With everyone being scared and anxious on stepping outside we all are looking for options on how to live life, it’s reality. Calling someone home to get things done seems safe but is it actually safer than leaving your house?
Would you order food from a cloud kitchen or someone’s house where the possible protocols are not followed vs buying it from a restaurant in which they are trained to ensure safety? Or a Restaurant where cleanliness is trained daily
Everyone has a different opinion but we feel being in a controlled environment where everything is monitored is safer than risking various degrees of “clean & safe”. Now whilst everyone says there house is clean, sanitation is done the best yet everyone’s version of safe and clean is completely different. I know people who will not even open the front door and others who have people over every night, both are clean but both have very different versions of being safe. By getting someone into your house that may have been to others homes is basically putting you in the same position as the least careful person that they have been in contact with.
It’s not how clean and careful your house is ( we are sure it is clean ) it’s about having the environment that is controlled. Having a space that daily has protocols before and after someone’s leaves with a group of people that are trained and have a system to sanitize correctly is safer than when a visitor is less frequent.
It’s not your house, it’s the one before and the one before that which should concern us.
This is not meant to be scare tactics, simply opening thought as to which is safer. We have set out our safety protocols and ensure the area is sanitised before and after every guest. With one person at a time and restricting entry we have maintained an environment that is safe.
We all know someone who says they never blow dry their hair and yet it always looks awesome how? Is it a skill that is taught to few and a mystery to the masses or is it so obvious that no one tries it?
Could it be that a few small tricks and doing less is actually the answer? Keep reading!
Now let’s get one thing straight, you can’t get a haircut once every 6 months and expect your hair to sit the way you want it’s unrealistic it needs to be trimmed every 6/8 weeks to remove dehydrated ends and to prevent split ends. So the foundation is regular trims!
Secondly it’s product, you can use different things for different hair and the needs change depending on the hair. Let’s just put a few products in the basket for you and you can try what you have and see what works and what doesn’t.
A serum, this closes the cuticle and prevents frizz ( don’t use anything too heavy and must be water soluble)
A leave in conditioner which adds moisture, 5-6 sprays throughout.
A sea salt spray, adds strength to the curl and helps it retain its shape.
Now the hard part! After gently applying all these products and ensuring you are not tossing it around, you need to do NOTHING but wait!
Everytime you touch, flip or move it you are encouraging frizz so just don’t touch it, sitting in non direct sunlight and not with direct air facing you ( not in the car with the aircon on full facing you either!) Just wait!
Your curl will be defined and more crisp. Now you know the basics it’s up to you how you adapt it, every head of hair is different and may need more or less of the above. Remember the more you touch it the more frizz will appear!
We all think through the process of visiting anywhere now, what will it be like, who will be there, will random people enter the space. Will I get a park close by etc etc. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to call or drop us a DM as we know how stepping out gives us all the creeps.
No car parking attendants, no one asking for your keys and direct access so close to the salon within feet of your car it’s almost a drive thru!
No secret that 2020 has had its challenges and if we are honest Hair isn’t the worst thing that has or could have happened. But now it’s become aware that some instead of growing length, it’s reducing. We have in the last few months seen more amount of hair than ever, some going from long to short, dramatic changes and some holding on to death life the length they have.
Split ends happen for a few reasons, excessive heat when styling, over processed chemical treatments, blunt scissors when you last had it cut, lack of regular trims.
The ends split as the centre hair structure is left exposed and is prone to being damaged over time. If it’s regularly trimmed then any fragile ends are removed and giving it a fresh lease of life!
Can you remove split ends with product? NO
The only thing that removes a split end is a pair of scissors, your hair should be trimmed regardless of what your hair goal is, every 6-8 weeks. If not you could end up with multiple splits which will eventually break off and you will end up loosing length not gaining it. The split keeps travelling up the hair shaft until it breaks off, then a new one appears and so you end up with shorter hair over time!
Long before we had restrictions and salons were open everyday you could go get a blowout regardless of the situation without thinking twice. Now we have to mentally plan our every move.
For those with curly hair, who have had a love hate relationship since childhood it’s been a time to stop and fall in love with it all over again. Curly hair can be naughty, miss behave just the moment you want it to act normal it decides to act up. It has a mind of it’s own. There is no sure way to make it do what you want but you can have more firmed crisp and structured curls with a little know how and some practise. There is no reason why your curls isn’t a positive!
There isn’t a “one size fits all approach” to which products to use or how to use them, but there is a general direction we can help you take that may help you a lot!
So many people still flip and fling their hair around like it’s a whip and a rodeo and those people need to stop! The more you move it the more frizz and unruly it will become. Here is how things should go from the minute before you get out of the shower.
Once you have shampooed rinse and squeeze out excess moisture apply conditioner to the length and GENTLY work through, gradually using a wide tooth comb to selectively remove the knots from the ends working up to the roots. Gently rinse, do this well and avoid rigorously moving the hair too much, keeping it flat. Finish up in the shower squeeze the excess moisture out of your hair and step out. Using a towel gently squeeze excess moisture from your hair ( DO NOT RUB!)
Now given that every head of hair is different but curly hair craves moisture so use a serum to close the cuticle, a leave in moisturiser and possibly a curl cream or additional moisture creme or a sea salt spray for hair that’s a little finer and lacks the strength in the curl.
You can try to speed up the drying process but the minute you do, frizz will appear and the definition will go for a toss!
Remember while it’s drying any movement needs to be limited and gentle, like super gentle.
Try it and let us know how you went, remember that you may need to get a fresh cut which will help with the ends if it’s split or damaged
You have become by default a home body but unless you are overlooking the Ocean chances are you are missing out and may need to get out of the house safely for a small dose of real life. Imagine how productive you will be with a little more motivation?
If you want to get out and make yourself feel like a new person, give us a call and get yourself fresh hair!
It’s a fact that this time of year the Frizz is at its worse so firstly chill out! But one of the major factors that cause frizz is the way you treat your hair, the majority of the frizz can be controlled simply by controlling how you handle it.
Habits that you have had may be wrong, so it’s time to break it down hopefully to make your life easier and not end up walking around like a frizz ball.
Putting your hair up wrapped in a towel may be practical and look sexy but it creates frizz, your hair twisted and tied up will make it frizzy!
Instead after you have put your products in, pat dry and try not to disturb it much at all. When you have the conditioner in, use a wide tooth comb and comb it through. After you have rinsed it don’t over handle the hair much at all.
Drying your hair upside down to get the fullness or shaking it out is also a NO NO as it will create frizz
Every movement you do with your hair needs to be gentle and slow, flipping hair around is inviting it to misbehave and go frizzy. If you can use an old TShirt pat dry the excess moisture go about doing whatever it is you need to do then gentle remove.
Small gentle movements without the drama of flicking your hair side to side will put you in the best chance of less frizz
Put your hand up if you baked Banana Bread in 2020 🙋🏼♂️ keep them up if you worked out online 🙋🏼♂️ get comfortable because keep them there if you grew tomatoes 🍅 🙋🏼♂️ So by now we all think we can DIY almost everything because we had too and some things we can do better. I must say our home made carrot cake is the best I’ve ever had!
But when it comes to doing your own hair color or cut it’s just not the same because even if you have the 35 min video open of “ How to cut hair like a pro in less than an hour” you most likely can’t condense years of practical experience in a 35 min video.
The need of the hour earlier was DIY because there wasn’t options plus no one was looking at you. Now it’s slightly different and you have access to salons. The salon open so you don’t have to worry about helping yourself.
We all know someone that when asked what they feel like to eat they reply with “ anything” yet they don’t mean anything. Describing a mood or a color is not always the easiest task. You want to feel relaxed but not so relaxed your almost sleeping, you want it blue but not bright blue.
To be able to achieve the goal color for your hair it involves a conversation that requires some in-depth Q&A about exactly what you have in your mind. Now obviously the best thing to do would be to have some reference images to help you and we would always suggest 2-3 images of your ideal color.
Saying you want a powerful blonde means different blonde depending on who you ask. Similarly if you say short to someone with a shaved head the image in the mind will be different to than if you ask someone with hair halfway down their back.
If you say pink to someone, any of these could be passed as being pink!
All completely different colors but yet the same.
We believe that there is an image in your mind as to what color you want your hair, the perfect color. It’s our job to get that image out and the plan how to achieve it. It’s not the name you call the color we are interested in, it’s your image of that color we need to find.
Consultations are the key to a successful salon visit no matter what. If there are no questions being asked, chances are one of you is in for a surprise!
A lot walk out of the salon after spending hours to get your hair done with a color that is awesome only to have it wash out and look dull or tired shortly after. There are several reasons why your color May be fading out let’s talk.
Color needs a healthy hair in order to hold true to what it should be. If you imagine the cuticle ( the outside layer of your hair ) is like the doors in your house. If it’s not closed then nothing will stay inside, it gets closed when you condition it, when the condition of your hair is healthy and chemically hasn’t been compromised much at all.
Now whilst coloring your hair is a chemical it can be done whilst keeping the health of your hair in tact.
Don’t so extremes, one month you go dark, next month you want to go lighter then you decide red is your color and the following month you want ash blonde. Guess what, firstly it’s not going to happen but even if you get close the chances your hair is going to hold color is slim! The more damage your hair goes through the less it will hold color.
Use a sulfate free shampoo, you have heard us saying it repeating the same song for years but it works. Always condition your hair, this closes the cuticle. Regular trims to remove split ends which will cause hair to become brittle and split.
Remember the better the condition the better the chances your color will hold. Products like leave in serums are good as long as they are water soluble.
If you can’t get it to hold then it may be time to stop what you are doing and book yourself in for a consultation with us.
