How much hair fall is ok

You all worry like hell, in fact every single time you see one strand of hair you think you are going bald, yes you do don’t lie!

a6d7e16a34d95bc3b52183c939a852a0

Its perfectly normal to think about some things and its ok to do your research, science is constantly developing new ideas and medicine so it fairly possible that after we hit the publish button parts of this may be not true lol but highly unlikely ( just saying )

To have some hair fall is completely normal and you can not do anything about it, its natures way.  Approx 90% of the follicles on your hair are active and are producing hair growth, whilst the other 10% are dying and the hair will fall out and a new hair will start to grow from that follicle. thats great I hear you saying but what does that mean, how much is abnormal and how much is too much? Well approx 100-150 hairs per day is in the spectrum or normal and you should not be concerned at all! Now because we know you and we know you like to be a little over the top and freak out constantly like you have nothing else in your life to worry about lets put it all into perspective.

If you wash your hair every second day, a lot of the hair from day 2 will still be on your head, possible already fallen but stuck there so when you shampoo your hair or most likely when you apply conditioner it will appear in your hands. Now the conditioner is NOT causing this, it closes the cuticle so makes the hair smooth hence the hair that is already out but tangled amongst other hair will now slide out in your hand. Again this is NORMAL and 2 days of normal hair loss equals 150 times two = 300 hairs. Take that to washing every 3rd day = 450 hairs.

Can you stop hair fall? NO not completely

Is there a hair fall shampoo, yes and its marketing campaign is amazing!

Is there a treatment you can do to make it not fall out, ummmmm no

Hair fall in the above range is normal and not to be worried about, a good diet, a good haircare regime using a sulphate free shampoo and always conditioner and your off to a good start.

Food that makes your hair grow

There is has and always will be some trend food that claims to make your hair grow faster, thicker and healthier and this one is nothing short of a miracle!

The reality is very different and whilst you have another tab open on hacks to increase your Instagram following, just like that tab too it’s all kind of crap!

Your intake is part of what determines hair growth but it’s also genetic, so I guess a cream, lotion or magic berry from the amazon isn’t going to do that much. There are 5 basic food groups ( google it ) eat from all the required groups daily and you will set your body up for success. Could be training for a marathon or simply wanting to be healthy, it’s the fuel your body needs to function at its best.

Supplements are ok to some extent but understand if something like “folate” helps hair grow, eating folate rich foods and then taking folate tablets isn’t going to double up your growth. Basic common sense, add some of that to your diet and eat healthy, not for a week and expect results it’s more like a lifestyle than a fad.

No food can stop hair fall, it’s like trying to stop your nails growing, you can’t.

Hair fall solution

With every change of season we all experience an increase of hair fall, it’s normal, you can expect 50-150 hairs falling out per day, yes per day!

Now no matter who you are, you are already saying omg I loose so much more than that, chances are you’re not chances are you have never physically sat and counted them nor you ever will! With 90% of the hair on your head in the growing stage and 10% in the resting stage, the 10% will eventually fall out and be replaced with new hair growth.

Now several other factors begore closing this tab and continuing your searches!

  1. If you wash your hair every 2-3 days the chances of those 50-150 hair being gone are slim the last 2-3 days of loose hair will come loose when you shampoo so chill it’s not more, the hair has simply got stuck there.
  2. Vitamins and diet, if you eat right and sleep tight there is no need to do anything else. Vitamins if you’re lacking in one area.
  3. Treatments work? You MAY  experience in the vacinity of 1-3% difference but hardly.  Remember it’s seasonally excelerated.

Get the facts and don’t be sucked into buying treatments or products that claim can give you a full head of hair, they don’t work!

Hair fall solution without surgery!

No more need for injections or a scalpel to get your hair growth issues in order!

Yes ok you got me, there is no cure! But we will say a few things to clear the air so there is no bad feelings and you didn’t end up opening this as a total waste of time, because we know your doing this at work and time is money!

Ok so you have googled it to the end of the planet and still can’t find a cure, maybe there isn’t one?

Hair growth is for the most part hereditary and portion effected by what you eat, the environment and small portion to what goes on your head. Hair grows inside your body not outside, oils and lotions are topical meaning the best they can do is penetrate the first layer of your skin ( at best ) so in short anything you put on your scalp thinking it’s going to make it grow back or make it grow thicker is in fact false.

What you need!

Sounds basic but you need a good hair care regime, a good cleanser and a routine that does not allow bacteria to grow on your scalp as this is a huge contributor to infection which then leads to increase hair loss. Problem you will tell us is you only want to wash it every third day because you needs to blow dry it bla bla bla. Well decide what you want, hair or good hair this week?

Now your scalp perspires and there is dirt and pollution in the air and it needs to be removed so daily is always the best when it comes to shampooing. Use a sulfate & parabin free shampoo. We use Alfa Parf but if you want to research please do and get one.

Now before you start putting oils or lotions on your scalp which will do nothing but block the pores and attract pollution, coat your hair and dehydrate it more than anything else. Get the basics right.

Your hair growth facts

Your hair outside your body ( the visible stuff ) is dead keratin, the growth happens inside your body so before you start thinking about things you can do on the outside make sure your body is all set up for the best production for growth!

Obviously a good balanced diet is needed, a good amount of sleep, adequate hydration, limited stress etc etc and the list goes on. Let’s think about your scalp as the environment, it effects the growth but last time we checked, limited absorption of product, serum or your favorite ” hair spa” is not going to miraculously effect your hair that is under your scalp.

A healthy scalp needs regular shampooing, daily is recommended with a Sulfate free product and never, never put oil on your scalp. It effects the ph level of the scalp area which in turn effects hair growth and not in a good way.

A good diet, good sleeping pattern and good products when regularly shampooing. Sadly eating this or that to try to assist will help as much as eating 300 carrots a day to give you that flushed healthy cheeks lol

Get yourself into our salons and ask us what’s what.

Is your bath plug is full of hair?

You end up picking up what seems like handfuls of hair every time you shampoo your hair? Are you suffering from sudden hair loss? Do you think if this continues you will be bald by mid next week?

Stop acting like a baby, your not going to be bald any time soon let’s help explain the facts based on science and not on trying to rename a treatment or shampoo as “hair loss”. We get asked daily about hair loss and to be honest a lot of salons, product companies etc make a lot ( I mean a LOT ) of money with hair fall specific treatments or products that do didly squat ( nothing ) to your hair.

Facts

  • You have approx 100,000-150,000 hairs on your head at any given point
  • Your normal shedding of hair is approx 100-125 per day
  • If you shower every third day then when you wash you will see 300-375 hairs in your hands because each day it’s been falling but stuck in amoungst the other hair.
  • Conditioner does NOT make your hair fall out, it closes the cuticle and hence makes the loose hair slip out
  • Washing it daily not only won’t make it fall out but WILL help keep your scalp clean
  • Hair fall shampoo’s…. use a Sulfate free shampoo good for everyone, color or no color, keratin or no keratin.  It’s low in detergent and gentle on scalp.
  • Hair loss increases in seasons so whilst it may increase in short term long term it will settle.
  • Medicine if your body has a deficiency however 100-125 is normal and no medicine will stop that.
  • Water quality can cause hair fall yes, only real solution is washing in filtered water
  • Putting any oil on your scalp is a complete waste of time and in fact can increase hair fall by altering the ph level of your scalp.  It’s never reccomended and is one of those tales handed down generation after generation.
  • Can anything increase hair growth? NO you an try standing in a bucket of water thinking it will help you increase your height, chances are if enough people said it worked you may try it.

There now clean the drain get some Sulfate free products, put the oil in the kitchen and cancel your “specialist” appointment lol

Hair fall facts dropped

You’ve blocked the drain in the shower and every time you sit to eat food their seems to be hair in it?

Sound like you?

Well it’s a common issue and most people still live in the dark about how much is too much and what’s normal when it comes to “hair fall” and a lot of haircare companies simply react to people’s concern and bring out a shampoo for “hair loss” instead of providing information.  Here are some facts!

  • Loosing 100-150 hairs per day is considered normal ( the longer it is the more it will look like)
  • Not washing your hair because you think it’s falling out will make matters worst
  • Substituting shampoo with dry shampoo is wrong, it will cause more problems.
  • Hair fall is seasonal and hormonal driven. More falls out at the change of season
  • Prolonged use of “anti dandruff” shampoo can in fact cause hair fall due to the quantity of harsh chemicals
  • Oil rubbed on your scalp will leave residue and add to problems not prevent them
  • Using a leave in serum after I condition will help will lunricating hair whilst combing hence less friction & less breakage
  • Breakage is not hair fall, you can not destroy your hair with doing chemical services, abuse it with heat and label the breakage as hair fall.
  • Diet has a large role to play in hair fall
  • Stress has a large roll in hairfall

A little common sense when it comes to hair fall and consulting a doctor if you feel it’s abnormal ( which if your reading this you most likely feel it’s extreme )

Beware as many companies and clinics are cashing in on your insecurities and will happily apply this and that telling you it is what you need.

Remember this;

  • A clean scalp
  • Condition always
  • Balanced diet
  • Regular trims
  • Don’t over process your hair, chemical burn and breakage is real

Does conditioner cause hair fall?

Let’s start again and try and forget what you know, what you have read and what your parents, grandparents and go through some facts why, how and when soy our hair has every possible chance to be in the best condition possible.

Choose your shampoo & conditioner based on hair texture and no matter what your desired end result you have to use conditioner. If you open the cuticle  you must close it, if you don’t condition and some people think because they want big hair they should leave it a bit rough by not conditioning it. The truth is it may but will cause a little rough hair getting a touch more fullness that day but will leave your hair in bad condition and open to spilt hair and damage.

Let’s look at the most common myths about using conditioner.

  1. Myth-Conditioner makes my hair fall. No this is a myth, it closes the cuticle and makes the hair shaft smooth. When your hair is rough it sticks to each other so imagine there is 100 hairs falling ( naturally per day ) you wash it every 3 days so now there is 300 hairs that have already fallen in your hair that will come out once it’s washed. Don’t be fooled thinking it’s falling more than normal.
  2. Myth-  I want full hair so I don’t condition it. If this is your goal then your approaching it wrong. Don’t use a conditioner and your cuticle will be open, the moisture levels reduced, your color will fade and spilt ends get worst. If you want fullness then look at using a styling product like Sea Salt Spray by Label M or Resurrection Dust by Label M which will easily give you a level of volume that will keep you looking like the lead singer in a 60’s girl band.

You filthy Animal

Its no surprise that we all are dying in the heat and perspiration is a fact of life, even a short walk to the car can make you wetter than a night out at the strip club!

To make sure your scalp is not wet all day and becoming a bacteria farm you need to make sure your using the right products and in the right way to keep your scalp healthy, healthy scalp means healthy hair growth! Your hair once it is visible is dead keratin, the growth is internal, under your scalp and the only really obvious way you can help your growth is making sure your intake is a healthy balance covering all of your dietary needs. Sure its boring to say a balanced diet and a good amount of sleep and your body will function the way it was designed.

We get asked a lot about hair growth, how to grow your hair faster, thicker, healthier etc etc its really the basics you need to get right in order to have the best hair possible. We have put together a checklist to make it a little easier in the hope that next time you come in we can chat about more random things but if you still need help give us a shout!

What shampoo should I use?

Your shampoo should be decided on what your hair, scalp is doing at that particular time. If its the peak of summer you don’t have colour then its fairly possible you need a good cleansing shampoo, if you do have color then the conditioner should be chosen for the color.

Will washing my hair everyday make my hair fall out?

This is not at all true, in fact not washing your hair enough will have more adverse effect on your hair growth than washing it too often. Good quality products is the key and that doesn’t mean you choose the product that you saw on the side of a bus, it means a little research. Of course we will tell you our products are the best like every salon because if they didn’t believe in what they are selling then there is a real problem. We use Label M and Alfa Parf, both internationally known and respected products, we use and recommend those because we truly believe they are the best, its not about pushing, its about having the right products and tools to make sure your hair looks the way it was intended long after you leave the salon.

Conditioner makes my hair fall out!

Conditioner closes the cuticle layer of your hair, sealing in the moisture and making sure it is smooth and tangles free leaving the hair with shine and looking healthy. When you put conditioner in your hair, actually put it in your hair on the ends and work it upwards towards the scalp, using a wide tooth comb starting at the ends comb it through. When your doing this, the hair will become slippery and you will get some loose hairs coming out ( because now its slippery and loose hair that was already out was previously stuck within the other hair ) This is not hair fall this is normal. Having 150-200 approx a day come out is in the space of “normal” sure it can fluctuate and will increase slightly in summer months as we tend to shed a little more hair but overall this is considered normal.

Conditioner makes my hair flat

Conditioner is for the hair, typically the ends so if your using it properly then chances are you using the wrong one! Every time you shampoo, you must condition your hair, if you open the cuticle you must close it!

Serum makes my scalp oily

Wow, yes i hear this one often, hello serum is for your hair not your scalp! Serum on your ends not the scalp

Hair Care 101

A quick tip to help keep the frizz in check is when you have the conditioner on in the shower, using a wide tooth comb starting at the bottom comb the hair through and get rid of all the tangles. With the conditioner in it acts as a lubricant and reduces tearing of the hair. Don’t brush your hair when its dry unless your a cartoon character called Rapunzel as it damages your hair!

Just because a hair care product company saturates the media does NOT mean it is the best! Do your research
