Is your hair being deep fried like a samosa?
We get asked a fair bit about why some stylist pull the hair so much when blow drying, as well as the more serious one ” why is there smoke coming off my head?”
Signs that you need to change salons
If the brushes they use are all melted and the plastic is literally not there, it should be clean and the bristles in tact, like this brush that is used daily in our salon for the last 6 months!
Combing out your hair shouldn’t hurt, always start from the bottom and work your way up. Firstly a little serum or leave in conditioner to make sure there is lubrication.
If it’s pulling, chances are hair is being pulled out!
Smoke coming from your head like it’s on fire?
I would think this is kind of obvious, yet it still happens in 2016. Girls this is NOT NORMAL. The only time you could possibly has a slight smokey reside “burn off” is when your doing a keratin treatment but it’s very very slight. If your hair has a coating of oil ( read below why oiling is a complete no no!) then the resedue or build up is most likely taking the temperature of your hair to burning point!
“Oil residue plus heat creates higher temperatures than hair can withstand causing unrepairable damage”
They tell you you need to do a weekly ” hair spa” screams Rip off to me!
We know the salon business and the tricks that go on with the idea the consumer doesn’t know or won’t care however the concept of “hair spa” and the entire industry pushing it harder than the Trump vote the night before elections is kind of insulting. If your hair is that damaged the only two options you have are cutting it off or Olaplex to repair the internal structure. We have a linseed treatment that strengthens the cuticle and adds moisture to assist in no further damage.
If they put you under heat or steam, this causes stress on the cuticle and swells it so for a few days it feels smooth!
So there is a lot more to hair and choosing a salon than the attractive rate card, it’s about education and training.
