We hear stories all the time about just about anything, people add bits to stories and as they move along it becomes fact, when in reality it’s just a story. When it comes to hair there are so many stories that are simply not true nor have any factual context at all. Here are some!
Fact or fiction on hair
If you color your hair, it will fall out? False in fact there is more chance of being hit by a plane landing on your house than your hair falling out from colouring. It can break off if it’s not done properly but falling out is unlikely
Cutting your hair makes it grow faster? No false, your hair grows regardless it may be healthy if you get regular trims ( every 6-8 weeks ) but growth happens under the scalp so nothing to do with the ends. Split ends left can travel up the hair shaft and break off but the growth remains the same.
The more you colour your hair the more grey comes? False, if you cover it over time you will have more grey it’s simply hidden.
Washing your hair causes hairfall? False! Hair has a life cycle and once it’s complete it falls out and grows again. If you keep in mind approx 100 hairs a day fall regardless and you wash it every 3rd day then expect 200-300 hairs come out of your hairstyle when you wash it. When you apply conditioner it closes the cuticle and makes it more slippery against the other hair, so the hair that’s fallen out but stuck will come loose then also. It’s not the product!
Shaving a child’s head to grow it thicker? False cutting hair has absolutely nothing to do with the texture of the growth ( which is Dna and created under the skin ) whilst it may look or feel thicker it is simply because all the hair is then the same length. It does not make it grow any thicker, faster or change the way it will be at all!
Hope that’s has helped clear up some hair myths for you ✌🏻
By now we have all had enough, its been above 40 for the past 3 weeks with the temperature only going to mid 30’s in the early hours of the morning so its no wonder your hair may be feeling a little dehydrated. It can cause color to fade, increase split ends, go frizzy and just make you feel like crap so its a good all round reason to make sure you get on top of it if it hasn’t already.
Here is what you can do right now to top up the moisture levels!
Book yourself in for a trim 011410100 11 – you should be trimming it every 6 weeks regardless of if you want to grow it or not, it removes damaged ends from heat, sun, styling and life so it can continue to look good
check the shampoo you are using, use a sulphate free one, its more gentle and will keep moisture levels better than any other shampoo. We use and recommend Alfa Parf, yes we stock it and its for sale
Stop doing chemical treatments just because everyone else is, possibly the worst treatment you can do is Rebonding or smoothening, some call it different things but the process is the same. Kerating should ONLY be done if there is no other option and will reduce curl and/or frizz but not 100% so be aware of reality vs great before and after images on social media!
Always condition and use a leave in serum, if your hair gets oils then wash it daily but skipping these two will dry our your hair.
Don’t take your color through the ends, its not needed and will cause damage.
Hope this helps and remember to cover up your hair in a hat or scarf when your outside, wash it to remove perspiration build up on your scalp which in turn dries out your scalp. Don’t be scared to wash it daily as long as you are using a good product!
When you want something done to your hair and think calling around to get the cheapest you may be in for a surprise. When it’s a service not a product and rely’s on skill of delivery there could be a miss in what your dreaming about. We see it a lot and whilst we are not the cheapest we certainly are not the most expensive. If you are buying a branded pair of shoes, call all the retailers on the planet and get the cheapest, the product is the same.
If you are shopping for a plastic surgeon, hairstylist, doctor or a dentist chances are that the quality is more important than the price. We suggest coming into the salon, telling us your dream hair and your budget and let us work out how we get there. Chances are we can move towards the direction of your goals the right way, maybe maybe not but at least you will get the right advice.
Never choose discount medicine or hair, if it’s on sale chances are there is something wrong with it.
Its often said that its hard to decide what hair to have for you guys, it has even been said that Guys don’t know how to search on the internet, to that we say ok maybe they don’t but maybe we can help. Here is a haircut that works well on Indian guys and here is two options for the same thing.
So the above photo is a cut thats cool carefree and can be tamed down on the top but lends itself to being a little free and easy, whilst keeping the sides short, making it low maintenance!
More or less the same haircut but with one big difference and that is there is no undercut, a lot of guys don’t realise that if you are carrying a little extra weight or have a large forehead then having an undercut can add more weight and/or make your forehead look bigger!
If this has made you think about your hair then why not pick up the phone and give us a call
It’s not a new theory in fact it’s the same as your wardrobe, dress for success they said but no one made a fuss about your hair. In fact most people neglect to put the same effort into their hair as they do their clothes.
When you are making such an effort to send all the right signals with beautifully fitted clothes, the right colors, the perfect shoes, most up to date look yet by the time you get to your hair it’s almost like you ran out of time & money or at the very least stop bothering to see it through.
When your dressing head to toe remember the stuff on your head! It’s the one thing that you wear daily and can’t quickly change in the washroom of the club. Get hair that suits you, says what you want it to say and that works for you.
From the runways to well planned fashion editorials, colouring eyebrows is not a new thing. We have seen many times models bleaching them white so they look like they done have any or you doing yours black because it makes them look thicker.
But now there is pastel eyebrow porn, yeah we don’t see it becoming a trend that will be hitting the streets anytime soon but you never know.
We like to keep you up to date with what’s going on, often it’s nonsense but hey some days there is a lot and other days it’s like reporting a cat rescue story. That’s life
Sadly a very common problem is asking the wrong person for hair advice. You ask a plumber plumbing issues, electrician electrical problem, doctors medical problems.
How hard is it to understand hairdressers do hair, not makeup artists, not dermatologists, not fashion stylists actually hairdressers who have studied the science of hair and what it is and is not capable of.
If you head to the market and ask a random person for hair advice and we find out, trust me things are going to end badly.
If you are not familiar with road trips all we can say is sorry, possibly the most affordable fun anyone can have either solo or with your friends. After all travelling at 100km/hr your mates can not escape!
But you will want photo’s to remember it right so what about your hair? Last thing anyone wants to look back and think you looked homeless. Here is a list of things you must take on your next road trip!
Dry shampoo! Who knows where your staying or what the water or weather is like so best to carry a bottle of this to keep you looking fresh!
Sea salt spray, gives you a little texture and helps freshen your look up, just don’t go crazy with it.
Hair perfume! Yes it’s a real product by Label M. You may be sitting around a fire at night and end up smelling like char grilled wood, this will make your hair smell fresh AF
Elastic hair tie’s yes plural and always keep one extra in the car on the rear vision mirror those things tend to walk on there own!
Vegetarian or non vegetarian this happens to us all from time to time. You buy one thing but get something completely different. It’s frustrating, annoying, waste of time and just plain uff 😬
Of if the biggest training issues in hairdressing around the world is just that, clients will come in with an image in there mind, hairdressers will ask a few questions, clients ( you ) will think why are you asking so many questions I want red how hard is that!?
Because everyone has a different version of almost everything we the hairdressers have to ask loads of questions to make sure you get as close to the image in your mind as possible. As we can not open your mind up and see it, we have to ask leading questions and take our time to ensure we are on the same page. Problems occur when one or both parties are in a rush to get the process started or over when in fact you have to take the right amount of time.
Invest the right amount of time then you will not regret it for the next 2-3 months or until your hair grows out!
You make the trip every month and walk out thinking wow if only I could do it the same, but you can! Some salons believe it or not consider it part of the service to make sure you can re created it yourself once you get home. In fact isn’t that why we go to a salon anyway?
Product & technique are the two things you need to be shown, it’s one thing to have the product sitting in your bathroom it’s another to know how and when to use it!
Doesn’t matter if it’s the shampoo or conditioner to a leave in serum, if used incorrectly could mean it doesn’t work or gives you the completely wrong result.
So next time you visit a salon, make sure you are told or ask all the right questions!
When should I apply it
How much should I use
How to apply it
Where to apply it first
Can I use it daily
That way your not buying products just to fill your bathroom like you are a warehouse for Amazon.
Now when it comes to styling you need to know this also because no amount of product info is going to get you those beach waves just by applying a product!
What products, where, when, how much etc
Dry it how? Upside down? Shake it? Cool air? On high?
What does the cold button do?
What size brush?
Irons or curling wand?
Concave or straight?
How big sections?
Which way to wind it?
So many questions right! Now wonder why we give you stink eye when you spend the 45 min on your phone while sitting in the chair and we see you three days later looking like a street busker.
So your not From Hawaii but your hair washes out and goes a orange brown between visits.
It happens and it ends up making your color look like it’s out of a box and not like a rare unique zebra from a tropical island. Here is why and how to prevent it.
Your cuticle isn’t closing, the tone is being washed away. You must condition daily.
The water quality is terrible and causing the color to fade, use filtered water or bottled water. Annoying yes but it works.
Your shampoo is too destructive and has SLS which is stripping the color. Change to a sulfate free shampoo. We use Alfa Parf products which are all SLS & paraben free.
Your hair condition is ruined and the cuticle can not hold the color in because it’s too damaged. Remove damaged sections, get treatments to help close cuticle.
Do not use any oil treatment on your hair ever! It swells the cuticle and causes color to fade.
Each time you color your hair the ends do not always need color, the more you color the more damaged it gets, the more damaged the less the color holds.
If your constantly ending up orange or red then maybe adding some ash to your next color is what is needed, a lot can be done during the actual color process and the way it is mixed up as well as what you do once you leave the salon!
You grew up thinking you had black hair, everyone told you it’s black, it looks black, chances are it’s not.
When your colouring your hair to appear natural going with the color you were when you were 5,10 or even 15 is wrong. As we get older our hair changes color so whilst you may have been dark brown at 10 your 35 with some white hairs chances are it’s brown!
If you’re colouring your hair to cover the grey here are a few things to help get the best out of the time and longevity of the process.
Always go 1/2 to 1 shade lighter than your natural color
Add variation, a few highlights gives variation and therefore breaks up regrowth, giving you longer between colors.
Don’t color the ends, ever! The ends should be lighter than the roots.
Use a sulfate free shampoo and always conditioner.
Try to add a variation each visit, shade change or add some fun to eliminate boredom.
If you can manage a few of the above, you’re chances of having a color people comment on in a good way are far greater!
Gone are the days of the square or rounded hairline that looks like it was drawn on with a ruler. Hello to the 40’s hair that is rocking men’s hairstyles now!
Yes it’s true some guys have a hairline that extends past there shoulders half way down there back and let’s just admit seeing that poke out of your shirt is hardly cool or sexy.
A tapered hairline extends the life of your cut but up to 7-10 days keeping you look on point longer. It is tapering the skin into your hair, making it a seem less blend that looks clean, sorted and on trend. To make it even better, the area your grey may be showing, is cut short so it means you won’t see it for longer!
If you haven’t tried it, we seriously don’t know what you have been doing!
You may have grown up eating meat and two veg type food ( boring and a little basic ) or in India Dhal & rice. That doesn’t mean that there are not more options out there, because there are endless possibilities.
Just like your wardrobe, although obviously any hairdresser will typically lean towards black, hair color options are far greater that a base color and a few highlights. It’s your blank canvas that expresses who you are and your personality.
You don’t have to be outrageous or OTT it just has to be an extension of your personality.
Why wait, give your hair salon a call and give your hair some color!
Seems most of the country is having a sale, 50% off or end of season sale yet is that one or two new items in your wardrobe going to give you a fresh new look?
We can already hear you say “yes it will!” But chances are within minutes of your squad seeing it the shine will be gone and back in the wardrobe it will go. The sad reality is when you get something new that you love you can’t wear it daily or it risks looking like it’s the only thing you have!
Now a fresh new cut or color will have a longer WOW factor both externally to your crew as well as give you that “I feel great” feeling 24/7 no matter what you wear at a small portion of the outfit your eyeing off. Therefore it makes better sense to get yourself into the salon than heading to the mall this Monsoon!
In the heat of the moment all kinds of nonsense can happen and your judgement is typically on another planet 🌎
Too often we meet people who want a service or result that their hair simply won’t be able to manage. We as professionals always think sustainable relationship before we think about getting a “sale” after all if you don’t live your hair then you won’t come back!
Sad to say that some people try to push big ticket services just to raise turnover, we believe that’s not the way to create beautiful hair in fact it’s the opposite. When you end up doing be it a color or a chemical service that your hair really can not withstand because it’s cheap or you think you need it, by the time you call us it can be too late to fix it completely and on top of that ends up costing you more and you have downtime looking like a drowned rat vs having “Victoria Secret” hair.
Come visit us and let us say no to your crazy requests 🙊 before it’s too late!
Traditionally hair has been almost always worn long in India, almost as a sign of your femininity, yet it in fact has no weight or bearing. Beauty is individual so if you like your hair long then wear it long, if you want it short then cut it off.
Hair is your personality, if you feel good in it your personality shows which is above all the perfect look
Hair “typically” worn in a tight low bun, from the front it looks like a pixie anyway!
Eyes will be drawn to you because it screams confidence and that is Sexy
Wrapping a Sari takes time so less time for your hair = pixie
The Sari is intricate so having less fru fru hair will balance the look dramatically.
If going short has always been something you wanted to do maybe now is the right time!
Hairdressers in most parts of the world get told things that you wouldn’t dream of talking to your friends or family about. At times it makes us question reality, a lot of the time it’s therapeutic just to get things off your chest, nothing worst than bottling these things up! Certainly we are not therapists but by default we have two ears and we talk a lot so when you put it all together I guess it’s the perfect combination.
Without going into details about who what etc let’s just say it’s locked away deep in our memory, not for ammunition ( however fun that would be ). From affairs, business deals to sultry weekends of passion and all about the partners, we hear it all!
Hairdressers are the closest thing to a therapist without being a therapist.
In the search for more attention, more market share, better reach and global exploitation everyone is pushing themselves to be better that everyone else.
No excel are not doing stories like everyone else, although I’m sure the same people who simply copy everyone else would love to see figures vs what your physically doing. Reaching your target market is not about being like everyone else, standing out is not about price, it’s about being the best version of you possible. Long gone are the days when people want a “one stop shop solution” ( it’s almost considered a negative to even say it now! ) yet people and companies are still stuck in the late 90’s when boundaries were smaller and marketing and reach did not have the same mechanisms as it does today.
Problem is majority of people designing marketing plans or marketing budgets are so ( excuse me for saying this ) OLD both physically but mentally and think Facebook is the go too tool! Information in and out is what needs to stream in real time, bloggers write about things happening literally while they happen, proactive business owners do the same 24/7 because it’s who they are not what they need to be.
People buy relationships, not products and no one gets excited by a “me too” product or service, people get excited about creativity and originality.
Imagine visiting a salon and trying to explain the color and end up using food as a reference, then once you say “Nutella brown” the hairstylist brings out a jar of this!
Well one salon in Dubai ( possibly in the need for internet fame who knows ) is actually claiming it works. Now before you go out and grab yourself some delicious chocolate 🍫 spread understand even if by any miracle it did stain the hair it would wash off faster than Donald Trumps hair would fly away with a slight breeze.
Also good to note it’s a waste of perfectly awesome Nutella!
Well if we didn’t think that wasn’t going to happen, then along came the big boofy circa 1980’s hair worn with so much confidence you really start thinking is this real!
It’s the most hideous “go too” for so many and yet it’s a total mystery why, unless it’s done for an editorial shoot or the runway then if it’s done right we can swallow it
But sadly we see hair so big it needs its own pin code and a base camp if you ever want to reach the top!
On a serious note now!
Having that much fullness obviously isn’t natural and is NOT flattering at all in fact makes most look like they are part of a drag show in Bangkok in a shady bar ( absolutely not discrimination intended just setting scene)
Less is best, apart from the extra head room in your car, your hair will thank you too because that amount of spray and teasing is just not sexy!
