We get referred to as a “parlour” a lot and majority of the time it’s out of habit more than anything else and let’s be honest the word itself isn’t insulting or hideous it’s the innuendo of it that is. Typically a parlour is a place you go to that your mum went too, your auntie goes too and if you want a quick blow out, you end up going too!
The problem arises from training and skills set, a lot of people still think you learn hair then that’s it, you can be doing it for the rest of your life, others think the occasional brush up of skills, getting a certificate and a selfie with the trainer makes you awesome but it couldn’t be further from reality.
Learning the basics about hair is obviously essential but developing the skills needed on a daily basis takes time as well as evolving those skills to be able to perform daily on an ever changing demand takes an openness to learn and eagerness to be the best.
“When you are green you are growing, when you are ripe you are rotten”
Read it again, that’s right, when you know it all you are finished, done and have nothing left! We all need to grow and develop our skills daily to be better today than we were yesterday and not think you are the best, chances are when your mind is in that head space you most likely have lost it.
Be open to new ideas, be ready to change and be willing to put yourself out there! That’s what being the best is all about, don’t settle!
