It’s not a new request to get asked for DIY instructions, just like chefs get asked for the recipe it’s never going to be the same. Well for me anyway doesn’t help even with YouTube, maybe get you closer to getting the end result but there is always hidden issues.
After training for 4 years to become a qualified hairstylist you can never put that amount of info on the back of a box no matter how small the font.
There has been a mass exodus on overdone hair that’s high Maintainence and just plain too stiff. Good thing too, none us have the time and none of us want to see it anymore.
If your trying to make the transition it can be a little rough because no matter what anyone says you may feel as tho your hair looks a little messy. Here are some tips and tricks to try. Hope it helps
1. Use a leave in serum when the hair is wet, closes the cuticle and reduces frizz ( check out Alfa Parf Cristali liquid )
2. Don’t blowdry, pat dry only and don’t be tempted to comb or brush once your out of the shower.
3. Until you get used to the look products are your best friend, it’s all about texture & control. Have a few in the bathroom like a leave in conditioner, sea salt spray and a paste or light creme styler.
Once the hair is dry a few pumps of sea salt at the roots will add movement and texture. If it’s getting a little fly away or frizzy try a light creme on the ends or a few pumps of leave in conditioner will sort that out fairly fast.
Now just because you want it to look like you haven’t done it, don’t think you don’t have to do anything! In fact you still need to be visiting the salon every 6-8 weeks it’s important to maintain the foundation and condition of your hair.
Your hungry and don’t really care about what your eating because your about 35 seconds from eating your arm then you pick up the phone and order the fastest thing. It’s ok we have all done it, certainly not the best thing for you if your planning on it being a daily activity but once in a blue moon is fine I say!
Now when it comes to your hair a lot of you ( yes a lot! ) choose your hair salon based on the best deal, coupon or promotion. Now whilst I know and it’s true for all of us that there is a budget for us all for most things. We need to understand the difference and the actual cost of a bad or under researched decision.
1. A good haircut should last your 6-8 weeks, should sit in shape and be manageable for most of this time.
2. A lot of people I talk to say they get a color every 2-3 weeks and hate being tied to the salon. I would say 5 weeks is ideal anything before that your color is either A. High fashion color B. Wrong choice of color.
Either way your spending too much and wasting too much time, re asses the look vs time you are happy to spend in the salon.
3. This is the most sensitive one which very few will admit. Most salons have a treatment or several treatments ( or maybe you understand if I say ” hairspa” ) that do very little to improving hair condition but are a great money earner. Yes it’s true a LOT are just as basic as a conditioner! A waste of time and money.
4. You will be told to go for this or that, your hair needs it etc etc and whilst sometimes it’s true a lot of the time it’s not. Some salons will try to convince you to do services that lock you into visiting more regularly just to squeeze a little out of you more often which means your spend is higher.
Now don’t get me wrong I’m not throwing stones I’m simply trying to explain that buying anything on price isn’t always cheaper. Besides all of the above there is obvious other factors to take into account.
Next time your out shopping on price maybe Google quality then drop into the salons shortlisted and have an honest conversation about what you can afford and what look your after.
Yeah well not really the same but if your stuck in the rat race this summer and can’t get away you really should try to at least give your eyes something fresh to look at. If your a length freak and don’t want to change the the length or shape then it’s time you added color to the equation.
Having color in your hair is not to cover grey, it’s to add attitude! Think of almost any look and even if it’s a solid color the overall look changes everything when you add color, can take a boring cut to a over the top in your face look just with the color. If you need to cover grey then you can do it and look more natural than natural hair by adding various shades and tones of the same color which will give you that multi dimensional look, for those who don’t want to turn heads but stoop looking for attention.
Give us a call or drop in and have a chat about what color could do for you.
Its no surprise that we all are dying in the heat and perspiration is a fact of life, even a short walk to the car can make you wetter than a night out at the strip club!
To make sure your scalp is not wet all day and becoming a bacteria farm you need to make sure your using the right products and in the right way to keep your scalp healthy, healthy scalp means healthy hair growth! Your hair once it is visible is dead keratin, the growth is internal, under your scalp and the only really obvious way you can help your growth is making sure your intake is a healthy balance covering all of your dietary needs. Sure its boring to say a balanced diet and a good amount of sleep and your body will function the way it was designed.
We get asked a lot about hair growth, how to grow your hair faster, thicker, healthier etc etc its really the basics you need to get right in order to have the best hair possible. We have put together a checklist to make it a little easier in the hope that next time you come in we can chat about more random things but if you still need help give us a shout!
What shampoo should I use?
Your shampoo should be decided on what your hair, scalp is doing at that particular time. If its the peak of summer you don’t have colour then its fairly possible you need a good cleansing shampoo, if you do have color then the conditioner should be chosen for the color.
Will washing my hair everyday make my hair fall out?
This is not at all true, in fact not washing your hair enough will have more adverse effect on your hair growth than washing it too often. Good quality products is the key and that doesn’t mean you choose the product that you saw on the side of a bus, it means a little research. Of course we will tell you our products are the best like every salon because if they didn’t believe in what they are selling then there is a real problem. We use Label M and Alfa Parf, both internationally known and respected products, we use and recommend those because we truly believe they are the best, its not about pushing, its about having the right products and tools to make sure your hair looks the way it was intended long after you leave the salon.
Conditioner makes my hair fall out!
Conditioner closes the cuticle layer of your hair, sealing in the moisture and making sure it is smooth and tangles free leaving the hair with shine and looking healthy. When you put conditioner in your hair, actually put it in your hair on the ends and work it upwards towards the scalp, using a wide tooth comb starting at the ends comb it through. When your doing this, the hair will become slippery and you will get some loose hairs coming out ( because now its slippery and loose hair that was already out was previously stuck within the other hair ) This is not hair fall this is normal. Having 150-200 approx a day come out is in the space of “normal” sure it can fluctuate and will increase slightly in summer months as we tend to shed a little more hair but overall this is considered normal.
Conditioner makes my hair flat
Conditioner is for the hair, typically the ends so if your using it properly then chances are you using the wrong one! Every time you shampoo, you must condition your hair, if you open the cuticle you must close it!
Serum makes my scalp oily
Wow, yes i hear this one often, hello serum is for your hair not your scalp! Serum on your ends not the scalp
Hair Care 101
A quick tip to help keep the frizz in check is when you have the conditioner on in the shower, using a wide tooth comb starting at the bottom comb the hair through and get rid of all the tangles. With the conditioner in it acts as a lubricant and reduces tearing of the hair. Don’t brush your hair when its dry unless your a cartoon character called Rapunzel as it damages your hair!
Just because a hair care product company saturates the media does NOT mean it is the best! Do your research
