation and therefore breaks up regrowth, giving you longer between colors.
Don’t color the ends, ever! The ends should be lighter than the roots.
Use a sulfate free shampoo and always conditioner.
Try to add a variation each visit, shade change or add some fun to eliminate boredom.
If you can manage a few of the above, you’re chances of having a color people comment on in a good way are far greater!
You may have grown up eating meat and two veg type food ( boring and a little basic ) or in India Dhal & rice. That doesn’t mean that there are not more options out there, because there are endless possibilities.
Just like your wardrobe, although obviously any hairdresser will typically lean towards black, hair color options are far greater that a base color and a few highlights. It’s your blank canvas that expresses who you are and your personality.
You don’t have to be outrageous or OTT it just has to be an extension of your personality.
Why wait, give your hair salon a call and give your hair some color!
It’s true, at times life can go through ups and downs, times when everything is exciting and times when you fall asleep brushing your teeth. What is important that you don’t get “bored” with life rather the situation and spend all your energy to get out of that spot. Sure a quick thrill never hurt anyone but if you have seen it before it gets old, it’s the delivery that can change.
So why on earth are we talking about flashers? Well people, we need to make sure we don’t get into a rut with out hair & look. It’s really easy once you have hair that works not to change it but often we go back to what we know vs doing something that is different.
What we need to remember is that people tend not to see your internal changes, often saying “I know you” for the last 10 years yet you have changed so much yet you may look and sound the same. If you look the same, chances are people will see you the same. It’s important to develop your look as well as your personality to make sure life is turning.
By default we have become the Creators of colors and the go too salon to fix disasters. With the huge amount of variation of colors we do it’s a breaking ground for being creative and having a full understanding about color.
If you have had a disaster or not in love with your color then it’s time you came in and let us check it out. We are not here to judge, simply listen and offer suggestions.
Color is such an amazing tool and gift and daily we take for granted. With hair the options are literally endless and just like any art, takes skill, practise and education in order to be able to understand and deliver colors that pop to colors that last.
We all know what blue, red, green and yellow yet we all can not paint right? We may know what looks good but don’t know what it is or how to describe it or replicate it.
Knowing color is and truly understanding it is learnt over years with hair, it is not a text book kind of learning rather a true understanding of what colors will work with what colors, undertones and the effect of hue and saturation. Then there is lightening and corrective color ( for those who continually do DIY or discount )
Vogue India named Rod the best colourist in India for a reason, come experience why.
Kind of an obvious observation but kind of needs to be said too, this is hair for sale, it’s a product.
When you go to a salon, your getting your hair done, it’s a service.
Service revolves around the delivery of the service whilst a product is just a product, the brand may change but the product remains the same.
Some salons sell services like they are a product yet when you go to a salon the fundamental thing your getting done is service, it’s quality depends on the people delivering it. If the people are not right then the service is bad and then the end result product. We are not a product, although we sell product we are about hair.
We are a service based salon, we aim to deliver the best every time!
So second time around veteran of color Awoka went steel grey and it’s looking awesome!
It’s become a color high in demand so we wanted to share a few things with you so you can make the right decision if this is for you or just a phase. Although nothing is permanent, it grows out and if you wait long enough you may just end up totally grey anyway right so what’s stopping you! What’s involved and can I do it myself at home?
That’s kind of like asking a chef give me the recipe I want to make this at home right?! Even if we gave you a step by step it’s hardly something that years of training would could match up too that’s why it’s always a better result to get it done professionally.
Firstly it needs to be lightened to the most pale white blonde and depending on the exact shade of the result toned to give the final result. Now blonde colors are endless, rose blonde, Sandy blonde, ash blonde, Snow White, ash blonde, dirty blonde and the lost could go on and on hence it is completely subjective.
If your thinking about going dramatic we suggest seeking professional advice, whilst it’s not cheap, to get even close to what your heart wants requires patience and skill, often several applications of color and change of plans depending on the results in real time.
How do you keep it this time?
Now here is the interesting part considering the water quality varies in every part of the world the tone can fade fairly fast so you need to take proper care. Use a sulfate free shampoo, always condition. A toning shampoo ( purple which counteracts the gold or yellow pigments ) can be used every second day to keep it perfect. Get the right advice and always get the hairstylist to show your there work before you take the plunge!
Products we use and recommend are Alfa Parf Milano!
Yep it’s getting hotter everyday and it’s only a matter of time before temperatures reach 40+ daily for the next 4-5 months!
Is your hair ready to get through this?
Most likely it’s not let’s be honest, it’s like knowing your off on holidays and you need to pack, you know you do forcwwwks in advance but end up shoving crap into your bag moments before heading to the airport. So what can you do to get your hair ready?
Think trim every 6 weeks, let’s start now.
Linseed treatments by Alfa Parf, yes they work, every 6-8 weeks to rehydrate the hair. It’s not a fluffy head massage like the hair spa your used too but it actually works so totally worth it.
Plan colors in advance so your not overdoing it.
Get your irons out, if they are more than 12 months old time to invest in new ones ( technology changes fast and improvements have been made every few months )
