Doesn’t seem that long ago for a lot of us there were a handful of TV stations all playing much the same nonsense at set times and we were happy or content with it! We would watch it and religiously follow it, watch tv ads buy into whatever was being sold and that was that.
Now our brains crave stimulation 24/7 and often after a few episodes or seasons we ditch a show just because it’s predictable and just boring. We want constant fresh content, hot today and cold tomorrow!
Just like that we now need to think of hair the same way, just because you have it today doesn’t mean it needs to be like that tomorrow, day after and day after, it’s boring!
It seems like only a moment ago everyone was wanting curly hair but now it’s all about the wave!
Creating waves once you have the hang of it, is easy and there is enough YouTube videos to keep you in front of the laptop for the next few days or weeks.
There are a few things to keep in mind to get the right waves!
Use a tapered iron or rod, these are best because it creates a tapered curl
Prep the hair the right way, if you are after super sleek waves then you need to have your hair dry sleek and sectioning will need to be neat!
Use a sea salt spray to give it a little hold, it’s typically not too firm and you will still be able to get your hands through it. If you are after a sleek wave that doesn’t move, use a little spray on each section after you do it ( little and from a distance )
Alternate the direction of the curls with each row keeping the front area around your face wound back off your face.
Once complete, don’t shake it but either run your fingers all through in every direction for a natural finish.
If you are after a sleek finish then brush it out section by section starting from the bottom getting each section to merge into the previous and spray.
Now if you have shorter hair then you can do it the same way but on wet hair, secure with clips a light spray and wait till it’s dry take clips out and gently brush or comb into place.
If you have heard of beach waves chances are you asked for them at one stage or another and possibly the look was I point. As the name suggests your hair changes in texture when around the ocean sea air, the salt content adds texture and encourages hair to move and hence the loose wave effect.
Don’t be fooled, it’s not curl it’s a loose slightly random wave.
The entire idea of this look is that it’s not super neat, if you get it done and brush it out….. it’s not beach waves.
If you haven’t tried it yet then it’s about time you came to the salon that do it daily, we know how it’s done and are experts at it.

It’s true, at times life can go through ups and downs, times when everything is exciting and times when you fall asleep brushing your teeth. What is important that you don’t get “bored” with life rather the situation and spend all your energy to get out of that spot. Sure a quick thrill never hurt anyone but if you have seen it before it gets old, it’s the delivery that can change.
So why on earth are we talking about flashers? Well people, we need to make sure we don’t get into a rut with out hair & look. It’s really easy once you have hair that works not to change it but often we go back to what we know vs doing something that is different.
What we need to remember is that people tend not to see your internal changes, often saying “I know you” for the last 10 years yet you have changed so much yet you may look and sound the same. If you look the same, chances are people will see you the same. It’s important to develop your look as well as your personality to make sure life is turning.

Now understand the difference between beach waves & Beach curl is beach waves are typically constructed ( styled that way ) vs beach curl which is more about creating or enhancing the natural movement ( or texture as so many want to call it ).
Now both are great styles to use Sea Salt spray on without booking a trip to an island beach here goes
How to use it the best
A few pumps at roots and a few pumps throughout the hair when it’s fairly damp
If you want it messy spray don’t comb and let it dry naturally
For beach waves apply the same and style
Our favourite product & the one we use is Label M Sea Salt
So you think that leaving your hair dry naturally is better than using a dryer well let us explain why its not
Although some stylists often recommend sleeping in damp braids to get beachy waves, turns out air-drying may be more harmful than blow-drying: Water causes strands to swell; over time, this could weaken hair from the inside out. In the study, hair samples that were shampooed and then air-dried for two hours were compared to those blasted at various temperatures. Only the air-dried samples had significant damage to the cell membrane complex, the cement that holds cuticle layers together. That’s not to say that dryers can be used without harm: As the temperature of the air increased, the study found, so did the damage to the outer layers of each strand. The healthiest option, if not the speediest, is to dry on the lowest heat setting, with the dryer held at least six inches away from the head.
So instead of trying the easy braid on wet hair and trying to get it overnight, maybe its time to learn how to do it with a hairdryer and a large curling iron.
I call it ” rough enough is good enough” hairstyling. We rarely post country specific content but after seeing the Standard of “beach waves” to a simple Top Knot recently we feel the need to show you the difference, doing hair for editorials or shoots are a privelige that is typically earnt and not just a job, they tend to be chosen through budget constraints or even more sadly based on friendship. Stylists don’t see the difference between sleek and messy further than the looks that were relevant in the 90’s and think hair is like choosing the lunch menu and barely care how it will look since they hope the overall styling will out shine the crappy hair. No, this is not a attack rather a frustration that the Only way the overall imagery will grow and develop is if the right people are either chosen or at least trained.
Producing beautiful images is a team effort and hairstylists are an important part of the process that can now not be overlooked, can turn your $5,000 shoot from backpage to cover easily.

The version of beach waves achieved!
This is the result!
Let’s look at soft waves
As an Industry let us try to set ourselves apart and become better! If you are a brand then you need to address the hair you want in your editorial rather than only adding it to your conversation on the day of the shoot.
If your a stylist, know the difference and know who is capable of doing it and who isn’t, the overall image is your work so make sure you stand out!
If your a photographer, well hopefully you already agree and have the right people to work with.
