How to avoid a Holi hair disaster

Holi is a festival that celebrates life and all the color in it! Yes it can be invasive to say the least, if you are all dressed up, hair done and head on then expect some random person to think its ok to throw coloured powder or water on you regardlessly!

Now whilst if you choose to play this game, or celebrate it could be fun however if you have just had your hair done it can be a disaster that will take weeks or months to fix or it may not even be able to be!

Now a lot reading this will say there are safe colors, ones that wash out easily and yet even after experiencing this time for the last 10 years have never seen them in action. The vast majority are not designed for light hair, so whilst it may be “natural” it may still permanently stain your Sandy blonde hair pink! The reality is the lighter your hair the more the staining will occur, so yes if you have black or dark hair you will not see the pink powder in your hair only maybe on your skin for a few days until you scrub it off!

Holi colored powder sticks to pre lightened hair regardless of it being natural and can be incredibly hair to remove!

Imagine you have spent good money getting your color done and a few hours in the Salon and finally your loving your hair only to get it ruined by a random stranger throwing coloured powder on you? How can you prevent it?

Reality would be to stay inside but if thats not an option we suggest the following

• Don’t wash your hair for 2 days prior

• Load up your hair with a wax or paste before heading out, this will help give it a slight protection

• Cover with a scarf and tie it tightly, making sure that the ends are undercover also

• Hairspray over it will also prevent staining to some extent

All of this is not 100% however it may help somewhat but obviously being out of that situation is better than anything listed here!

After the day is over and you are back home, use a clarifying shampoo on DAMP hair not wet, wash it 3 times to remove the color and condition.

Obviously it would be a great thing if people respected other people and did not throw random color on people, however until then being cautious is always better!

If you have been stained and its risking ruining your mojo then give us a call and lets have a look at it to see what can be done!
