Most people would agree that a small dose of sunshine on your skin changes the way we feel dramatically and while there is a lot of talk and evidence not too expose yourself too much, we need vitamin D for our body to function and grow.
Can your hair be exposed too much, the easy answer is yes and whilst there are a lot of sun protection products obviously prevention is better. Try tying your hair up and wrapping in a scarf, a hat, you can use a leave in moisturiser and or serum which have UV protectors in them also.
Don’t live in the shade and always wear sunscreen on your skin apply every hour!
It’s no secret that Instagram has made it look like some things are super easy, from making cakes that will make you cream your pants or sky diving off a cliff but one thing that is certain, Balayage is not a DIY type of thing.
If you want it done properly go to a professional salon it’s that simple. No it’s not just like colouring for to dot Susan, it’s creating art freehand and no not after a night out on turps ( although have done it and was all good ).
Thinking about getting away from foils and getting something more natural then come have a chat with us.
Often it’s hard to explain things so we use multiple tool to try to explain what a certain look is. Here is a perfect example of face framing color, slightly more color around the face than the rest of the hair, it opens up the face ( unless you wear it all over your face )
The darker the hair is naturally the less light you would take it, it’s meant to be subtle and not a highly visible effect rather a shift of color that enhances the overall look!
Most of you who have ever searched YouTube a make up tutorial you will be familiar with the term “contouring” with make up, its the use of lighter and darker shades to to define or highlight areas of the face be it jaw line, cheek bones etc. This has now moved into assisting in creating the perfect color specifically for your face shape. Everyone has a different face shape and hair texture so its important when you are choosing what color you are going to do that you get the right advice, not just based on what’s in but also what would suit you best after a consultation from the experts.
Its about choosing light and dark tones in certain areas to create depth or shadow on the face and can completely change the way you look! If you are looking for a trend that is unique then look no further because this will not only be on point but bring out the best version of you possible.
Lets look at a few various face shapes so it makes it a little easier to understand how this will change the way you color your hair forever!
When we look at an Oval face we have to expand it a little so it’s about creating lighter shades on the lower lengths and on the underneath of the sides and deeper or darker shades on the top to give the illusion of a slightly wider face
Round face shape, The goal here is to stretch out the look, so adding depth to the ends and lightening around the hairline will do exactly that and give you a more elongated look
Square, Again it is about bringing proportion to the shape, accentuating the length and softening the lines using lighter and darker shades around the ears which adds interest and softness.
Heart shape, Lightening around the jawline will soften the jawline and the lower section of the face, the top layers should be slightly lighter to take the eyes away from the width.
Its never about trying to be someone else, its only ever about trying to be the best version of you possible. If you are coloring your hair and if by chance its a block color then your doing it all wrong, naturally no one has the same color on every strand on their head from roots to ends, its incredibly artificial making hair contouring is the go to technique to either make you look naturally hot or over the top crazy ( the same thing can be done with bright colors be it pastel pink, reds, blues etc )
So you have saved up spent hours in the salon and you love the color only to find it wash out or the intensity has washed out after a week. We hear this often and typically one of the biggest causes is wrong shampoo!
Sulfate or SLS will strip the tone of the color faster than anything else, use a sulfate free shampoo!
Yes we stock it, in fact all our shampoo is SLS free.
No we have decided to sell coloured condoms, yet we are sure that some would think we should it makes perfect sense. Well we do sexy hair, sexy hair leads to sexy times or something like that but we are not. We want to give you the 401 on maintaining your hair color.
You can do everything right and yet sometimes things still go wrong, could be the water could have been the state of your hair before you coloured it or a act of mystery but 99% of the time if the color is done properly it’s what and how you treat it when you leave the salon. Simple fact to remember the better the condition, the better the longevity of the tone and shade of color.
Use a sulfate free shampoo always always always
Always condition, yes guys too every time you wash you condition. This closes the cuticle and keeps the color from fading.
If it’s blonde, use a brightening shampoo like the one we stock from Label M alternate days. It’s purple and helps reduce gold or yellow pigment.
Don’t use oil! Do t care what your mum or grandmother say it’s wrong! It coats the hair, makes it shinny but acts like a coating on the hair shaft making moisture dry out internally hence effecting the color dramatically.
Don’t try and do DIY hair expecting it to look like anything on Pinterest other than a disaster. Trust professionals only.
Don’t shop solely on price, sad reality is whilst some will try there best to convince you they are the best yet once it’s done you will end up spending more fixing it!
So before you head to a salon and tell them what to do like your ordering your dinner at a take away do your research on line, check what work the salon does, check check and recheck. It’s your hair so do your research and once you have left the salon make sure to look after it!
We met someone recently who shall remain nameless ( lets call her Sally lol )
She had gone to another Salon and had some “chunky” foils done, wanted to look a little edgy ( apparently ) and ended up looking like her hair had been chewed by a hungry rat that fell asleep halfway through its meal!
Now was the cut wrong, well technically no, it was the color that was creating the look which was, lets just say we had chest pain the entire time until we could fix it! Now if it was all the one length then this type of ” chunky ” color could be done and not look as bad ( although its circa 1990 and a little too Spice girls for our liking but hey its your hair right )
Word to the wise, if you want chunky color there is a way to have it without it looking like this, try a peekaboo type color in the bottom half which gets the color poking itself out in the bottom rather than doing this blocking highlights which is not only not cool on the eye but also high maintenance.
So you have had a brainwave to color your hair and want it done like yesterday now its on your mind its almost as if it has to be done as soon as possible, so how do you decide what color you should do? You may love your sisters hair or your BFF’s but you have different hair, personality and its not you right!
Because we know that it can be overwhelming to decide do you go lighter, dark, should it look natural or should it be a pastel pink?
We will always discuss color in detail as it is something that needs to be talked about and given the pro’s and con’s as depending on the color it could take you 12-18 months to grow it out so its worth us spending the time to work it out prior! Its always a good idea to head on over to Pinterest and save your favorites and then look and asses what it is you like, you may find once you have all the images laid out that there is a pattern of what you like, it may work it may not but at least you will be able to see them and discuss it with us when you come in.
Its a big decision getting your color done and you should never take an impulse decision based on a spare of the moment thing!
Come in and discuss your options with us, we will take the time to give you the positives and the negatives ( if any ) before you take the decision to do it!
Do you do waxing, can I get my makeup done, do you do Saree draping, can someone run out and pick up my dry cleaning, can someone move my car, can you come to my house at 7 am and give me a blow out, can I get my Amazon order delivered here, can I use your wifi, can I borrow a battery charger, can I use your laptop, do you have a microwave to heat up my lunch, can I get a foot massage, do you have a little cake or something sweet to eat, can you give me the color to do at home myself & do you sell wigs. These are just some of the things we get asked!
We want to make your life easy so just to let you know, we do hair, we are a hair Salon, we do everything to do with the hair on your head, not other parts of your body.
If you have ever coloured your hair you will know that getting it done and maintaining it can be two completely different things, sure every effort may be made in the process however if you do not look after it the intensity will fade!
Things to make sure you are doing to keep the color alive!
Use a sulphate free shampoo, this is detergent free and will be a lot more gentle on the color and you will experience less fade.
Always condition, Even if you think you shouldn’t, you have to use a conditioner as this closes the cuticle and will keep the color inside the hair shaft longer and not let it be exposed to the sun, or fading.
Dont do any chemical treatments after your color, this will strip out the color faster than you can imagine. Once its coloured do nothing.
Regular trims, every 5-6 weeks, removes split ends ( which will not hold color intensity at all ) and keeps the hair looking fresh and in good condition
Hope this helps, if you need more advice drop into the salons and ask us 🙂
Apparently one of the most searched things to talk about is how to make your hair look healthy vs actually making it healthy. Now whilst obviously prevention is better than trying to fix something that is already ruined but we will share with you one of the best keep secrets to get shinny hair immediately!
Now there are a zillion masks, treatments, hair spa’s, oils, serums etc etc on the market and some work to some extent and some are just nonsense that are cosmetic vs actually making any difference. To have shinny hair it is the light reflecting on the outer layer of the hair ( the cuticle ) now if the cuticle has been damaged, could be from blow drying, using hot styling tools or overdone colour or keratin etc then no amount of ” Spa” or treatment is going to fix it anytime between now and Xmas so how do you look good for the holidays?
Here is how!
We use a clear gloss that is low in ammonia and will act as a lacquer over your hair, won’t change your colour, won’t damage your hair but will get the light reflecting off it today! Now whilst this will make your hair feel better it is NOT a repair service it is simply to help it look better. Depending on the condition it can make a huge difference, it will wash out so it is safe to do and won’t have any long term negative effects!
You grew up thinking you had black hair, everyone told you it’s black, it looks black, chances are it’s not.
When your colouring your hair to appear natural going with the color you were when you were 5,10 or even 15 is wrong. As we get older our hair changes color so whilst you may have been dark brown at 10 your 35 with some white hairs chances are it’s brown!
If you’re colouring your hair to cover the grey here are a few things to help get the best out of the time and longevity of the process.
Always go 1/2 to 1 shade lighter than your natural color
Add variation, a few highlights gives variation and therefore breaks up regrowth, giving you longer between colors.
Don’t color the ends, ever! The ends should be lighter than the roots.
Use a sulfate free shampoo and always conditioner.
Try to add a variation each visit, shade change or add some fun to eliminate boredom.
If you can manage a few of the above, you’re chances of having a color people comment on in a good way are far greater!
Well recently we were told you could look on “Craig’s list” for one, but honestly we are not going up recomend that option unless you’re a backpacker looking for a free ride and possibly happy with some weirdo driving you through the desert 🌵
It needs to be a relationship that both know what page you are on, the ice has been Brocken and your in a good place. Now given everyone is different and personalities vary how do you find that fast, because you need your blow out done tomorrow night!?
Well here is the quickest way
Or use this checklist
Search on line for a person not a salon in your area who specialises in hair. Google is great but don’t just look at the paid ads!
Look at the salon & persons profile online, Facebook, Instagram etc
Drop them a DM and ask some random question, see if they even reply.
Look on all the leading fashion magazines like Elle, Vogue, Cosmopolitan or Harpers Bazaar to see who they talk about.
Go through the salon website and see if it’s just about money & price or it’s about hair
Ask your friends or complete strangers who does there hair.
At the end of the day the relationship you have will largely determine if your hairstylist “gets you” or is simply telling you to do xyz.
So you have lightened up your hair now you look like a canary?
Lightening hair is NOT a DIY type of thing anyone should be trying, no matter how many YouTube video’s you watch everyone’s hair is completely different and it’s history unique.
Now when it comes to getting the exact tone your after it completely depends on the level your hair is at, you have yellow hair and you want it ash grey, well you have to go lighter first and the combinations are endless.
How do I keep it that color or will it fade?
Depending on the history of your hair, current condition, home hair care when it fades or if it fades. A toner masks certain colors you want and enhances others so there is more than one answer. Use a sulfate free shampoo, always always condition and if needed a blonde balm or “purple shampoo” to keep blondes clean and yellow free.
Best way to make sure it’s the perfect tone is only visiting a professional salon!

You’ve had the ideal color and you love it, how can you make sure it’s tone stays true between visits?
You color will stay if you do a few basic things and you can not swap and change because your related to the PM live in an upmarket area or think you know your hair better than any hairdresser on the planet so here goes.
For your color to stay it has a direct link to the condition of your hair. The better condition the better chance the color will fade.
You have to make sure the cuticle is closed, every time you shampoo you MUST condition.
Hair spa is somewhat not needed, a treatment that closes and soothes the cuticle is beneficial but doubt weekly is required.
Sulfate free shampoo ( aka detergent free ) does not strip color or the tone.
Regular trims, yes every 6 weeks. Why? Well hair that is split that area the color can not hold as the structure is too damaged.
Your precious colors have an impact to the overall tone and fade of your current look. If you have been lighter and gone darker it can fade and go a little brassy or golden so altering the tone or reflect may be needed when you get your top up.
Going over all of your hair each time you get your color done is not only a waste of time and money it damages the ends when you should not be doing it. The term “Global Color” is only done on the rare occassion your changing your overall color. Hair should be slightly lighter on the ends. Don’t over use chemicals as this will cause damage hence fade.

There is always rules, then reality however since it’s become obvious now that some people only find out about us when they turn out looking like the Cookie Monster in seasame street and start googling. We want to give you a few suggestions on how to choose the right salon.
Just because you want it doesn’t mean it’s the right thing for the look your after or your hair. We don’t do rebonding we do however do keratin and the reason for this is to keep the integrity of the hair intact. Rebonding is harsh and over time, continually blow dry and overlapping color the hair looks dry and becomes so fragile you will start wishing at some point you never did it.
We put Quality Hair before getting a “sale” and are happy to say no to doing something that we do not think is the right thing to do for your hair. The reality is that just because other salons say yes to doing something, doesn’t mean it’s going to be the right thing to do.
Hair is fragile and needs to be treated in a way that encourages health first then doing any chemical service to your hair will not destroy it. Some salons have recently started doing rebonding saying it’s keratin just to make sure it’s straight when in fact keratin will never make your hair straight. Find out the facts and do a bit of research before because once you have hair that’s destroyed it’s too late for miracles! lol
