Going blonde with Indian skin?

It’s a frequent question does blonde hair suit Indian skin and the easiest answer is yes if it’s done correctly.  The sad reality is a lot of the time hairdressers don’t bother to either prep the hair or follow it through till then end.

It’s a long process that no matter what you have planned, what kitty party you need to get to or how busy you are it’s a process that you can’t rush. Recently Santu Misra, fashion editor dropped into the salon wanting to go blonder than Zayn Malik, but wanted it to do it overnight like Kylie Jenner. Well we heard him but gave him some facts:

  1. It’s going to take several hours
  2. There will be an unpleasant feeling on your scalp.
  3. You have to embrace the process: it (just) takes time!

So he turned up and we started and here is what happened

The yellow is halfway through a 2 hour process with two applications, yes it’s a bleach but a very mild on scalp bleach, then we toned the color two times to get the exact tone right.

The easy answer is yes it does suit darker skin tones if the tone is bang on. It’s a tedious process that involves patience and skill and is not something you shop on line for the best “deal”.

So if you always wanted to have that perfect color but been told it won’t work or even worse, you have ended up with a trashy gold blonde it’s time to call Rod Anker Salons Instagram page

Your daily dose of color

Sometimes in life you need to add an element of color!

When we talk technically about a cut, be it the structure or the way it creates the right shape for your face shape it’s about creating a look that is multi dimensional. To do that we have to use depth and tone using color.

One of the most exciting and creative things that has happened in recent years is Neon colors ( yes they glow in the dark! ) Alfa Parf Milano, has a range of Neon colors that are amazing. Now before you say ” yeah I don’t think my boss would appreciate me coming in with glow in the dark hair” it’s doesn’t have to be a solid color.

What is fantastic about this type of color is that the lasting power is second to none, lasting months without fading issues.

Depending on your comfort levels and placement, it can be something that pops only when the hair moves or it can be as loud or creative as you like, basically a unicorn or a mermaid to a little hidden pop it’s up to you.

The download on how to keep yourself protected

No we have decided to sell coloured condoms, yet we are sure that some would think we should it makes perfect sense. Well we do sexy hair, sexy hair leads to sexy times or something like that but we are not. We want to give you the 401 on maintaining your hair color.

You can do everything right and yet sometimes things still go wrong, could be the water could have been the state of your hair before you coloured it or a act of mystery but 99% of the time if the color is done properly it’s what and how you treat it when you leave the salon. Simple fact to remember the better the condition, the better the longevity of the tone and shade of color.

  • Use a sulfate free shampoo always always always
  • Always condition, yes guys too every time you wash you condition. This closes the cuticle and keeps the color from fading.
  • If it’s blonde, use a brightening shampoo like the one we stock from Label M alternate days. It’s purple and helps reduce gold or yellow pigment.
  • Don’t use oil! Do t care what your mum or grandmother say it’s wrong! It coats the hair, makes it shinny but acts like a coating on the hair shaft making moisture dry out internally hence effecting the color dramatically.
  • Don’t try and do DIY hair expecting it to look like anything on Pinterest other than a disaster. Trust professionals only.
  • Don’t shop solely on price, sad reality is whilst some will try there best to convince you they are the best yet once it’s done you will end up spending more fixing it!

So before you head to a salon and tell them what to do like your ordering your dinner at a take away do your research on line, check what work the salon does, check check and recheck. It’s your hair so do your research and once you have left the salon make sure to look after it!

When your color fades like your sex life

You meet and can hardly keep your hands off each other to make coffee and a few months/Year  later you meet with a little peck. You get your color done and it’s as hot and deep as your hottest one night stand, several weeks later it’s faded and as lifeless as your sex life!

Don’t worry we can help you with getting your color intensity back, the other stuff you will need to work on yourself but I suggest getting your color on will help you feel hot so who knows!

Alfa Parf have created Pigments ( don’t worry its s professional product so no technical info is here just the awesome results)

It work as direct color pigment and is more gentle than your regular color as it’s watered down with shampoo or can be added in with your regular color also! It creates longer lasting depth more than regular colors.

You can do it as a quick service I. Between your regular colors to freshen up the intensity so you don’t have to damage your ends doing unnecessary “global colors” that will damage and cost you money you can spend on candles or flavoured lube to fix you other problems, well because we fix hair rest is up to you to get back on track.

Before
After

So now you have no reason to have faded color. Available in multiple reflects!

Hair frizzy & fried?

You saw a photo of silky soft hair and thought yes, I want that now your left with hair that looks like frizz and neither straight or curly.

Expectations vs reality are at times different and yes the stylist should have explained it and been more truthful but whatever the issue was it needs to be fixed. Here are some solutions but we recommend visiting a professional salon to determine exactly what is needed.

  • If it’s rebonding it could be over processed which means your hair is on the verge of snapping. Olaplex will prevent it to some extent however removing some length may be only option.
  • If it’s keratin it may have reduced the curl, depending on how curly it was to start with. This may be the success and final result as best you can achieve.
  • You may have had too much color applications on top of each other which has caused the hair structure to be too weak to restructure itself.

Will a ” series of hair spa ” treatments fix this? Easy answer is never

If the structure of the hair is Brocken so badly that hair comes off ( snaps off, not from roots but mid lengths ) then the only two options you have is to either cut it off  or have consistent Olaplex or similar treatments which will rebuild and strengthen it enough to hold it together until it’s cut off.

Sadly some salons push such chemical services based on increasing revenue with little regard for quality of your hair or result and when things go south they will tell you a series of hair spa treatments will fix it. It won’t.

Advice

Before you do any chemical service do your research and remember if the hair has had any color at all and that hasn’t been cut off regardless if it looks natural, it’s still there and needs to be treated with care.

Planning a holiday with your new color?

If your planning a trip away or a holiday, half your luck but what is going to happen to your hair or how is your color going to be in the climate your going too? Is the water going to cause the color to fade?

A few days we can all live with and it’s all good but using the hotel products although some smell great are far from the best to use for maintaining color.

Things to pack

  • Get some small bottles from your local chemist and transfer enough for the time your away
  • Take a few hair ties to add options in case you don’t want to blow dry ( your o. Holidays )
  • Any styling products, keep in mind if your swimming you should be taking a leave in conditioner and a serum.
  • A wide tooth comb, sounds basic but most hotels don’t have them in there in room kit.
  • Dry shampoo, to help you get away without having to shampoo.

Now your all ready, make sure you have visited your salon just before you leave so any color Maintainence is done and will get you through your trip without stress.

Treat your hair like you do your skin!

So before you read whatever you want into this let’s set aside some not so ground breaking facts. Doesn’t matter if your growing it or simply want good growth you need to have to plan for success in whatever you do.

The basics of skin care is cleanse, tone & moisturise

Obviously or maybe not so obviously, when your cleanse your hair you must condition ( which will close the cuticle ) or the internal moisture of the hair shaft will be liable to decrease causing breakage, split ends and color fading. Yes we heard the stories too that conditioner makes your hair fall out, but we had a little chuckle because it’s a myth!

Conditioner closes the cuticle and makes the outer surface of the hair smooth, reflecting light, protecting the structural integrity of the hair or in basic terms keeping it healthy.

Steps to a healthy hair care regime

Shampoo

Choose a shampoo that looks after your problems, if it’s coloured the choose a shampoo to look after the color etc. Yes Sulfate free shampoo is always our preference as it is less harmful on the quality of the hair. We use and recommend Alfa Parf & Label M products.

Conditioner

You choose a conditioner based on the texture of your hair, regardless of the thickness all hair once it has been shampooed needs conditioning. If the conditioner your using makes it too limp your either using something too strong or possibly applying it on the wrong area, it’s for hair not scalp.

Mask or a leave in conditioner

Now depending on the quality of your hair, you may need a mask which is typically more intense than a regular conditioner and again depending on condition but would be done once a week or fortnight at home.

A leave in conditioner or a protein spray is or hair that is fine and limp, it replaces a typical conditioner and is used every time you shampoo.

Serum, this is a leave in product and used when the cuticle is stubborn AF or your hair is always on the dry side. This is done in conjunction with everything else it doesn’t replace.

So now you know what it takes to daily look after your hair, the more time you invest in getting the right products the less time and money you will need to spend in the salon. Make sure you trim regularly ( every 6-8 week ) regardlessly.

The one thing that will save your hair this winter!

Pollution levels that have shocked and  the world, a cooler climate with vertically zero moisture in the air we are headed into the most destructive climate. Without this secret weapon your hair simply won’t survive!

The miracle is called a Linseed treatment by Alfa Parf Milano.

If your “go to” has always been a hair Spa then it’s time you just forget that and spoil your hair with this life saver!

” Semi De Lino Diamanté ” linseed treatment adds shine, softness & luminosity to dry and dull hair with linseed oil complex ( omega 3 omega 6 fatty acids and vitamins). It repairs capillary fibers and seals the cuticle leaving the hair softer, smoother and retaining moisture levels in your hair.

Oh and I forgot to tell you that you won’t need 4-6 sessions or multiple add ons.  It’s one sitting, if your hair is super damaged you may need to follow it up in 3-4 weeks however for hair that is coloured or past your shoulders we recommend once every 6-8 weeks when your visiting to get your color or cut done.

When is long enough too long?

It’s always a personal thing when it comes to length what you feel more comfortable or sexier with or without. A girl with a shaved buzz cut would get far more attention than a girl with hair to her knees but yet we still see people getting their Rupuzel on.

The upside

You don’t need to carry a Shawl, you have your own

Clothes, uff you don’t need any no one will see them anyway

Bed linen, well you guessed it no need for that either

Downside

There is very little options for change or variation

The weight will cause headaches

Your hair will almost always end up in your mouth, food, bed, on your clothes or flushed down the toilet ( your imagining it now aren’t you! )

On a serious note as we said at the begining it’s a personal choice but understand that your limitations of change are fewer the longer it is.

At the end of the day, you can change the color but it is still a solid mass on your head.

If you love having hair longer hair then make sure you do the following to maintain it in the best condition

  1. Regular shampoo and conditioner. Yes condition every time. Use a sulfate free shampoo like Alfa Parf ( entire range is sulfate free) wash it every 2-3 days. The longer it is the more surface it has to collect dust pollution and dirt
  2. Regardless of length your hair needs trimming every 6-8 weeks to remove split ends.
  3. If your planning a chemical service like keratin or worst like rebounding remember to get the condition back may take 3-4 years. Don’t make a hasty decision talk to a stylist and get multiple opinions.
  4. Don’t over iron it as over time this will damage it too much, once every so often is ok
  5. Always use a leave in serum and/or conditioner to make sure the cuticle is closed.

What happens to grey hair when you color it?

So you have a few grey hairs ( 10-20) and you decide to cover it with a “global color” after a few years you decide to let it grow out and you’re shocked to find the 10-20 grey’s has now turned to 50-80!

No it’s not the color that has done anything to make you grow more, it’s the fact that it’s been completely hidden, they were multiplying the entire time and would have been regardless of you doing color or not.  Instead of a gradual increase visually it’s right up in your face in an instant.

Colouring your hair doesn’t make it grey!

Instead of having a solid block color if there is only 10-20 try highlights, doesn’t have to be super light just has to be a variation of slightly lighter to disguise the grey not cover it. It’s not only more natural it’s less maintanence.

5 reasons to use Detergent free shampoo

It’s not new, but it may be new to you but Sodium Laureth Sulfate is the detergent found in a lot of shampoo’s as well as floor cleaners, engine degreaser and your kitchen detergent and can strip you color, dry your scalp and remove your keratin.

Before you get on the phone and start calling salons getting the cheapest color known to mankind or trying to get the best deal since land on Mars went on sale let’s just put some facts down to help you make the best decision. Because getting something cheap is not always about getting it done right, having the right products to maintain color and condition you may have to initially spend more however over the course of 1-2 months it is not that much more + your hair will look amazing!

1. Sulfate free shampoo cleanses the hair but will not strip color or dry out your scalp, which can cause hair loss and dry scalp. It lathers less but still cleanses perfectly.

2. Safe to use everyday and in fact we encourage it in a polluted city or area to remove any pollutants, perspiration on the hair and scalp. Not shampooing daily can in fact do more damage to your growth than you think, causing bacterial infections and dry scalp.

3. When your conscious of what your using you tend to use the suggested amount and not waste it so in fact it will work out cheaper than your no name or mass product ever would.

4. Condition of your hair dramatically improves as it is not causing excessive stress on the cuticle every time you use it.

5. Colors last longer and stay true to tone longer so your not left with brassy or golden hair which can look half done.

We suggest Alfa Parf shampoo which the entire range is sulfate free and has natural extracts to enhance shine and maintain condition.

5 ways to get your hair to shine now

Well it’s coming up to festival time in India and everyone wants overnight results. If you had of been reading our posts throughout the year or visiting our salon you could save yourself the drama and stop here. In case your not please pay attention now and then give us a call.

1. Refreshing that color, it adds to the hairshaft and close the cuticle which will reflect more light.

2. A clear color, yes you heard me it’s a clear gloss which its only job is to add a clear sheen to reflect light.

3. Get a Linseed treatment, closes the cuticle adds moisture to the structure of the hair and will make it shine and feel amazing! ( do this monthly your hair will thank you!)

4. A weightless serum like Alfa Parf cristali liquid or the Diamond drops, weightless and adds shine and UV protection.

5. Use a shine spray! Be careful not to use too much or it will make it look oily.

Now obviously the best treatment is prevention, your hair should always be ready so having the right hair are regime and stylist is always better than trying to get overnight results. Either way your on the right track now so enjoy!

5 things to know before you become a mermaid

Anyone on social media will have seen hundreds if not thousands of pastel colors, some real some fake and possibly a few of you have thought about it ( maybe only for the sheer shock value ). Well before you pick up the phone and call your local salon here are a few facts to think about before you take the plunge in the deep.

1. You can’t create this look in 1 hour, 2 hours and most likely 3 unless your hair is already very light. It needs to be lightened. How much depends on the final result and how dark your hair is.

2. Once your hair is lightened the pastel color is applied, the more even the hair is in depth & tone the more even the pastel tone will be.

3. How long will it last? Well I would typically say 3-4 weeks if it’s looked after but depends on tone, depth etc etc.

4. You have to use a sulfate free shampoo ( detergent free ) to reduce fading and maintain intensity. You have to use conditioner every time you shampoo to make sure cuticle is closed.

5. Can you do it and color it back if you don’t like it? The easy answer is is yes however you need to be sure beforehand unless you have unbelievable condition hair and have loads of time and money or it’s just a waste.

Now there is a lot more to it and we suggest you see someone’s work before trusting anyone with this as it is easy to miss the goal and get average when with a little more effort and training it could have been incredible.

Sulfate free shampoo is the new normal

It seems like only a few short years ago that finding a Sulfate free shampoo was a challenge let alone find people who knew about it and the benefits.

One of the reasons why we use Alfa Parf both professionally and retail is because it was one of the first to ensure all of their products are Solfate & Parabin free.

What does this mean?

It means so much in terms of Color and the intensity of your Color lasting longer.

The Ph value of your scalp is maintained between 4.5-5.5 as it should be for maintaining healthy growth.

The internal moisture of your hair is not stripped, the cuticle is not stretched too wide so it remains stronger and is able to close tighter therefore making it glow and shine more ( less frizz )

A hair are brand that’s first priority is hair integrity vs anything else is a brand I certainly want to use hence its our key product in all of our salons. If you have not used or experienced Alfa Parf you really must you will love it!

Understand you want have the bathroom over flowing with bubbles because Sodium Laureth Sulfate is the detergent in the shampoo so expect less bubbles.

Healthy choices for your hair

With a large shift globally of us all choosing more natural food, less processed and more organic and ethically produced produce it only makes sense at some point we question our hair choices. So many myths, blogs, advice and DIY information out there that almost always contradicts itself.

Here is my tips for things you can stop, start or continue depending on what your currently doing.

1. Shampoo choice – depending on the state of your hair, if you have color, damage, fine, thick etc etc but a sulfate free shampoo or one that is low in sulfate like “organic” by Label M is ideal. Will cleanse gently but not strip color or moisture. Once a week using a deep cleansing shampoo to remove any pollution or impurities is a must also. Keeping in mind when you shampoo you must condition every time ( just your hair ) shampoo daily or very least alternate days.

2. Rebonding is in my opinion one of the most aggressive things you can do to your hair and creates a nightmare long term for both styling as well as Maintainence. Alternative is Keratin ( fermaldehyde free) we use Global Keratin.

3. Regular trims, yes 6-8 weeks and if the thought scares you is probly to do with the scissor happy hairdresser you go to so change. Removing and split ends is essential for healthy looking & behaving hair.

4. The most over used word in Asia is HAIR SPA peeps understand majority are beautifully packaged conditioners. You need protein and moisture and treatment will do that so repairing damage is part of the purpose and a lot simply can’t do that. We use ALFA Parf linseed treatment and Olaplex.

5. Styling, a lot of hairstylist burn, pull when styling your hair and this if done weekly will create damage that only scissors can remove. A blow dry should never really be felt let alone be painful.

If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you already have. Hair you love starts with a few choices by you.

Natural is the new black

There has been a mass exodus on overdone hair that’s high Maintainence and just plain too stiff.  Good thing too, none us have the time and none of us want to see it anymore.

If your trying to make the transition it can be a little rough because no matter what anyone says you may feel as tho your hair looks a little messy.  Here are some tips and tricks to try. Hope it helps

1. Use a leave in serum when the hair is wet, closes the cuticle and reduces frizz ( check out Alfa Parf Cristali liquid )

2. Don’t blowdry, pat dry only and don’t be tempted to comb or brush once your out of the shower.

3. Until you get used to the look products are your best friend, it’s all about texture & control. Have a few in the bathroom like a leave in conditioner, sea salt spray and a paste or light creme styler.

Once the hair is dry a few pumps of sea salt at the roots will add movement and texture. If it’s getting a little fly away or frizzy try a light creme on the ends or a few pumps of leave in conditioner will sort that out fairly fast.

Now just because you want it to look like you haven’t done it, don’t think you don’t have to do anything! In fact you still need to be visiting the salon every 6-8 weeks it’s important to maintain the foundation and condition of your hair.
