You have seen the amazing photos online, they advertise it, your so keen to get your dry dull hair looking healthy so how do you do it?


The reality you will think is so basic you will assume we are lying but it’s fact so here goes

  • Get regular trims, regardless of length or desired length your hair needs trimming every 6-8 weeks.
  • Do not overdo chemical treatments, yes keratin is a chemical.
  • Avoid heat tools as much as possible, once a week is ok.
  • Use a good quality shampoo and conditioner every day or every second day.
  • Use a heat protecting serum and/or a leave in conditioner every time you wash your hair.
  • Don’t overlap color, if you have regrowth then color just that, the idea to run the color through the ends is wrong, it only causes damage and your ends should be slightly lighter than the roots anyway to look natural.

Now if you do this we promise you your hair will start looking shinny and healthy in no time!

DIY hair care exposed

In most civilized parts of the world hairdressing in a trade that requires schooling, typically anything from 1-3 years depending on if it’s hands on or a college based curriculum. Now given the hours, weeks, months of study let alone hours and hours of practical which includes science of hair, body and nutrition it’s hard to believe someone can just walk to the fridge pull out some left overs and poof, your hair is left feeling like new!


Sure we all see DIY posts on YouTube or Facebook from some very eager kids thinking they have discovered the atom bomb or debuged a myth that the human make up of hair and science was wrong, or that they saw papaya on the list of ingredients so they will mash one up and use it as a hair mask.

Hair is dead keratin, it’s dead! Yes you can maintain the health or more like condition of the dead keratin by using certain products, use them a certain way etc but putting food scraps on your head is not going to perform miracles. 

Myths around putting oil on your hair still get thrown around with people explaining why they think it works but wondering why there hair feels like straw. 

A solid hair care regime that includes regular shampooing ( every second day with the right products ) and conditioning every time. A leave in conditioner or serum ( depending on quality & texture of hair ) along with trim’s every 6-8 weeks then there is no reason to panic or have bad hair. We see a lot of people getting things done they either don’t need or shouldn’t be doing when in some situations not doing it would be better for your hair e.g.; your getting your regrowth color done and instead of just doing the roots you get it taken right thru the ends when it didn’t really need to be done ( over processing already coloured hair )
