How to control the frizz

The rain comes and you are all suddenly on the Internet searching for a miracle ( sorry but 😂) the extra moisture in the air causes hair to go crazier than your first boyfriend but there is a solution but you probably won’t like it but here goes.

Hair and the curl is a direct reflection of the moisture content of your hair, the more moisture the cleaner the curl, less moisture ( internally ) the more misbehaved the curl. If you want a product you most likely have already in your bathroom try a serum when it’s wet and again gently applied.

Tips to help prevent frizz

If your a hair maintained ( trimmed every 6-8 weeks regardless if your growing it or not ) this removes split ends that will themselves add to the frizz.

If you are one of those people who flips your hair upside down shakes it, or wraps it in a towel on top of your head stop doing it!!! This type of mistreatment will only add aggregation to your hair once dry, pat it dry don’t rub it like you’re drying a wet dog!

When you have the conditioner in each time you wash it ( and you should condition it every time, it closes the cuticle and prevents moisture escaping ) use a wide tooth comb when it’s in and detangle.

If you get a blow out, chances are at some point you have experienced the hairstylist burning your hair into place vs gently encouraging it. Finish the blow out with cool air, this helps close the cuticle giving it shine and keeping the moisture inside.

Use 2-3 drops of Serum ( we recommend Cristali Liquid by Alfa Parf ) when it’s freshly washed and again as it’s 90% dry

Should it be curly or straight

Well they all say Keratin or rebonding so what should you do? Choose the right thing for you and your hair!

Well prevention is far better than cure, so a few things you can do now to prevent being a walking hair disaster once it’s raining everyday.

  • Don’t underestimate regular trims, every 6-8 weeks regardless. This removes split ends and keeps the ends in the best possible condition.
  • Always use conditioner, a leave in serum daily. This will keep the cuticle closed and prevent moisture getting inside the hair structure and creating unwanted frizz.
  • If it gets wet, dry it as quickly as possible.
  • Keratin good or bad? Well depending on your hair condition and texture but it certainly helps relax the hair and prevent the monsoon frizz.

Remember that a little preparation will get you through these crappy months. Using the right products and making sure you are not overdoing anything, the condition is paramount, look after that and your halfway there.

7 ways to prevent frizz during monsoon

Yep the rains have started, some may say a little early but it doesn’t matter they are here and your hair is going to start looking like Simba from Lion King 🦁 if you’re not game ready.

There are a few things that can help we thought it best to share so you don’t end up looking like a crazy Freek!

  • Yes keratin can help, it’s not rebounding, it’s not a cure all but it does reduce frizz a lot if you have curly or frizzy hair it’s a great time to get it done now.
  • Conditioner and we always say use it because it closes the cuticle and prevents moisture escaping or getting inside the hair and causing the frizz
  • A leave in serum, prevents moisture entering past the cuticle.
  • Styling dust, whilst it’s designed to add volume by design soaks up moisture therefore helping prevent frizz
  • A light layer of hairspray regardless if you need it because this will help repel moisture.
  • The right cut, it’s not a secret but if your hair is cut correctly for not only your face and lifestyle but also the texture. No matter what the situation it will survive.
  • Linseed treatments, we use Alfa Parf moisture to ensure the cuticle is closed tight and if it is, then less likely that frizz will happen.

Keep in mind hair doesn’t have to be poker straight to look neat, nor does the curl need to be controlled, it’s about taming and working with what you have so you can look good no matter what the weather.

Healthy choices for your hair

With a large shift globally of us all choosing more natural food, less processed and more organic and ethically produced produce it only makes sense at some point we question our hair choices. So many myths, blogs, advice and DIY information out there that almost always contradicts itself.

Here is my tips for things you can stop, start or continue depending on what your currently doing.

1. Shampoo choice – depending on the state of your hair, if you have color, damage, fine, thick etc etc but a sulfate free shampoo or one that is low in sulfate like “organic” by Label M is ideal. Will cleanse gently but not strip color or moisture. Once a week using a deep cleansing shampoo to remove any pollution or impurities is a must also. Keeping in mind when you shampoo you must condition every time ( just your hair ) shampoo daily or very least alternate days.

2. Rebonding is in my opinion one of the most aggressive things you can do to your hair and creates a nightmare long term for both styling as well as Maintainence. Alternative is Keratin ( fermaldehyde free) we use Global Keratin.

3. Regular trims, yes 6-8 weeks and if the thought scares you is probly to do with the scissor happy hairdresser you go to so change. Removing and split ends is essential for healthy looking & behaving hair.

4. The most over used word in Asia is HAIR SPA peeps understand majority are beautifully packaged conditioners. You need protein and moisture and treatment will do that so repairing damage is part of the purpose and a lot simply can’t do that. We use ALFA Parf linseed treatment and Olaplex.

5. Styling, a lot of hairstylist burn, pull when styling your hair and this if done weekly will create damage that only scissors can remove. A blow dry should never really be felt let alone be painful.

If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you already have. Hair you love starts with a few choices by you.

Monsoon hair hacks like a pro!

It’s kind of obvious we should be now taking the umbrella everywhere we go just in case but if you do get caught here are some hacks that will help!

It starts in the shower

The cuticle layer which is the outer layer of your hair is the key to keeping moisture out & in which will prevent the frizz & dehydration. A lot of people still skip using a conditioner after shampooing in the hope to have fuller hair, which will leave your hair dry & prone to frizz and breakage.  Always use a conditioner.

Don’t over touch or agrivate your hair.

The trick is not to touch it unless there is a good reason, you should be only doing the touching in the shower. When the conditioner is in, a wide tooth comb to remove the tangles and rinse.  Do NOT TOUCH IT AFTER THIS!

I’m often suprised when  people shake their hair like a hall carpet after a dust storm and then wonder why it’s frizzy. Don’t flip your hair upside down and wrap it in a towel, this is creating frizz because of the direction your drying it.  Pat dry or blot dry your hair, never shake, toss it or start flipping this way and that.

Wet to dry & cool

If your hair happens to get wet, or you get caught in the rain try and get it dry as soon as possible. Aim to blowdry it as soon as possible, also make sure all of the moisture leaves the hair using the cold button make sure the hair is cooled down, this closes the cuticle hence helping to repel moisture in and out!

Pretty in Silk

No it’s not just for royalty, get yourself a silk Scarf and wrap your hair  in it before going to bed.

Products to help

Cristali Liquid by ALFA Parf, closes cuticle helping repel moisture radicals.

Dry Shampoo by Label M – this will help absorb a little moisture.

A protein spray, a leave in conditioner – various brands and helps lock cuticle closed

If all else fails then stop fighting it and go with it, add some creme or paste and load it up and let your hair go free!
