Looking for a blow?

Well it’s already practically September and it’s been anything but a normal year for all of us. Nothing is what it was no matter how hard we try it’s just not.

Now we reopened after being closed for 11 weeks and want to make sure that not only us are safe but also you, with all of the suggested safety measures in place we added one more which has been adopted in other countries.

With every part of the salon operational ( bar your cuppacino ) we chose not to do blow drying for a very good reason.

Air is pushed and sucked all around your face, our face and all through the salon, ( and we know it’s remote ) we do not want to risk any element of your visit for a simple blow dry. Sure it may be revealed later that we were wrong but it’s better to be safe than sorry and am sure at the end of the day you and your families feel the same.

Now we have heard some saying it’s not the same, well it’s not but what we do know is that the cut or the color is the most important factor and with using our super absorbent disposable towel we manage to get 85-95% of the moisture out of your hair. Structurally your haircut is done in such a way that it will hold its own with or without a blow dry so you can relax knowing that it has the ease of styling in its foundation.

We look forward to giving you a blow once things settle down and they will in time.

How long will it last?

For some it’s 14 days for others it may be 22 days yet for the majority it’s in the 5th week after visiting the salon that they notice it needs attention.

To maintain the shape of your style you need to be trimming it every 6-8 weeks, for guys it’s 5 weeks as typically the hair is shorter so it’s more obvious that it is getting out of shape slightly faster!

If you are growing your hair you still need to trim it every 6-8 weeks also but obviously trim less than has grown to make sure and damaged ends are removed and the hair looks it’s best!

Haircare tips for Men

We see a lot of guys asking about hair are and how to maintain their look and get healthy hair we thought it best to put all the information in the one place for you. Looking after your hair daily between salon visits means you have a consistent look.

Healthy Diet is KEY

Healthy habits often take time to get into and it can be hard to break the old cycle of neglect but once you convince yourself it’s consistency that is paramount to actually becoming healthy inside and out!

We all stress and this is not men more than woman or me more than you and it has no bearing on who you are, where you live or what you do. It happens inside your head. It’s important to control the little voice inside your head that fills your mind with anything negative. Switch off, focus on positives because there are so many right in front of you, it’s a matter of seeing it!

Now here are a few tips you can use that work!

Regular shampoo, some some twice a week some say 3 times it’s so confusing but look and think of it like this. Sitting at home and not doing any exercise then every second day is fine. If you perspire then you need to shampoo your hair and scalp or the residue left after it dries on your scalp will cause bacteria and effect your scalp PH Level

Condition your hair every time you shampoo, it closes the cuticle, reduces moisture is trapped inside the hair and keeps it looking shinny!

Healthy diet!

There are 5 food groups regardless if you are a vegetarian or not make sure you cover your bases to ensure your body has the right amount of fuel.

Enough sleep

Now for some people 12 hours would leave them feeling like they still need another 2-3 hours for others it’s 4 hours is enough but realistically your body needs 7-8 hours a day. Typically men need Less than woman as a woman’s body goes through more than guys.

Now when it comes to salon visits to maintain healthy hair you should be trimming it every 5 weeks to remove any damaged ends. Your hair is actually dead keratin and the condition is a direct reflection of both how you treat it externally as well as what you are feeding the roots from within.

Heat styling or use of product has little effect on your hair unless you don’t wash it out or over style your hair daily. If you put product on it, at night shampoo it out so as not to alter the PH ecosystem of your scalp.

We always suggest a Sulphate free shampoo

Can woman shave their head?

The easy answer is an obvious YES! In fact a lot of the time the results are STUNNING!

Any preconceived notion you have about boys should have short hair and girls should have long hair, is outdated and wrong! In fact short hair on woman screams confidence, self assured and a no nonsense personality. Let’s check some out!

WHEN YOUR TOPKNOT LOOKS MORE LIKE A BIRDS NEST

The need to have a wash and wear look has never been more apparent but it seems like some are struggling with the simple TOPKNOT more than others.

The trick is not to aim for the stars, apply some dry shampoo because chances are it may be a little oily. Apply at the roots throughout your hair. Then pull the hair into a topknot and secure.

Stuff the left over hair around the base like you are stuffbig the chicken for Christmas Day roast on a time limit. Secure with a few long pins. Pull a bit out around the face and boom!

My monthly hair allowance is $6000 dollars

You have heard of high Maintainence people but can you imagine spending this much on your hair?

It has to be made up for sure right? This urban myth is actually a reality for a select few and the surprising break up will shock you and wonder why you have been doing your hair in salons like you have been!

Via Rich kids

So how can anyone spend that much a month on hair?

Here is the breakup

Flights $2780

Accommodation $ 734

Food $211

Taxi’s $322

Hair color 3 times $927

Haircuts twice $320

That is without charging for the 4am boarding charter flights or the 1am touch up’s before heading home for the day! So plus between 60-120% on outcall rates then add additional hours whilst the hairstylist is outside the salon.

Sure sounds fancy but when you consider the actual hair cost is fairly low, so if you own a hotel and have a private plane then it’s really a nominal amount that can keep you locked up inside your home and get everyone to come to you!

Not sure about you guys but we are ok to head to the salon whenever there is time, also happy to wait until when appointments are available.

If you think it’s just a few that live like this, you are grossly misinformed! This is not a privilege of rare few celebrities it is in fact more common that you think.

Then do we get a discount if we pay cash?

When to get the best photo of your hair

If you go through your camera roll we are fairly sure your hair looks dramatically different in every one and that’s because of the light.

Most likely a lot of images you have are indoors with little thought to light and direction of the light so it’s hit and miss with your hair. Some houses put warm bulbs, some out warm, some 40 watt some 100 watt so the variation is huge. Now take that add a harsh light coming in the window directly on the back of your head and chances are your hair looks black. If the bulbs are cool then the image will possibly look flat. If you take a photo at midday the sun is directly above you and the top of your head will be lit but your face one big shadow.

The ideal situation in natural light is know as “the golden hour“ which is directly after sunrise ( which let’s be honest no one is getting out of bed to take a “casual snapshot” of your hair at 6am!) and again before sunset. The light is softer and slightly warmer and more diffused.

Get the sun behind the person taking the photo and you will get a warmer softer result.

Hair color for 180 rupees!

You know it sounds too good to be true, or in fact it sounds suspicious I know!

We are all looking for a bargain but sadly no colors are not 180rp and you need to start shopping for result rather than price as the product is only part of the service, you also need skill.

We have lost count of the times we have spent hours fixing up a cheap hair color or a DIY haircut. Given everyone was locked up for over 2 months it’s ok that you gave it a go it’s perfectly fine in fact we get it. We have told many while in lockdown to simply shave it off because at the end of the day, hair grows!

But understand there is a lot more to doing color than simply opening a bottle and putting it on someone’s head ( I guess if you did do it yourself you most likely know that now ). Grey coverage, undertones, resistant mix, color fade and brocken off cuticles along with dehydrated hair and an over porous ends all lead to a huge variation in the end result.

We all have that one friend who when you ask “ Omg you have new hair” they very confidently say yes I did it myself for 180rp and guess what sadly in a lot of cases it looks like it too. Now not shaming anyone at all, if you can DIY and it’s working we say stick too it! But if you think you can take your black hair white cheaper and better than us, then we have to tell you to stop!

Happy to discuss ways to get your dream color within a budget or time frame and we also love being 100% transparent. If it’s possible we will tell you up front, if it’s not then we will tell you that too.

3 Hair habits to stop

If you always do what you’ve always done, you will always get what you already got.

Sometimes to get the things we want we have to break a cycle of doing things that in some cases, cause the opposite. No one wants to hear that the things they do are wrong but sometimes we need to be told. If you are constantly eating junk food, no exercise and sleep erratically the chances of you being the most healthy are fairly slim. Good habits create results if continued long enough.

Now let’s talk hair! When you shampoo your hair, the mission should be to cleanse your scalp so it’s not about rubbing the hair too much rather it’s about massaging the roots and then working it through the ends. You rinse well to make sure all the shampoo is removed. Then you Squeeze out excess moisture!

Then you apply conditioner on ends and work it through to the mid lengths not the roots or scalp. Conditioner is for your hair! Using a wide tooth comb starting from the bottom comb through to the roots to remove any tangles. Rinse well and not aggressive then don’t touch your hair.

Looks good for a photo but is terrible for your hair!

A lot get out of the shower flip hair upside down and wrap a towel! DO NOT DO THIS! It creates unwanted tension and friction on the hair. Imagine you want to avoid frizz yet you place your hair upside down twisted into a towel expecting it to sit frizz free when it’s out and down? Never goi g to happen!

Once out of the shower, gentle pat dry your hair in the position it’s in, add some leave in conditioner or serum as required and only using fingers place it where you want it. If you use a styling product go ahead and gently put that in but avoid touching it much at all.

These few habits will help you manage your hair in between trips to the salon as well as daily.

I’m Over Netflix & Chill

Netflix has currently 36,000 hours of content which means around 2,500 days of watching non stop. Now if you take sleep into consideration of about 8 hours that means it’s going to be very difficult for you to ever finish everything available. Daily hours are adding so you may as well give up now!

You most definitely can’t say, there is nothing to watch or you have seen everything because it’s simply impossible!

The classic tale of how Netflix got its start is that of CEO Reed Hastings, who was charged forty dollars in late fees when he rented Apollo 13 and kept it beyond its due date, keeping for six weeks. As the story goes, his wife was getting fed up with his incessant behavior of keeping movies far beyond their due dates, racking up huge late rental fees. It was told that Hastings had misplaced the video and didn’t want to tell his wife. He questioned himself about whether he was really willing to compromise his marriage over a late fee. On his way to the gym, he ascertained that the gym had a much better business model; you paid a set amount and could then work out as little or as much as you wanted.

Easy hair if you got caught in the rain

Most of you are still doing the WFH so there are no chances you got caught doing anything this morning other than sleeping in. For everyone else dealing with Monsoon rain on the way to work try these styles for a quick 5 min hack to get you ready!

If Kendall can do it, so can you!

Slick it back neatly with a little gel on the top, comb through gently with a wide tooth comb and let it be! It’s a look!

If that bothers you why not try a low pony tail, same as above but using a fine tooth comb, little gel and slick it back into a low pony tail and you are good to go.

Kim Kardashian wore it wet to the Met Gala I’m sure it’s ok for the office

A gel, a thick mouse scrunch it up and pout, if anyone has a problem tell them if it’s good enough for Kim they should be more than ok with it!

Has your hairfall increased?

The term “hair loss” is such a subjective term and brings up all kinds of thoughts and emotions. Having hair fall out is part of the cycle of hair growth and can not be stopped all together. Every human will have approximately 100 hairs fall out a day as it’s come to the end of the growth cycle ( known as the Telogen phase )

To understand this better there are three stages of hair growth, anagen, catagen and the final stage telogen begore it all starts again called Exogen stage or the resting stage begore new hair appears.

The Anagen stage is where the hair grows and this stage typically lasts anywhere from 2-7 years depending on your body and make up. Then the Catagen stage which lasts around 10 days where the hair follicle shrinks and detached from the papilla or root. Then comes the resting stage called Telogen where the hair sits while the new hair develops and pushes out the old hair and the cycle repeats.

Stay with me, it will all make sense!

With the entire world on lockdown and the threat of being infected with corona virus, jobs lost, employment uncertainty and the stress of family and friends and all of our future our body is producing more Cortisol ( also known as the stress hormone or the fight or flight hormone ) which in turn pushes the hair into the Telogen stage faster than it would normally. The increase production of this hormone also gives us less quality sleep, mood swings, muscle soreness, less flexibility, rapid weight gain, high blood pressure and a flushed face!

All in all the thought that the stress is making your hair fall out is in fact partly true! The best way to deal with this is to manage your stress levels, good nutrition, realistic and consistent sleep patterns, meditation and in extreme situations you may need to seek medical assistance. Also please see Other reasons you could be having excessive hair fall

It’s been a lot to take in and we still need to all get through the other side, so chill and do what you can and don’t stress for what you can’t do.

Are you copying a hairstyle?

Often hairdressers get photo references of celebrities hair that people love, which isn’t the bad thing. It’s human nature to gravitate towards someone we like or admire with clothes, holiday destinations.

Now while we love reference photos as it gives us an idea of what you like as well as what you don’t like but we have to remember your Face shape and hair is unique and the hair you love just may not work the same on you.

It may mean changing some elements of the reference to adapt to your hair and make sure it suits you and you can manage it the way you want.

We are all different and that we should embrace! You are unique and getting the right haircut from thr right Salon should be the focus. One that will help guide you and talk to you about what suits you!

5 DIY HAIR FAILS

It’s not uncommon for all of us to try and save money! It’s normal and in fact a good thing, but there is a time and place for everything.

YouTube and the internet is an incredible source of information and we can learn some great skills if we want but there are some things that are simply not DIY friendly. For a lot of people around the world left with no options a DIY haircut wasn’t a choice it simply had to be done snd that’s fine.

The Corona Cut

It’s not always ( in fact rarely ) going to turn out as you expected because years of training can’t be taught in a 10 minute video but at least it will fix what’s annoying you and give you something to do for a bit!

Now when it comes to color, it’s a lot more complex and easy to end up with a total disaster! Years of training, understanding color and knowing the underlying pigments in your hair along with the pre existing colors you have had it can go sideways fast!

Looks easy but requires years of training and science of hair
it’s not going to be an easy fix

Fixing something like a haircut is fairly simple and you may just need to go shorter than you want but fixing a color is more complicated so you should possibly leave it to the professionals. Who cares if it’s not fresh, doesn’t matter if there is a few white hairs showing. Wait and get it done in a salon when you feel comfortable to step outside!

You can always just buzz it off!

You Keep Saying You are Bored is NOT helping

Do you spend more than 2 minutes telling everyone how bored you are every day?

You don’t have to have a University degree to realise that 2020 sucks harder than the most expensive vacuum cleaner in history. It does and for a lot of people most likely more than you, since you are reading this puts you above the majority. There are people dying, starving, leaving on the streets and struggling just to get through today so in reality you are already one of the more fortunate ones!

If you keep telling yourself you are bored, chances are it’s not going to help matters at all. Instead focus on the fact that you have so many positive things in your life! There is literally a few years of rubbish to watch on Netflix, you can learn a language, read a book, write a book, learn how to meditate or simply spend your day on social media or you can choose to be productive. It’s not that you are bored maybe just that you have too many choices, aren’t you lucky!

If none of that sounds like enough fun then give us a call and come get some fresh hair!

Stop Colouring your Hair

If you want to hide something, put it in plain sight and no one will see it!

So you have spent the better half of this year trying to figure out how to color your hair at home or how to hide it but why?

Check out what white hair looks like

Why are you trying to hide or cover it up? Chances are it’s your perception that it makes you look old rather than reality. As we get older our skin tone changes so too our hair so rather than cover it up and try to match it up to the color you were at 21 why not try to enhance it and make the best out of it?

It’s not like there isn’t options, in fact the grow out is hard initially but it can be helped in various ways to be able to get you through it. Or you can simply go cold turkey and let it be.

You may want to check out What we can do here or come speak to us and let’s work out a plan to get you off this cycle!

Psychologically what happens when you get a haircut

Remember your last haircut, how you felt?

Our hair holds a lot of weight in emotional value and it’s not a new thought. For years after a breakup or sudden trauma a lot turn to a drastic change to help deal with things and can often be looked at like you are loosing your mind but has a huge relief for most.

Famously Britney Spears back in 2007 walked into a salon in the middle of a divorce and struggling with many personal demons and shaved her hair off. Some would say it’s extreme while others look at it as incredibly liberating. Whilst some psychologist like Rebecca Newman based in Philadelphia says it gives you an immediate boost of Oxytocin which is more commonly known as the “cuddle hormone” which is released by the pituitary gland. This hormone immediately makes you feel good and is similar to a good hug, a romp in the sack or the feeling of love.

We have seen over the years men and woman coming in after a personal trauma getting a drastic new look and loving it months later but at times we talk in-depth about the decision and find that it may need some more thought and a day or two for the to be sure.

We are seeing a lot use the opportunity to go GREY

In varies movies after a tragedy or trauma many will go drastic to shed the outer self and create a stronger exterior like Jodie Foster in “The Accused” or Deb from the the 1995 “Empire” shaves her head to be seen and become visible. It’s a very personal experience with everyone wanting to do it for various reasons.

So far 2020 has been anything but relaxing we have all had a lot of trauma and stress no matter how you look at it or who you are so increased hairfall is incredibly common right now along with a lot of people taking the opportunity to change the way they look. After all why not!

It doesn’t have to be a break up, a tragedy or something specific but it’s important to get the right advice and have your hairstylist get you in the right headspace to create something you love and won’t be wanting to grow out moments after you leave the salon!

Very few are taking holidays and let’s face it, the thought of heading away sounds great, it also sounds traumatic! Get your dose of OXYTOCIN free with every haircut

Pastel hair colors

Want to get a pastel hair color?

The task of going from dark to pastel colors is one that is shadowed in mystery and hidden agenda. We have tried to make things straight forward for you so taking the decision more informed.

Firstly it’s not a “quick” process nor is it cheap but we will tell you it can be stunning if done right! Going platinum is not a quick task and can take Months

Our co founder Merrylin wanted a pink egirl fade so we took the challenge. Her hair hadn’t been coloured for years so it was completely natural.

Via Merrylin Boro

We only did two sections from the top of the ear to the corner of her bangs. It was lightened from roots to ends for approx 35 min, rinsed and dried then re applied leaving our roots for another 30 minutes. We then wanted to let the hair rest for a few days and the swelling on the cuticle layer to subside.

After first day

The condition was great so we toned it lightly adding a soft ash gold to take the raw look off it. The few days rest would ensure the hair is not going to be damaged.

After first session after toning via Merrylin Boro

But we want to have a pastel color so we need to remove all the warmth out of the hair, putting the pink over it begore the toner above would not have given us a clean color. Fading the pink to white would have been a fairy tale. So away we went after 3 days and re lightened it leaving out the roots for another 30 minutes. We rinsed blast dried it and applied the pink fade and here is the result.

Via Merrylin Boro

The pink is intense and the roots and fades towards the ends and we think it looks hot! Maintenance is simply refreshing the pink every 10-12 washes and the blonde will grow out which will add to the effect and most likely we won’t do. Let’s see!

Hair color LIES you need to know

Wondered how some people color their hair every month different colors?

A lot of the references you have saved either in Pinterest or Instagram is possibly manipulated more than you were in your previous relationship. Yes fake, completely computer generated or adjusted to look better on line. Now is it wrong? It is if you are expecting your hair to go from black to blonde or platinum in one application as it’s fairly unlikely if you want hair left on your head!

Same photo

Keep getting references there is nothing wrong with that, the reality is expectations are linked to the current state of your hair. If it’s been getting coloured black or dark brown for years and you suddenly want platinum blonde it’s going to be a task. Not impossible but also not done in one day.

Another important thing to understand whilst everyone loves DIY every brand has a different way of naming colors. For example one brand may call a color dark blonde and the same looking color in another brand may call it chocolate brown. It’s completely different!

Same photo

Sure there is a lot of lightening assistance or additives that can be used but hair structure limitations are there no matter what you do. If you rush a platinum blonde you most likely will be back in 3-4 days as the gold or yellow pigment will end up exposing itself as the warm color molecule within your hair will expand after the process days after the color is done!

Give us a call get yourself an appointment and let’s create a realistic color for you that you can manage.

Things to do in lockdown

Stuck at home and dream of being productive?

For many around the world, the idea of working from home sounds great but completely useless if you are in the service industry, there appears like not a lot you can do from home. It’s a great time to get fit, learn something online or think of ways to pivot your business for the future.

Pottery classes online

We are blessed to meet some people who have used this time to actually start businesses and are booming! We had one client who has started an Indian snack business and has now 20 staff and small factory, a friend launched a healthy smoothie bowl business and is booming now. The stories are widespread and teaches us to think outside the box. There are opportunities right now that most can’t be bothered or simply don’t know how too take advantage of.

I know boredom and anxiety set in from day one for most including us, the thought of indefinite lockdown was daunting. Eleven weeks indoors in the end with restriction of movement limited to buying food and that’s it. We spent hours every day creating content for our website that was relevant for now and maintained interaction with our clients via Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp.

We had 321% increase in web traffic which in return we all know that means more business, more visibility and entertained us at the same time. Two months later we have maintained the traction and have inevitably changed the course of our business. through smart planning and a little research a lot things can be done or learnt in your underwear from the couch, bed or in front of the TV

Before you find excuses look for solutions and a way to make the current situation a positive. If you need help or ideas reach out to a friend or a company and ask for help, now is not the time to watch re-runs of friends or your favourite 90’s sitcoms.

BEST MENS CUTS FOR 2020

Let’s be real, we have all had so much free time this year and for a lot we also had a huge “to do list”. For many the list looks much the same and that’s ok because we all have our limits. If you have been pondering what is the fresh new haircut you can do then guys this haircut could be your 2020 uptick!

The new CREW CUT or the Fade!

We hear the same problem from guys all the time, hairlines look messy, the sides cover the ears in a week or so and it only lasts a few weeks if your lucky. Well given you still have a list of things you need to tackle we want to keep this short!

Here are some options that not only look fresh, current but cool and super low maintenance haircuts that you guys will love!

Faded and short at the top
Super tight fade and short at the top
Light fade and a little length at the top
A faded Crew cut
Super tight will a little length
Tight fade with extra length to play with
You can keep the top longer
You can still have a beard

The choice is yours, but one thing is for sure this is possibly the most low maintenance haircut for guys you will ever have!

Which Hair Salon to choose?

You want a haircut and you want it done right so who do you choose? The ones that claim to be the best? The biggest? The most luxurious salon in Delhi? Do you choose the salon that has the most locations? The one that has the most services? The salon that has the most celebrity clients?

Let’s be honest, it’s not that easy. It’s a matter of finding a salon & stylist that gets you, understands the language you speak, your ideas and your vision for your hair and you can talk freely with. It’s not about the awards, it’s not about how many “outlets” they have or the celebrity clients, it never has been! It’s about the personal skills along with the technical skills. You need both, not just one.

Via @janinazais on Instagram

The best way to find that salon is start with the internet, look at the website and see if it’s about selling multiple services, packages, discounts or if it’s about hair, styles new ideas thoughts colors etc. you will instantly get the vibe if it’s for you or not!
