It’s such a common phrase, some people have the best excuses and at times it would be easy to sit down and give up, not try, not put in effort and maybe just maybe most people would. But we are put on this earth, given life and it’s a gift, shouldn’t you make the most of it?
Shouldn’t you be a positive influence in people’s lives? Isn’t that what it’s about?
Any bloke with a beard will tell you that at times it gets itch as hell, you just want to scratch it till your face falls off. Obviously doing this in public sends off jungle man vibes ( and not in a Tarzan good way ) so it’s best to follow a few rules to keep the skin and face healthy to avoid this.
Wash your beard daily, you can use the same shampoo as you do for your hair, beat to use a Sulfate & Parabin free products they are gentle. If you have a longer beard wash it after eating to make sure there is no food left it it 🙊
Condition only the ends of your beard, do not apply the conditioner on your face. Comb it with the conditioner in
Moisturise your skin under your beard.
Do not! Apply oils on your face.
Sadly a lot of guys tend to neglect your skin and when you have a beard the general thought is its low maintanence, which is true however there are things you need to do so it is easier but also looks groomed.
Trimming your beard should be done every 2-3 weeks to keep it in shape, whilst it grows at the same speed as the rest of your hair, it can get out of shape faster.
Well there can come a time when you end up looking not as natural as you thought and if no one told you and you figured it out yourself, it’s maybe a little late.
Sure you were born with dark brown ( maybe black hair ) but your pushing 40 and it’s not black any more in fact it’s 70-80% white. You spend an hour in the salon every fortnight getting the regrowth touched up and honestly life has become a drag when it comes to hair?
So how do you manage to grow it out? How do you get off this roller coaster? Well it’s ok here are a few hints to get you started without having to hide yourself away for 6 months.
Start going one shade lighter so the regrowth difference is not as stark hence you won’t notice it as much. Do this for 6 weeks or two times.
Highlights, yes this is an option but not blonde! A few highlights on the top layers ( fine) can add another variation to the darkness and distract the eye from the regrowth.
Avoid cutting it for now, get some extra length so when the time is right removing it will also remove more “black”
Avoid coloring the ends of your hair, the ends need to appear lighter in order to look natural
When you first started coloring chances are you were not thinking about this time when you would be happy to let the greys be more visible but it’s come. The key to understanding how to manage it is you need to get your coloured hair lighter in order for the regrowth not to be so obvious.
We use a technique called ” Fusion blend ” designed by Rod Anker Salons that gives you freedom as well as a look that is on trend. It is a combination of taking parts of your grey and using that to distract the eye so your left with a more softer blended color that lasts weeks longer without looking bad!
Keeping your color on tone from visit to visit to your salon takes effort ( not much so chill ) but it does require a little planning.
Warm browns when they fade can end up looking a gastly shade or Orange 🍊 or copper and no matter what you want to call it, if it’s not on purpose it can end up looking like a cheap box color so here is how to make sure your color stays on fleek.
Wash with a sulfate free shampoo
Always use conditioner it closes the cuticle and keeps the color from fading and color molecules shrinking
Use a leave in serum or protein spray. This helps added UV protection.
Don’t over process your hair, some people think you need color on the ends each visit when in fact it’s like a one in every 3-4 touch up thing ONLY when it’s not looking right.
Don’t over do it chemically, if your straightening and coloring chances are your reading this and thinking yeah that’s me, we don’t do straightening or smoothening for a reason, it’s too aggressive causing the hair to be so damaged it won’t hold color! Try keratin it’s not going to ruin your hair!
Yes you can wash it daily, as long as it’s sulfate free shampoo and as long as you condition it each time.
Well if your still doing the flick, your now officially last season beach waves 🌊 are the coolest and only way you should be wearing your hair!
Now to get this it is NOT done with your typical tongs so please don’t try, it’s done with concave tongs! We use and reccomend Alan Truman curling tongs. Once you wear your hair like this you will never want the old you! This is easy, on trend and downright sexy af!
Give us a call you know you want too!
Your mum says every 2-3 days is fine, your grandmother would say once a week, you’ve asked several hairdressers and they all say ok ok well here are the facts.
If you stay inside 24/7 in a climate controlled environment, without stepping outside or exercising then your good for 2 days for every normal person on the planet every day and here is why.
We perspire and when we do it dries up on your skin/scalp leaving the dried up sweat 💦 on your scalp or skin is an open invitation to bacteria.
You go outside, fumes pollution all are attracted to your hair ( not because it’s on fleek ) but because it absorbs what’s in the air, this needs removing or will create film on your hair/scalp which again may cause bacterial infections
When the natural oils are excreted from sebum glands it stays on your scalp which is good and bad however to have the healthy PH value on your scalp too much will alter that creating havoc for healthy hair growth.
Washing every day is not only ok, it’s required and in some situations twice is needed if the heat or pollution is excessive. Always use a conditioner or your cuticle will be left open making your hair dehydrated and will cause split ends.
Use a sulfate free shampo, we use and reccomend Alfa Parf products.
We have all been there, you went for a trim and the hairdresser but too much off right?
We believe that an indepth conversation about your hair that goes way beyond ” how much do you want off today?” Is the key to getting the perfect haircut. This is about finding out a lot more than just how much you want cut off, you might be having styling issues, you may be moving towards longer hair, change of season, have a lot of damage etc etc and there is always options and it’s never about us doing what we want. In fact it has nothing to do with us and everything to do with you. We use a dry cutting technique to work with natural movement and flow of hair which also ensures no surprises on length once it dries! It’s not just a simple process of cutting it dry, it’s a technical technique trained originating in a Japan that ensures wash and go ease.
We suggest if your hairstylist is not paying enough attention before the cut then it may be time for a change.
Selfie 🤳 game has reportingly at an all time high and there has even been reports of people having a condition from over exposure to “bad selfies” on Facebook and Instagram. Some go to all sorts of lengths 🏊🏼 in order to fill their feed with incredible images.
All we say is make sure you hair is right, color on fleek and for the love of God, don’t do the side hair flip in every single photo, it looks kinda odd!
If you need help, drop in and see us we will help with a few handy hints and styling options.
If you have ever wanted chocolate brown hair you will know that there is a zillion variations of it, because chocolate comes in almost black to white so let’s just assume we are are talking above the most common yummy chocolate brown like this one 👇🏻 ( bottom left corner )
Now achieving this is fairly basic if your hair has not been colored or has any chemical services but I guess that’s as rare as cheap weekend away so let’s just push that aside for now.
Now chocolate is a combination of warm tones that include gold & brown. To maintain this tone requires follow through on your part which if done you will look delicious for the 6 week gap between visits.
Understand color is not color, there is a huge amount of variables that need to be taken into consideration, one brand is NOT the same as the next and depending on what your color is prior to the chocolate as to how it will hold and the end result achieved.
Now Maintainence doesn’t have to be a nasty word that makes you think of expensive products and countless trips back to the salon but does require a commitment.
We reccomend a sulfate free shampoo and condition daily, if you do not close the cuticle your color will literally wash out before your eyes!
Things to use
Sulfate free shampoo we use and reccomend Alfa Parf Milano products.
A leave in serum and/or conditioner to make sure the cuticle is closed.
Alfa Parf has a product called pigments ( it’s not a DIY or at home product ) but if any fade does occur it can be applied between visits and is safe and conditioning, pure color pigment which will lock inside your hair and assist in tone change.
Always have an indepth chat with your stylist before and color on condition, Maintainence and always forward plan your next look.
Basic Education happens in school then it all starts and what a or of people don’t get or want to accept is that after your out of school then the hard work starts!
So you can now count apples 🍎 but once you enter the real world, to be successful for the rest of your life it’s education and learning not an apple counting game.
Hairdressing is about learning and developing a skill which takes years which no one has the right to say they know everything, it’s a lifetime journey. At times the people who need it most think they know it all, sad 😭
So anyway we are looking for heads to train 🚂 on and develop our skills. We hold sessions twice a week and if you or anyone you know be up for it trust me it’s the best hair you will have free ( color excluded ) and all under supervision of our trainer.
Contact us through FB or Instagram and slide us a DM for more info.
When do you stop fighting with nature and just cut it off?
Now considering a lot of men hold on to their hair as if it’s the last line of defence in a war on manliness we have to at times ( us guys ) realize that enough is enough and it’s really not looking natural anymore. There come a point when everyone can see what your trying to do and by you combing it over makes it more obvious and you need to stop!
Yes you could go down the hair transplant road, use the black powder ( topic ) which make you look like your trying to be 25 but your more like 85 even tho your 40. Being real is more valuable and more attractive than being fake anyway and whilst it may feel weird loosing your hair, it will be in fact liberating to just say f%# it and shave it off!
If your getting to the end of the line and it may be time to stop either coloring it black ( because you think it looks thicker ) or comb it over from the back or sides to cover it then it’s time to re-evaluate the entire thing and get some options. We are here for you, come sit and chat about how you can become the ultimate chic magnet and save money and time in the process!
The temperature is on the rise and as a community announcement we thought we needed to remind you of a few hair care FACTS
It’s true, we all believe what we want to believe but there is fact and fiction.
Here are a few more common things that do more harm than good and you should not do!
Oil on your hair, leaves a film which accelerates heat dehydrating the hair causing damage like split ends, color fading and possible scalp bacteria hence actually could lead to hair loss!
Onion juice, no seriously apart from the smell ( which FYI is disgusting for days! ) doesn’t nothing for your hair, the thought that the juice somehow penetrates into the skin through to to the root of the hair and does anything is beyond realistic!
Rubbing ginger on your scalp, again 🤐 it creates warmth on your scalp which makes you think it’s beneficial but nothing
Fish oil………creates and breeds bacteria and is possibly the most anti social DIY Ever heard of
Egg 🍳- hair outside your scalp is dead keratin. Fry it put it in between two pieces of hair and eat it!
Beer 🍻 the yeast in beer sweeps the cuticle making it appear shinny hence you think it help. Yeast is bacteria, bacteria breeds infection so drink it.
Hope that helps in understanding the facts when it comes to Summer hair care!
Start summer with a trim, remove the split ends, rehydrate using a linseed treatment ( which your hair will love! ) and repeat process every 6-8 weeks.
It can be a shock when the sun comes up and the headbands are out, the last season top knot is out and beside you is something from planet of the apes 🦍
Guys, home hair care is as important for you if not more! Guys don’t wear makeup ( well most don’t ) so with the one task we have we should be game on at level 10, 24/7.
Best to plan ahead, have a plan A and a plan B ( we are referring to your hair!) Carry some serum if it’s long so you don’t look like a sea creature the next day. Always replace hair tie if your hair is long, nothing more disgusting than a hair tie that is covered with hair, if it has lost its elastic it also is not doing its job.
Next time you get your hair cut ( should be every 5-6 weeks ) get some options on how to wear it different ways. Otherwise you become boring to look at.
If you have never had 2 sometimes 3 or 4 people doing you hair at the same time your what’s called lucky!
Recently I was told about a visit to a salon that a ( now client) had 4 people doing her hair, two holding the hairdryer and two holding brushes! For India it seems like the way it’s done, no idea why or how as it creates zero control of the hair, 100% burning the hair and besides sadly 4 guys surrounding you with at times little or no regard to personal hygiene!
Sorry to break it to you all but this is not a hair factory or a made in China situation, it’s someone’s hair, someone’s time.
Holding the brush and dryer as one person is essential to control the blow dry, to control the heat so you do not burn the hair.
If the salon you go to does this, say goodbye and give us a call!
Hair color looks different in different light, if you have ever got your color done then gone home only to realise it looks completely different!
Now you can’t walk around with coloured paper to make sure the reflects right so it’s best to check it out in soft daylight. We have a combination on warm and cool lights in the salon specifically for this, it’s creating the perfect balance for the exact color to be seen on your hair before you leave the salon.
Sure it’s cheaper to use LED lights, hence a lot of salons use only these and it’s certainly better for the environment but it’s creating the exact mix that’s super important.
No more need for injections or a scalpel to get your hair growth issues in order!
Yes ok you got me, there is no cure! But we will say a few things to clear the air so there is no bad feelings and you didn’t end up opening this as a total waste of time, because we know your doing this at work and time is money!
Ok so you have googled it to the end of the planet and still can’t find a cure, maybe there isn’t one?
Hair growth is for the most part hereditary and portion effected by what you eat, the environment and small portion to what goes on your head. Hair grows inside your body not outside, oils and lotions are topical meaning the best they can do is penetrate the first layer of your skin ( at best ) so in short anything you put on your scalp thinking it’s going to make it grow back or make it grow thicker is in fact false.
What you need!
Sounds basic but you need a good hair care regime, a good cleanser and a routine that does not allow bacteria to grow on your scalp as this is a huge contributor to infection which then leads to increase hair loss. Problem you will tell us is you only want to wash it every third day because you needs to blow dry it bla bla bla. Well decide what you want, hair or good hair this week?
Now your scalp perspires and there is dirt and pollution in the air and it needs to be removed so daily is always the best when it comes to shampooing. Use a sulfate & parabin free shampoo. We use Alfa Parf but if you want to research please do and get one.
Now before you start putting oils or lotions on your scalp which will do nothing but block the pores and attract pollution, coat your hair and dehydrate it more than anything else. Get the basics right.
You have dreamt of getting that unicorn 🦄 hair or you want desperately to become a mermaid then stop eating fairy bread ( if it looks like this please bring us some 🤦🏼♀️ ) and get yourself into see us!
It’s not a DIY job it’s best left to us!
Call us today 011-41010011
Kind of an obvious observation but kind of needs to be said too, this is hair for sale, it’s a product.
When you go to a salon, your getting your hair done, it’s a service.
Service revolves around the delivery of the service whilst a product is just a product, the brand may change but the product remains the same.
Some salons sell services like they are a product yet when you go to a salon the fundamental thing your getting done is service, it’s quality depends on the people delivering it. If the people are not right then the service is bad and then the end result product. We are not a product, although we sell product we are about hair.
We are a service based salon, we aim to deliver the best every time!
Yes we color hair and it’s something we specialise in. We use Alfa Parf which is an Italian brand and its lower in chemical content than other well known brands in India and around the world.
The quality of the color far surpasses other brands and the tone retention is far greater. They also have a full home hair care range which we stick because again it’s possibly the best we have ever used, it’s sulfate & paraben free not one product, all of them!
So if your color sucks and you want to have color other than black or gold then call us
Meherchand Market 011-41010011
A lot of times the intensity of your color completely depends on home hair care, now this is where things get complicated. You ask one hairstylist they tell you this one ask another they tell you that one. So who do you believe?
Well regardless of the marketing campaign or the ignorance of some hairstylists or even salons sadly you need to be using a sulfate free shampoo, it’s labelled on the back of the bottle as sodium laureth sulfate or SLS or SLES ( Read what it is here ) and paraben free ( Read here ) and to be honest getting these products has been challenging to find till recently.
A lot of companies who spend millions of dollars and simply put ” color protection ” on the bottle thinking that’s enough to keep you happy when in fact it means very little if they still pump it full of detergent using to clean engines!
We use Alfa Parf Milano which the entire range is both sulfate & paraben free!
So don’t spend a fortune getting the perfect color the wash it away with shampoo that clearly isn’t worth it to you or anyone else.
Imagine visiting a salon and trying to explain the color and end up using food as a reference, then once you say “Nutella brown” the hairstylist brings out a jar of this!
Well one salon in Dubai ( possibly in the need for internet fame who knows ) is actually claiming it works. Now before you go out and grab yourself some delicious chocolate 🍫 spread understand even if by any miracle it did stain the hair it would wash off faster than Donald Trumps hair would fly away with a slight breeze.
Also good to note it’s a waste of perfectly awesome Nutella!
So here it is a token DIY post because we live in a material world and the land of no budgets, everyone wants a solution that even as far fetched it may, just may work wonders!
But guess what, it doesn’t. The reality is this if you want to shave your head please feel free to do it at home, I do lol. If you think you can cut your bangs, well we don’t charge our clients for that anyway so why on earth would you?
If your thinking of coloring, chances are to get the right color you would need to invest more money in total than what it would cost for us to do it. But if you did do it then chances are ( not saying your not awesome but some things take years to learn can’t be learnt on YouTube )
Using food, oils and all sorts of mixtures as a miracle treatment for damaged hair? Reality is foods and oils in fact can create bacteria on the scalp which in turn may end up causing either hair loss or dry scalp! There are two treatments we recommend 1. linseed treatments by Alfa Parf 2.Olaplex if the hair is fried dead!
We encourage you to blow it out by yourself and are always here to rectify if when things go south. If your on a budget and we all are we suggest dropping in having a chat and seeing how the result can be achieved within your limits and get hair you love.
Imagine you go shopping to buy a car, You would think it’s expected that tyres come with it no?
Well some Salons ( most in India ) charge you for shampoo & conditioner as an extra, I guess for some it’s ok to not wash hair?
If your getting a blow out to getting a color just heads up we do not charge you anything for it, it’s included because we know it needs to be done in order for us to perform our work so it goes without saying it’s included.
So next time you see a car with no wheels or a salon charging you for shampoo & conditioner laugh 😂 then give us a call.
You could be a lazy bum, CEO, rich brat, Hollywood or Bollywood celebrity or just don’t like visiting a salon it doesn’t matter sometimes we all like what we like and if you want your hair done in the middle of the desert or poolside at your place to mid flight between meetings then yes we do cater to you!
When it comes to hair we have been requested all sorts of things, it’s not odd to want what you want, it’s odd not to ask for what you want.
If you don’t ask the answer is always no!
So if you have a request for your hair to be done in a certain location give us a shout, it may require some extra work at the back end and of course it comes at a cost but what doesn’t. We go anywhere anytime!
You don’t need to download a stupid app you don’t have space for just Email us to find out more
Get fuller hair, stop hair fall, get more shine, grow your hair faster!
All totally false claims aimed at making you feel like your missing out in something and a lot of major companies do it! Sure there may be things you genuinely don’t like about yourself and that’s ok I guess it’s kinda normal I don’t know many people who couldn’t give you one thing they don’t love about themselves.
What we have to remember is the crazy cycle of life, we work hard to buy things we don’t really need so we feel better about ourselves, once we do it we wish we didn’t have to work so much so we could enjoy freedom. See what we mean?
Keep it all in perspective
Companies that claim to be the biggest, the best, the fastest, the cheapest or the most awarded really don’t cut it. What you need to do is buy into what feels right because of the brand not in search of a miracle product that will change your life. Only you can do that.
Hairdressers, typically get an insight into the life of the people sitting in the chair more than family and at times closer than husbands and wives. We listen, we talk and we connect, it’s a relationship that is hard to define at times.
But make no mistake there are some things that make us want to pick you up and shake you until you stop doing them ( obviously the personal habbits aside ).
The 5 things we want you to stop now!
Don’t make appointments and be so late then expect us to drop everything because your finally ready. Respect everyone’s time, 10 min is a lot when your appointment may be only 30min
Bring in references we love them but don’t expect miracles in one sitting, at times it takes time for a transition.
Come in and talk with us about hair, ask loads of questions it honestly makes us happy. Come in and get a DIY on how to do it yourself and I assure you not only will your hair will regret it but you will when it costs you twice as much to fix it.
Don’t skip appointments your hair needs trimming every 6-8 weeks regardless of how long it is or how long you want to grow it.
Stop overdoing things and then expecting the best out of your hair, too much color, too many changes of color, too much heat styling and the list goes on.
No this doesn’t mean we don’t love you it just means we have to be on the same page if it’s going to be a long term love that’s all.
Do you do it, will it suit you, How will you style it……
Now depending on exactly your face shape and texture, movement of your hair what will work the best so the only way we can tell is by seeing your face and having a chat! Save your fav bangs drop in and ask us
Our cutting technique makes sure the hair behaves the way it is intended.
So your friend started telling you a story, it was a great story and halfway they stopped dead and didn’t finish it.
Getting our point yet?
We are a hair salon, we spend our time and energy on education and developing skills set both technically as well as personality not on creating complicated deals or packages to get you to spend money you don’t need too!
Hairdressing is an art and not about doing a course then sitting back and saying you know it all because it simply doesn’t work that way.
Come see for yourself what we do and how we do it?
This generation seem to sleep less and are more in touch with everything everywhere, but when it comes to getting out of bed we all need or maybe want an extra 20-30 min extra if we are honest!
So how to do it?
Well it sounds so basic you may want to skip to end but it’s really simple.
Hair grows in certain ways on various parts of your hair, it falls in a certain direction, creating bumps, waves and weight in a way that is unique to you and your hair! No two heads are the same!
We cut hair both wet and dry, not just the act of washing it or not washing it but it is the way we can predict the movement long after you have left the salon and are home alone on a Saturday night trying to get ready.
Now before you go book yourself into your local salon please understand this, just cutting your hair dry will never ever ever be the same. It is a science of hair movement that we train on and takes years to understand as well as having the correct tools.
If the hair is cut correctly there is no need for constant blow outs, unless your planning a more formal look or just want to treat yourself.
So now you don’t have to worry about your hair as much in the mornings and you can sleep in a little.
It’s a shower, you clean yourself and let’s be honest you should be doing it everyday if not twice if you’re a little obsessive.
If you like a lot of people you have a little of this, a little of that, a jar practically the only thing left is the fragarance and you can’t bring yourself to throw it out.
Clean up your bathroom!
Go get all the bottles now and start by putting in the bin the ones you have actually finished, the ones that are almost empty put in the bin! Before you buy anything else this all needs to be used up or given away. The shampoo and co dictionary your using now is not the same as it was 2 years ago.
Once your done and finished with all these bottles or found a home for them, then it’s time to get into the salon and plan your hair care regime with intention. But until you make the effort in the bathroom nothing will follow suit.
It’s 2017, we have boys dressing as girls and girls dressing as boys ( or at least your perception of what certain genders are meant to wear) We have a guy in power in America who is possibly the most racist person this generation has ever seen! Let’s all stop judging and trying to label things that 10-20 years ago was nothing other than someone wants to wear there hair a certain way.
Who said short hair is for guys and long hair is for girls! We have seen short hair on girls look hot and long hair on guys look completely meant to be. It’s not about putting it into a box and calling it any gender it’s hair, you don’t have to put things in Boxes.
Wear your hair how you want, please only yourself, it doesn’t define who you are, it makes you feel good about yourself and that is all that matters!
Well our take on curl is if it’s maintained correctly you won’t look like a old mop head and you can let it be, chances are you treat it like crap, color it to inches of its life and expect a trim to fix all your problems.
For those people you need education and for the small minority who actually need it, we do Keratin treatment.
What is Keratin a treatment ?
It infuses hydrolized keratin back into the hair, using heat to secure it. If looked after can last 3-4 months however we do not recommend on coloured hair.
How do you look after it?
Sulfate free shampoo ( SLS FREE ) that’s the nasty detergent in shampoo. Alfa Parf entire range contains zero SLS so your all good!
Does it make your hair poker straight?
200% no, it relaxes the curl or frizz by 30-40%
Does it strengthen the hair or cause damage?
Well it certainly doesn’t strengthen it, it’s applied using heated irons @ 200-220 degrees 3-4 times so that is where the damage is done. If there is a lot of highlights and the hair is fine we do not recommend it. It is not a solution to fix Brocken hair, in fact it will make matters worst. Seek professional advice!
Global Keratin is it safe?
GK Keratin is one of the first companies in the world to have Fermaldahyde free product as well as the gas emitted. It’s not a carcenagetic and 100% safe. It’s NOT a treatment or a solution for damaged hair, it helps control frizz and curl not fix damaged hair.
Is it expensive?
Depending on the length and thickness no it’s not but that is subjective. We know how to do it properly and we don’t play around with this as it can cause a lot of damage, if your hair won’t take it or doesn’t need it we are possibly the only ones that happily say no!
Drop in or give us a call to get all the info 011-41010011
So second time around veteran of color Awoka went steel grey and it’s looking awesome!
It’s become a color high in demand so we wanted to share a few things with you so you can make the right decision if this is for you or just a phase. Although nothing is permanent, it grows out and if you wait long enough you may just end up totally grey anyway right so what’s stopping you! What’s involved and can I do it myself at home?
That’s kind of like asking a chef give me the recipe I want to make this at home right?! Even if we gave you a step by step it’s hardly something that years of training would could match up too that’s why it’s always a better result to get it done professionally.
Firstly it needs to be lightened to the most pale white blonde and depending on the exact shade of the result toned to give the final result. Now blonde colors are endless, rose blonde, Sandy blonde, ash blonde, Snow White, ash blonde, dirty blonde and the lost could go on and on hence it is completely subjective.
If your thinking about going dramatic we suggest seeking professional advice, whilst it’s not cheap, to get even close to what your heart wants requires patience and skill, often several applications of color and change of plans depending on the results in real time.
How do you keep it this time?
Now here is the interesting part considering the water quality varies in every part of the world the tone can fade fairly fast so you need to take proper care. Use a sulfate free shampoo, always condition. A toning shampoo ( purple which counteracts the gold or yellow pigments ) can be used every second day to keep it perfect. Get the right advice and always get the hairstylist to show your there work before you take the plunge!
Products we use and recommend are Alfa Parf Milano!
Fashion week in India is upon us and we wanted to share what’s happening in terms of hair globally as it can completely change the look as well as a collection.
Imagine a nice clean collection, clubbed together with heavily dressed hair that’s intricate and colorful, there is no connect right?
It has to have a synergy with your clothes and overall look, it’s never a last minute thing, it’s well planned and is part of the overall look
If your outfit is heavily constructed it doesn’t always mean your hair has to be the same, at times when the clothes are so intricately constructed the hair HAS to be simplified or you could end up looking like your heading to a fancy dress party.
If your planning on being there, give us a call we are only a short drive from the venue and you can get your hair on point and be back at the show in no time.
You only say goodbye to something when it’s not working and no matter how much fun, love or good times if you can’t fix it then it’s time to say ” see ya wouldn’t want to be ya”
Could be your hairdresser who still tells you to make your hair poker straight or it could be those straightening irons you got in 2005 that were state of the art with the best technology then but it’s years later and the technology is so much better.
Every now and then it’s a good idea to pull them out, dust them off and check the condition of them & clean them. Too much of anything can be bad so don’t use them more than twice a week and always use a heat protector when using. The irons and electrical equipment we use and recommend is Alan Truman
The reality is a lot of people have got into this business to exploit, both consumers as well as the industry, to get as much out of it as possible at any cost with little or no regard for hair, integrity or reputation.
The flip side of this reality is that thankfully the consumer is catching up especially in areas that has been most effected.
20-30 years ago in the west it was exactly the same, make as much as you can as fast as you can, like a kid that’s been given free range at the candy store with eyes bigger than his belly. What happens is eventually what you promise can’t be delivered because your only focus was maximising turnover versus maxamizing quality and building relationships. It should never be about rebates or group discount over quality and Developement.
Our philosophy is simple, if your better off with it then without it, then we will tell you otherwise we won’t. The only focus is on helping you have the hair you want everyday, not just getting the biggest sale from you.
Now not all salons are like this but the trend is this, do everything, do deals, coupons, discount etc and people will try it, the reality is the people you attract only want it because it’s cheap, they don’t want quality nor understand it, they want cheap. We educate hairstylists around India but also throughout the world and this is bought up almost every single time. Hairdresser get it but sadly others don’t.
Alfa Parf Milano values are about sustainable hairdressing, education and a long term relationship inward as well as outward and that’s why we choose them to be our primary product of choice.
Sure you may not be a rockstar with a hairdresser looking after your daily issues, your go to may be a top knot or a low pony and to be honest it’s getting a little boring!
But you don’t want to cut it, you don’t want to layer it or cut a fringe so what’s left? You visit the salon and say ” don’t cut the length, I don’t wants bangs, I like the color make me look different. We are guessing the hairdresser probly thinks your crackers.
You may just need styling options, then in that case head in and discuss that with your stylist. If your serious about a change something either needs to be added or subtracted from what’s on your head, this may mean color, it may be some layering but something has to happen in order for there to be a change.
Often boredom has been building up for some time and you really have no clue how to get out of the rut so get some inspiration from social media using some hashtags and see if anything looks interesting and head on into the salon.
For hairdressers, it’s not about cutting it off, it’s about working out that image you have in your mind and delivering it, so lots of questions are needed to make sure we know we understood what’s going on inside your head.
Yep it’s getting hotter everyday and it’s only a matter of time before temperatures reach 40+ daily for the next 4-5 months!
Is your hair ready to get through this?
Most likely it’s not let’s be honest, it’s like knowing your off on holidays and you need to pack, you know you do forcwwwks in advance but end up shoving crap into your bag moments before heading to the airport. So what can you do to get your hair ready?
Think trim every 6 weeks, let’s start now.
Linseed treatments by Alfa Parf, yes they work, every 6-8 weeks to rehydrate the hair. It’s not a fluffy head massage like the hair spa your used too but it actually works so totally worth it.
Plan colors in advance so your not overdoing it.
Get your irons out, if they are more than 12 months old time to invest in new ones ( technology changes fast and improvements have been made every few months )
Ever seen some pants, dress or top that you love and thought you just had to have it and been too lazy to try it on before you buy it?
Just like your hair, a cut or color is not just a cut and color there is a huge difference between good bad and just plain wrong! If your blessed enough not to have experienced hideous congratulations, but if you have then maybe you understand that it’s not a product but a service. To get it right takes skill, understanding of what your after and a realistic approach ( sometimes it’s just not possible on certain hair ). So before you get sucked into people selling a haircut like it’s a litre of milk check first because the difference between that pair of pants that is giving you a wedgie and a bad haircut, you can return the pants!
If your a mechanic and your fixing the Maruti Suzuki 800 you would kind of expect the mechanic to have the odd spanner or tools in his pockets or kit right?
It’s hardly acceptable if you go to the salon and the brush that’s going in your hair is sitting in the hairdressers back pocket just beside his butt is it?
Now whilst this photo was set up its sadly a reality in most salons in India, seems like the more things hanging out of pockets and clipped on your clothes the more important you are? Now I don’t know about you, but we think this is not only disgusting but also kind of looks stupid and unprofessional besides it’s dirty AF.
There is always a reason for everything we do, sure at times our explanation may be different but it usually gets our point across.
When you have the right tools or products but don’t know the exact way to use them things can go very wrong, maybe not as wrong as the image above ( who read use small amount to make anything spicy 🌶 hot )
When we talk about hair care it’s always as much about how to use it rather than just selling it because if you don’t use it the right way, you won’t like it and won’t see the benefit so it’s useless. It’s all about knowing how, when, where and how much. A great hairstylist will explain all of this to you and should be reducing the amount of things your using to get the desired result rather than filling up your bathroom full of things you will never use.
So we get asked a lot about how to grow healthier hair and even though we know the science on how too, we thought it a good idea to share some basics on our bodies and how hair is grown ( and it’s not like growing basil 🌿 or tomatoes 🍅)
What you need to have healthy hair
A balanced diet, yes your body requires a combination of all food groups to function to the. Best it can be.
The idea of eating crap, not sleeping properly, not drinking enough water and thinking you can use certain products to fix what’s happening internally doesn’t work.
Regular trims, yes every 6/8 weeks regardless of what length you have.
Good products, that are for your hair right now, not the same products you have been using since 1987 because you mum bought them.
Sulfate & parabin free shampoo as it contains less chemicals which strip the scalp and can dry it out.
Don’t over process your hair just because it’s on sale, you can’t stock up on your hair color. Only do things that are needed, don’t over do it.
Hair spa and oil massages are not going to fix much if not anything at all. If that’s your go too then you need to come see us to explain what oil does on your scalp and hair
Hair growth can not be altered, hair growth and the speed comes from within and is almost the same for everyone on planet earth.
So much information on how many times a week you should wash your hair, what’s the perfect amount, will it cause your hair to fall out and the list goes on!
We reccomend washing your hair daily once with a sulfate free shampoo ( we reccomend Alfa Parf ) now if your washing it every second or third day then doubling up and washing twice is needed to make sure that all the natural sebum and pollution is removed. Would you wash your face every second or third day because you don’t want to reapply make up? I’m guessing not!
Will washing it twice cause hair loss, no it won’t!
Always use a conditioner and always comb it through when the conditioner is in from ends to roots then rinse.
So yes double shampooing is possibly what will make your hair actually shine!
We are writing this, because everyone who knows hair will tell you it’s wrong, every ones who thinks they know hair will tell you it’s great!
Coconut oil is an oil, oil and water don’t mix right? Right
Hair is dead keratin? Right
If hair is dead and growing hair is inside our body, oil doesn’t soak in does it? No it doesn’t
The hair is made up of three layers? True
Oil residue is left every time you apply oil in the cuticle layer even if you wash it several times? Correct
Putting oil on your hair will make it shinny? True
Putting oil on your hair will
Dehydrate the internal structure
Coat the hair and cause internal moisture to evaporate
Make your hair feel like concrete
Leave your hair limp
Possibly cause hair loss due to change of ph level of your scalp
All the above are facts! So before putting any oil on your hair or head think twice if you want healthy hair. If it’s a condition problem then use alternatives like linseed treatment by Alfa Parf or if your hair is that damaged Olaplex.
When your building brand be it a person or a business the reputation or what the brand stands for is what the value is. It’s one thing to open a business it’s a completely other thing to build a brand. We see some businesses open and close, some doing a little this and that and not really standing for anything just a little of everything. To be sustainable in life we have to evolve and stand for something and have a firm understanding of what that is, it’s no use saying it but not actually believing it, we humans are far smarter than that it has to be authentic as well as understood. It’s like owning a service manual for a car, it doesn’t mean you know how to fix it or even understand how or why it works.
What we believe in is sustainable and to be the best daily in what we do both for the brand, the clients and for the future.
This post was originally posted on rod-anker.com 2 years ago so yes you have heard it before 😜
Education for everything is not about finishing school and boom you know it all, you finish school then it’s starts and you never ever finish!
Hairdressing is a continuos journey of education, new techniques, new products, improving yourself and the way you deliver.
“When your green your growing when your ripe your rotten”
In other words when you think you know everything, is when you should stop because your dead! After 30 years doing what I do I don’t claim to know everything in fact I don’t. Hairdressers around the world spend a small fortune as do salon owners on building the skills, often traveling to all corners of the world to get it.
Success doesn’t come from doing something once, then keep changing it, it comes from doing one thing over and over and improving it each time you do it. Hairdressing is an art that a lifetime of training would never be enough, when you get that success will follow.
When it comes to us as humans it’s exactly the same. Day in day out improving and evolving to be a better person. Imagine if we still acted like we did when we were 14!? I guess there would be a lot of so called adults acting like spoilt brats screaming in bed till 2pm until they got their way!
Go out, get up and make it happen. It’s not a destination it’s a journey!!
We have all had those dreams ( well I keep telling myself it’s we not me 😳) you have the perfect clear AF dream, so fresh so vivid it’s scary. You wake up in a cold sweat in complete darkness only to realize it was just a dream.
The following morning you wake up feeling dirty, did you really just have your hair cut in your dream? You check in the mirror and nope it’s still there.
But maybe your dream hair is just a phone call away?!
Picture this you have grown your hair for the last decade and you have decided to get a change!
You stroll into your salon and blurt out ” I want a change, don’t cut the length, I don’t want color, I like the curl, I don’t have much time and only have 200 rupees” !
Now stop, re read the above and ask yourself if that is more of a scene from a comedy show or likely to happen?
It’s one thing to have a wish list, it’s another to be in denial, some things are just not realistic or even possible. You don’t have to spend a fortune on your hair, in fact often less than what you expect!
Btw this is what ” I want three layers looks like”!
Get onto Pinterest or Instagram and get some inspiration and done in and have a discussion and let’s create a realistic plan.
So this guy can’t sing let’s just get that straight and this is not a photo of him dancing ( no one wants to see that we assure you )!
We do a lot of training for the industry here throughout India, with people who want to learn, who are passionate about growth. Earlier this week Rod was in Bangalore with “Alan Truman” brand showcasing various new irons and equipment which we use and love. The pencil stick iron creates spiral type curls instantly which last until it’s washed out, simple to use and styling options are endless. This is a game changer in terms of creating texture and form that has been missing in the market he screamed on stage ( again he thinks he is some kind of rockstar )
If your bored with styling and want something new check out Alan Truman products not just the pencil stick but the Argan oil coated tapered tongs to create beach curls are bang on!
So there is several ways to get a little color in your hair, you can choose to spend hours getting it done, or you can go to a Holi party and have it totally destroyed in seconds looking like a Unicorn on ice!
It’s ok it’s a natural color and washes out, it will do no harm? Seriously that is so far fetched it’s not funny, it stains and on blonde hair will be almost impossible to get it out, it stains better than any color be it paint or lipstick once it’s there good luck getting it out!!
Can you put anything on it to prevent it from staining your perfect blonde…. easiest answer is NO, you can soak it in oil, mask, a styling paste, gel etc etc but I assure you it will still find a way to get through and ruin your hair. You can wear a scarf but when water is added and coloured powder meet then it will go through all material so the easiest suggestion is avoid the random throwing of coloured powder if you love your color, if you don’t mind looking like a unicorn 🦄 for a while then go for it!
Best to get a pre Holi treatment like Alfa Parf linseed treatment which will close the cuticle tightly which will help reduce color absorbing.
Rather than talking about 101 ways to cover it up on woman’s day, we know real woman should be able to do whatever the hell they like so considering we don’t do waxing we decided to put together some fresh looks for you in case you didn’t have a plan.
Something there for everyone, if in doubt grow it out!
Embrace a woman’s right to do whatever she wants to do, wear whatever she wants to wear and do her hair however she wants too! That’s respect!
Get it done it’s on special they said. It will make your hair easy to manage they said. No more curly hair they said. It will make your hair look healthy they said. Well guess what, there is a downside!
You’ve decided to grown out your rebounded hair because well basically it ruined the condition ( no surprise there! ) and now it looks like bollocks, what to do?
Yes we can sit here and laugh and tell you we told you, which would be funny but not so helpful so here are your options.
Cut it short to remove 3/4 of the straight bonded ends. This will help but still be a bit annoying.
Keratin the roots to blend it a little. Not ideal but visually a little better.
Blow dry the roots straight until you have enough length to cut the ends off.
No one said it would be easy. Careful with something that sounds too good to be true. Rebonding and straightening in our opinion are possible the worst thing to do to hair!
Fashion week is doing the rounds globally with every designer on the planet each season trying to reinvent and evolve. Hair is exactly the same and it has its season to shine and then it’s done.
So what’s new in hair I hear you asking? It’s kind of a loaded question as it is largely dependant on you, your hair and your comfort zone. Just because g-string bathers are in doesn’t mean it’s for everyone right?
What’s trending in hair
Balliage is still current but make sure it’s done seamlessly. Goal is a smooth transition of color and little to no lines.
Solid colors or blocking is in, no not black that doesn’t count unless its clothes then always choose black!
Natural curl is big and has been for a while, we love it. Careful not to over do color or let anyone do keratin treatments plus color, this type of hair can not take such abuse it’s the #101 of curly hair.
Bangs are big, the bigger the better, oversized, micro or bold.
Beach waves or surf inspired waves are hot
Straight hair but not rebounded, this is so out!
So in short ( pardon the pun ) natural looking hair is big again and overdone is just not cool. Get yourself in and have a chat and see what changes we can do, big or small it makes a big difference in the end.
Well this is not really a secret but some people tend not to understand just like some people think all Indian food is the same, there is a huge difference. Let’s look at them.
This is typically your local place that does everything from waxing you on the chair while your hair is getting blow dried to send someone down the road to pick up your shopping once you arrive 20 min late and is a very casual setting typically a small space. Typically don’t do male clients.
Now whilst in most parts of the world this is a place you grab a drink especially if your in the Wild West lol. However in India this is again a place that will do everything and anything from bleech your brows, straighten your hair and wax your legs all at the same time, why… well it’s all about maximizing turnover I guess. Typical prices, more typical results sprinkled with a little this and that. Don’t specialize in anything just do a little of everything. Do make and female clients kids and will also pick up your lunch, shopping and walk you to the car to hand you the change because your nails are still wet. Don’t worry they too are all about max turnover and they will say good bye each visit shamelessly waiting for there tip. But you can relax in this type of space because they have a tv playing all the annoying shows you hate while the radio or old songs your grandmother listened too whilst your getting your not Instagram worthy hair done.
One “o” missing but is nothing like the above. Will do hair, possible mani pedi but it’s all about hair, no tv only good tunes and professional staff ( typically )they regularly get training, they want training, they understand hair better than most and they love what they do and don’t wait on check out for a tip, they don’t want it. It’s about the work. They do things different, they talk normally and are focused and driven to deliver the best hair you have ever had. No flying nails being clipped off someone’s feet beside you, no waxing being done on some aunties legs beside you and no uncle getting his mani pedi done while he is drinking chai, talking on the phone screaming at his help and eating his lunch all at the same time. Ask them to collect your shopping if they are free they may do it but it’s not there job!
Now I already hear you saying that some salons function like saloons, some salons do the same things as saloons, well they are in fact saloons then.
If your shopping for a place to get your hair done, be it under the local tree, a small room above the pizza shop or the professional space locally understand just like a fruit shop doesn’t sell meat, a tailor doesn’t do car repairs and a furniture seller doesn’t do medical procedures there is a huge difference between the 3. By the way all have a space in the market we just choose to be a salon and not a parlour or a saloon!
It can take 3 applications of lightening powder, several toners and a lot of patience! ( bring your battery charger! ) You can not predict time, cost or result 100% as it depends on your hair however even if on the day you strike gold, we would suggest 24 hour gaps and re apply until desired result is achieved. Once your have shared your target color we do the rest until we get it!
No your hair won’t fall out
No it’s not going to make you bald
It’s permanent and will grow out, it won’t wash out. The tone may change over time however it will still be light
It’s not cheap, varies from head to head depending on texture, length etc
Can you add pastel once your that light? Yesssss
Drop in and have a chat about what your dream color is and let’s see what is possible.
You decided a change is what you want but not sure what, how, why etc well possibly the biggest mistake is choosing from a style book!
It’s not like going to a Korean restaurant and choosing fro. The photos because nothing is in English ( although we all do that based on if we want to eat that’s the only way it’s going to happen ). Hair texture, density, movement and face shape is always I repeat always different from person to person.
A proper consultation, an in depth discussion about your hair, the history, what you love, what you hate, what your styling expectations are, what you want it to say and the list goes on!
Creating beautiful hair that you love is a collaboration between you and the hairstylist and rarely happens by choosing style 69.
If your salon visit starts with hello Madam trim? Then it’s time to experience a salon not a saloon.
So you’ve joined a cult, you need to fit in ( we get it, not our thing but ok ) you are told your hair has to be exactly the same as the other 452963 members, shoulder blade, black all the one length and braided pony tail.
But let’s just imagine for a moment your not in a bus 🚌 on the way to the private “farm” where you will all eat the same food, wear the same clothes and show the exact same personality. Wouldn’t it be nice to look & behave a little different or at the very least not have too?
What if you want to be brown, have some layers, maybe some bangs, maybe wear it out? Omg you could do so much it’s making us feel anxious, my head is going to explode, you could actually stand out.
In case you didn’t get on that bus pick up the phone and call us on 011-41010011
With everyone trying to sell everything on line there are some things that “online” will never be able to deliver.
Unless your ordering a wig of course!
Hair is a people’s business and it’s personality driven service based on skill and delivered through the culture of the salon. The reality is a lot of salons in India still think they by opening the doors employing whoever and not investing in training and Developement of the team that success will follow. This could not be further from reality.
If you think that a salon is a salon, drop in and tell us, we are fairly sure you will get it within 5 minutes.
Meanwhile please shop for all your other things on line god knows you need it but it’s always good therapy
We have all been there, gone shopping with ten bucks in your hand looking for ingredients for a gourmet meal in the discount aisle!
The reality is your going to get basics or the stuff people don’t won’t or never would and you will end up on the phone ordering take out and spending more than the tenner anyway.
Just like that it’s the same with hair, you think the brand of color is what makes it great? The skill in the hands and the understanding between you and the hairstylist determine if your service is done “on special ” or is Special. The reality is you get what you pay for. When are not the most expensive salon, we don’t claim to be the best although google helps convince us we know what we are doing it doesn’t go to our head. Often we get told it would have been cheaper to come get it done right the first time vs saving a tinny bit to start with, most of the time we end up suggesting to do less vs more.
Hair is not bread, it doesn’t go on sale always go to a professional salon.
So you listened to the hairstylist who said do this service, do that service. You went it weekly to get them to burnt it into place and you asked through the smoke each time, is my hair healthy?
Only to get a few months down the road to realize it was just about getting a sale and nothing to do with better hair at all!
The reality is this, of your hair is Brocken off, fried, burnt and falling out in your hands you can do only two things
Olaplex, which will help contain the breakage to some extent but certainly not fix it completely. Weekly Olaplex treatments will help but not fix fried hair!
Cut off the damage, the only real cure to remove split, Brocken or fried hair and that’s a fact!
Linseed treatments by Alfa Parf Milano help rehydrate the internal structure of the hair and if your colouring your hair we suggest a monthly treatment but not more than that it’s pointless.
Use a good shampoo and conditioner daily and a leave in serum and moisturiser and make sure the blow dry you get they are not burning your hair ( if the dryer is being pushed against the brush and sounds like it’s burning, most likely it is! )
So you have thought about it, possibly had one ( maybe the wrong one or a half hearted one ). Well now it’s getting warmer rather than have all this hair all over your face maybe it’s the perfect time to get banged up!
This circa 80’s “side flick” is not as cool as it sounds unless your with your friends at the kitty party, it looks old and as cool as guys who wear there hair in top knots ( you all know that’s a no no !)
Totally on point, be it a solid bangs to a short micro one the choice is yours just do it!
